Henry Cavill Looks Hot In Two New Man Of Steel Posters

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

man-of-steel-promo-pic1
Over the weekend, two new posters and a rather iconic image of Henry Cavill in Man Of Steel have been released. Indeed, it’s quite interesting that while early marketing concentrated on how different the film is to earlier takes on Superman, more recently they’ve been making it looking far more classic.

There’s also a new poster for Pacific Rim, showing off New Zealand’s jaeger (giant robot), Kaiju Crush. While it looks like it’s destroying a city, we presume Crush is actually helping to protect it from a monster that’s crawled out of the Pacific.

Man Of Steel hits cinemas June 14th, with Pacific Rim coming July 12th. Click on the pics below for larger versions.

Samuel L. Jackson To Play The US President In Big Game

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

samuel-l-jacksonThere are a lot of people out there who’d love Samuel L. Jackson to be the US President. Now they’ll get to see that come true, on-screen at least, as Variety reports that Jackson has signed up to be the Pres in the thriller, Big Game.

Finnish Rare Exports director Jalmari Helander will make his English-language debut with the movie, which ‘tells the story of Oskari, a shy, nervous 13-year-old boy, who must prove his manhood by spending a day and a night alone in the forest. That night, Air Force One is shot down by terrorists and Oskari discovers the US President in an escape pod. With the terrorists closing in, Oskari and the President must team up to survive.’

Altitude, the company behind the movie, describes it as an “adrenaline-fuelled action adventure that takes the universal rite-of-passage theme of iconic 80s films, such as ‘E.T.’ and ‘The Karate Kid,’ and brilliantly combines this with the visceral thrill of high-concept action classics such as ‘Die Hard’ and ‘Taken.’”

That’s quite a mix of movies, and I’d be willing to bet it’s not really like any of those film.

Filming will start this summer in Finland and Germany.

Ansel Elgort Joins Shailene Woodley In The Fault in Our Stars

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ansel-elgortAfter beating out the likes of Brenton Thwaites, Nat Wolff, Nick Robinson and Noah Silver for the role, Ansel Elgort has been chosen for the male lead in The Fault in Our Stars, according to Variety.

The movie will reteam Elgort with his Divergent co-star Shailene Woodley. Elgort will play Augustus ‘Gus’ Waters, a former basketball player who lost his leg to cancer and meets Woodley’s character in a cancer support group. The two unsurprisingly begin to fall for one another.

Josh Boone is on board to direct the adaptation based on John Green’s book, which shoots later this year.

Owen Wilson On For Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

owen-wilsonPaul Thomas Anderson is hoping to start shooting Inherent Vice later this month, but at the moment he only has Benicio Del Toro and Joaquin Phoenix signed up to star. He’s busy trying to find others to join his film, and now TheWrap reports he may be joined by Owen Wilson.

Based on a novel by Thomas Pynchon, the film takes place in Los Angeles in 1970. The story follows pothead private investigator Doc Sportello (Phoenix), who begins investigating the disappearance of a young girl. Benicio Del Toro is set to play the P.I.’s attorney. It isn’t known what role Owen Wilson’s role is in talks for.

Paul Thomas Anderson is directing from a script he penned. It’s not clear when it might be released.

First Look At Paul Giamatti As Rhino In The Amazing Spider-Man 2

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-paul-giamiatti
Director Marc Webb has been trying to keep us up to date with what’s been happening on the Amazing Spider-man 2, and his latest tweeted treat is the first image of Paul Giamatti as The Rhino in the movie.

The pic sees Giamatti driving a tow-truck the size of a semi in the midst of a police chase.

He doesn’t look particularly Rhino-like, but he does have some pretty scary tattoos. Perhaps he’ll get more Rhino-like as the movie progresses, in the same way Jamie Foxx Electro starts out normal but turns blue.

The movie’s out summer 2014.

Gatsby Is Great But Can’t Beat Iron Man 3 At The US Box Office

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

great-gatsby-poster2There’s been a fair amount of uncertainty about how well The Great Gatsby would do, with some wondering whether there was room for it in the usually action-heavy summer release schedule. However it’s done far better than many expected, taking $51 million in its first weekend at the US box office.

It’s particularly good news for Baz Luhrman, as his previous highest grossing movie in North America was Moulin Rouge!, which took $57 million. The Great Gatsby should pass that in the next couple of days.

Even with Gatsby’s great start, it couldn’t beat Iron Man 3, which took $72.5 million in it second weekend.

The only other new entry in the top 10 was Tyler Perry Presents Peeples, which took $4.3 million. It’s one of the worst starts of the year for a film opening on more that 2,000 screens.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of May 10th-12th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Iron Man 3 $72.4 $284,8
2 The Great Gatsby $51.1 $51.1
3 Pain And Gain $5.0 $41.6
4 Tyler Perry Presents Peeples $4.8 $4.8
5 42 $4.6 $84.7
6 Oblivion $3.8 $81.6
7 The Croods $3.6 $173.2
8 The Big Wedding $2.5 $18.2
9 Mud $2.3 $8.3
10 Oz the Great And Powerful $0.8 $229.9

Gay TV Channel Here TV Goes International With A Paid Youtube Channel

May 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Here-TV-logoOne the things countries such as the UK are severely lacking, is a TV channel for gay people (well, there are gay chat/dating channels and porn, but they don’t really count). The US has been greedy and has got two, the loosely LGBT-centred (but getting less gay) Logo and the more homo-dedicated Here TV.

However now Youtube has announced they’re launching new paid channels, which people can access for a small monthly fee. One of those channels comes from Here TV, and the great news is that it won’t just be available to the US, as content will also be accessible in Canada, Great Britain, Spain, France, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and Brazil.

To subscribe users must sign into a YouTube account on a computer and have a Google Wallet account. Here TV’s channel will then be available for viewing on computers, phones, tablets and TV.

Here TV has promised that titles available on the channel include fan favourites Dante’s Cove and The Lair; the Emmy Award-nominated documentary 30 Years From Here; She’s Living for This, starring drag sensation Sherry Vine; political talk show For & Against, hosted by Jim Morrison; dating and sex advice show Threesome; the marriage equality special Pride & Groom; the network special The Dinah Girls; and many more.

“We are very excited to launch our YouTube paid channel to bring our expansive, original, LGBT programming to a new global viewing platform. With a reach of more than one billion potential customers, Here TV continues to explore and embrace the latest innovations in program distribution to best serve our diverse audience,” says John Mongiardo, Here TV’s Senior Vice President of Programming Operations.

The New Normal Gets Cancelled, But Sean Hayes’ New LGBT-Themed Sitcom Is Picked Up

May 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-new-normal-pic2It’s pretty bad news for gay characters on US TV, as the network axe is falling as they prepare to announce the shows for next season, and LGBT characters aren’t doing well. As THR reports, Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal, about a gay couple and the mother of their surrogate child, has been cancelled. It joins the Michael Urie and David Krumholtz starring Partners, 2012’s other predominantly gay-themed show, which was cancelled earlier in the season.

Smash, which featured four LGBT characters in major role, is ending after two season, while other LGBT friendly shows such as Go On, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23 (created by the openly gay Nahnatchka Khan), Malibu Country, 90210, Emily Owens M.D., The Office, L.A. Complex, Happy Endings and Southland are also coming to an end.

Just a few months ago, GLAAD reported that there were more gay characters on American television than ever before, but that’s unlikely to be true now, as while the likes of Glee and Grey’s Anatomy continue, many others gay-friendly shows have been cancelled.

There is one bright spot though, as Sean Saves The World, starring Sean Hayes as an gay dad raising a child as a single father, has been picked up to air this autumn. We also don’t know yet how many gay characters will be featured in the slew of other new shows that the networks are lining up, although it’s difficult to imagine there’ll be as many as there were when last season began.
