Keira Knightley Replaces Anne Hathaway In Dark Comedy Laggies

May 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Keira-KnightleyKeira Knightley may have just gotten married, but she isn’t having a break from booking new movie roles, as she’s in talks for the dark comedy Laggies, according to EW. Back in March Anne Hathaway was in talks to star, but she was recently forced to back out due to scheduling conflicts with Interstellar, which she joined last month.

Laggies is about a young woman (Knightley) who has an averse reaction to her boyfriend’s (Mark Webber) surprise proposal. She shies away from answering him by pretending to go on a business trip, while she is actually just hanging out with her younger sister (Chloe Moretz). Sam Rockwell also stars.

Lynn Shelton is directing from a screenplay by Andrea Siegel. It isn’t clear when it’ll shoot, but it’ll presumably be fairly soon if Hathaway couldn’t do this and Interstellar.

Matt Damon & Michael Douglas Get Glam In The Making Of Behind The Candelabra Featurette

May 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Behind The Candelabra, Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, arrives on HBO in the US at the end of May, with cinema releases shortly afterwards in other parts of the world (it comes to the UK on June 7th).

HBO has now started airing a ‘making of…’ documentary, which has popped up online, and you can watch it above.

The film details Liberace’s (Douglas) relationship with his younger lover, Scotty Thorson (Damon), which saw Liberace publicly saying he was straight, while having his toyboy at home. Things went sour when they broke up and Scott sued the glamorous pianist for alimony.

Turtle Hill, Brooklyn Trailer – A gay couple find out unexpected truths

May 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Turtle Hill, Brooklyn opened at New York’s Quad Cinema on Friday, so we thought it was a good excuse to take a look at the trailer for the movie.

In the movie, gay couple Mateo and Will invite their friends over for Will’s 30th birthday. After a few surprise visitors, they get through the day, but realize that doubting your partner isn’t nearly as scary as doubting yourself.

Director Ryan Gielen told Queerty, “[It’s] the story of a loving relationship challenged by cheating, and everyone can relate to that, but it’s rarely portrayed honestly in film. We want gay audiences to see themselves on screen, the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful.” [Read more…]

New Man Of Steel Banner Arrives With Henry Cavill Looking Wistful

May 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

man-of-steel-bannerIt’s getting to the point now where I don’t care whether Man Of Steel is a silent movie, as long as it has Henry Cavill running around for two hours looking hot. However I still have hope that it’ll actually be a good movie in its own right when it arrives in cinemas on June 14th.

The latest things to help get us excited/swooning, is a banner poster, which you can see above. It features Cavill as Superman, floating above the Earth and looking a little moody.

Zack Snyder directs the movie.

The Wolverine Silver Samurai Poster Debuts

May 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wolverine-silver-samurai-posterDirector James Mangold has tweeted out our first look at The Wolverine’s Silver Samurai, in the form of the inked poster above. The character, played by Will Yun Lee, will be causing problem for Hugh Jackman’s Logan when the film opens this July.

According to the official Marvel history of the character, ‘Keniuchio Harada is the mutant son of the former Japanese crimelord Shingen Harada. As a youth, Harada mastered the attendant disciplines of the medieval samurai and sought employment as a warrior for hire. He first worked for the criminal Mandrill and clashed with the blind hero Daredevil. Harada then served the Viper, an agent of the terrorist organization Hydra, as her bodyguard. In that capacity, Harada battled opponents such as the costumed crimefighter Spider-Man, the martial arts master Shang-Chi, and the team of mutant trainee heroes the New Mutants.

‘Following his father’s death, Harada sought the leadership of Shingen’s Clan Yashida from his half-sister Mariko Yashida, but was opposed by the ronin Yukio and Mariko’s lover, the mutant adventurer Wolverine. Later, Harada worked with Wolverine to free American private investigator Jessica Drew from the influence of Black Blade of Muramasa, a sword mystically imbued with its creator’s madness. Wolverine himself fell under the sword’s spell, but managed to overcome his possession after which Harada took up the sword, finding himself worthy of its power.’

Luke Evans Takes On The Crow Remake

May 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Luke Evans

Luke Evans

When the idea of remaking The Crow was first mooted, US actors such as Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, and Channing Tatum were attached, but in the last few months it’s seemed director F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before The Fall) has been keen to find a Brit to take on the role of Eric Draven.

In the last few month, James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston have been rumoured for the role, but now Deadline reports that Luke Evans is in talks for the part. He’ll play rock star Eric Draven, who comes back to life to seek vengeance against those who murdered him.

Brandon Lee starred in director Alex Proyas’ 1994 original film The Crow, based on James O’Barr’s comic book series. It isn’t known when production will begin, but it may not be until early next year.

Iron Man 3 Has The Second Best US Box Office Opening Ever

May 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Iron-Man-3-Fan-Edition-posterThe money men at Disney/Marvel will be rubbing their hands in glee this morning, as if they were worried about the hundreds of millions they’ve already poured into the post-Avengers movies, Iron Man 3 has resolutely proved audiences are keen to continue watching the superhero adventures.

While Iron Man 3 couldn’t beat The Avengers $204 million US opening, it still managed the second biggest first weekend ever at the US box office with $175 million. That’s massively ahead of Iron Man 2’s $128 million. Add in an non-US total that’s already topped $500 million, and the film is well on its way to a billion dollar worldwide gross.

Iron Man 3 was the only brand new movie in the top 10, although the Matthew McConaughey starrer Mud did make its first entry, jumping from number 11 to number 7 thanks to an increased screen count.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of May 3rd-5th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Iron Man 3 $175.3 $175.3
2 Pain And Gain $7.6 $33.9

Zachary Quinto Says He’s ‘Only Worked More’ Since Coming Out

May 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Zachary QuintoThe traditional reason for young actors not to come out, particularly in the US, is the fear that jobs will suddenly dry up, but while doing the publicity rounds for Star Trek Into Darkness, Zachary Quinto says that certainly hasn’t happened to him.

Talking to Jonathan Ross on his UK chat show, Quinto said, “I haven’t stopped working, I’ve only worked more since I came out.”

Quinto also talked about his decision to come out after a spate of LGBT teen suicides in the US. “I just felt,” he says, “Like it was a convergence for me where I was in a position, and am in a position, for young people to look at the experience that I’ve had, to look at the opportunities that have been presented to me and to recognise in themselves that there is no limitation and that we live in a time where the tide is changing. For me I felt like it was the right time and the right way.”

As for whether others in the business have a problem with his sexuality, he says, “If people don’t want to work with me because of my sexual orientation, then I have no interest in working with them to begin with. It doesn’t really put me in a position where I feel like I’m limited.”

Hopefully he’ll have continued success and show other actors that being gay isn’t an impediment to having a successful career. (Quotes via PinkNews)
