Matt Damon, Peter Stormare & Sanjeev Bhaskar Up For Gilliam’s Zero Theorem

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Terry Gilliam is about to start shooting the very intriguing Zero Theorem, and he’s busy rounding out the cast, as it’s been revealed that Matt Damon is taking a small role in the movie, while Peter Stormare and Sanjeev Bhaskar have also signed up. Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton and Melanie Thierry are already set to star.

Vulture got the news on Damon, after they bumped into him at the premiere of Argo. He told them, ‘I’m just doing a very small part in [The Zero Theorem]. Someone finally gave him money to do this one, thank God. It’s with Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton. I’d do anything for Terry. It’s been ten years since I last worked with him [in The Brothers Grimm]. I wrote Terry this whole e-mail, because we had this whole conversation about what the character would look like, because the story takes place in the future, but he had a specific look that he wanted, but then I had to [points to shaved head, which he has for Elysium], and I said, “Terry, what should we do?” And he said, “Actually, we can take advantage of the fact that your head is shaved. Why don’t we change your hairline?” So he mocked up a picture and sent me a real receding hairline, with white spiked hair. “We might as well take advantage of the fact that you’re bald and really do something, present you in a way you’ve never been seen before.”’

We don’t know too much about Peter Stormare and Sanjeev Bhaskar’s characters either, although announcing the casting on Facebook, Gilliam said “Excitement at the front! Zero Theorem now has two more brilliant actors on board: Peter Stormare and Sanjeev Bhaskar. Not just comic geniuses but great friends. They will be sharing two parts at the same time. I hope you like the look.” Quite what that means isn’t clear.

The movie is about a scientist (Waltz) working on a theorem to determine the reason for human existence, who gets numerous visitors, some of whom may be deliberately trying to delay his work.

Julianne Moore & Scoot McNairy Go Non-Stop

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Scoot McNairy have signed on to star alongside the previously cast Liam Neeson and Nate Parker in director Jaume Collet-Serra’s upcoming movie Non-Stop, according to Variety.

Neeson is set to play as an air marshall who receives text messages from someone who claims to be on his flight and is threatening to kill passengers on board. Parker will play a passenger who helps the air marshall identify the threat. Unfortunately no character details have been given for Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Scoot McNairy’s characters, although presumably they’ll be on the flight too.

Jaume Collet-Serra is directing from a screenplay by Christopher Roach and John W. Richardson. Production begins November 1 in NYC.

Michelle Williams Checks Into Suite Francaise

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michelle Williams has a knack for picking interesting projects, which may not be fodder for massive blockbuster success, but which make for worthwhile films. She’s continuing that pattern as Variety reports she is in talks to star in the wartime drama Suite Francaise for filmmaker Saul Dibb (The Duchess).

If a deal is reached, the Oscar-nominated actress will portray Lucille Angellier, a young woman in Nazi-occupied France who falls for a young German soldier while her husband is off fighting the war. Her only escape is playing the piano, which piques the interest of the soldier who was a composer before the war.

The film is based on Irene Nemirovsky’s novel, which she wrote (but never completed) during World War II, shortly before she was arrested and taken to a concentration camp, where she died. The novel was finally published in 2004 and praised for its firsthand look at the ever-changing situation for French people as the Nazis took over.

Saul Dibb will direct from his own screenplay. Prodcution is scheduled to begin next spring in London.

Danny DeVito To Direct Honeymoon with Dad

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Danny DeVito’s been having a few marital problems recently, splitting from longtime wife Rhea Perlman, but he not letting that put him off work, as Variety reports he’ll step behind the camera to helm Honeymoon With Dad.

The story is about an accountant who gets left at the alter. He is then forced to spend what would have been his honeymoon with his estranged father. It isn’t known if Danny DeVito plans on starring in the indie movie as well.

Scott Atkinson and Tegan West wrote the screenplay, with Michael Schreiber, Peter Abrams, Cary Granat, and Jared Mass producing. Production is expected to begin sometime next year, after Danny DeVito wraps on the current season of FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Eyes Shailene Woodley As Mary Jane

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Amazing Spider-man decided to go with Gwen Stacy as Peter Parker’s love interest, eschewing Mary Jane Watson, who’s always been Spidey’s main squeeze in the popular imagination. However it appears Mary Jane will make an appearance in The Amazing Spider-man 2, as Variety reports The Descendants star Shailene Woodley is in early talks to take the role.

Sony is also seeking an actor to play Harry Osborn, Peter’s best friend who was portrayed by James Franco in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. It is also rumoured that the studio is looking for someone to play Electro, a villain who gains the ability to control electricity after he is struck by lightning. The villain’s involvement has not been confirmed yet.

Marc Webb is directing the sequel from a screenplay by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Jeff Pinkner, based on an early draft by James Vanderbilt. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2013.

American Assassin Offers Chris Hemsworth A $10 Million Payday

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

CBS Films is very keen to get Thor star Chris Hemsworth to star in their adaptation American Assassin, as they’ve offered him a whopping $10 million to take the gig, according to Deadline. It isn’t known if the actor plans on accepting the offer at this time.

The action-thriller is based on Vince Flynn’s novel, which is about Mitch Rapp (the role Chris Hemsworth is being eyed for). The story follows his transition from a college athlete to a world-class operative for the CIA, who specialises in hunting terrorists, joining the agency after his girlfriend died in a terrorist attack. The book is actually the 11th in Vince Flynn’s series, although this is a prequel that will serve as Rapp’s origin story.

Last month Bruce Willis started talks to play Rapp’s CIA mentor, but it’s not clear if he’s signed on yet. Jeffrey Nachmanoff is directing from a screenplay by Mike Finch, who took over the writing duties from EdZwick and Marshall Herskovitz.

It isn’t known when production will begin, but there may be some scheduling problems if Chris Hemsworth does sign on. He is currently shooting Thor: The Dark World, and is expected to move right from that to Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse. There is also The Avengers 2 looming in the distance.

Paramount Signs A Deal For A UK Theme Park

October 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Disney and Universal have spread their theme park around the world, Britain has never been able to nab one, but now a British developers has signed a licensing deal with Paramount Pictures to develop a £2 billion theme park just outside outside of London, on the Swanscombe penisula in Kent. It plans to have it open in 2018.

Plans are at an early stage, but the deal means London Resort Co. Holdings will be able to develop attractions based on franchises such as Mission: Impossible, Star Trek and Paranormal Activity (although not Transformers, as Hasbro has the rights for that). The park also hopes to sign deals with iconic British brands to based rides on them too.

Paramount has signed a spate of entertainment licensing deals recently, including for a theme park in Spain, a hotel in Abu Dhabi and a Star Trek park in Jordan. The studio won’t be investing money on the park, but it will consult on designs for the attractions.

Of course, before the park can open, there are a lot of hurdles to jump, not least getting planning permission and shoring up funding, but if it all comes together it could well be a great destination to visit. The image above is an early rendering of what the park may look like. (Source: LA Times)

Rebel Wilson Sells New Comedy to Universal

October 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids star Rebel Wilson has sold a comedy pitch to Universal Pictures, which Deadline reports she will write, produce, and star in, based on her own original idea. Sadly there’s no news on exactly what that idea is.

Peter Cramer, Universal’s co-president of production, commented, “Rebel has become one of the hottest comedic actresses working today and we are thrilled to continue our relationship with her following her breakout performance in Bridesmaids and her scene stealing ‘Fat Amy’ in Pitch Perfect. We are especially excited that this project will feature her amazing talents both in front of and behind the camera.”

Rebel also recently starred in the comedy Bachelorette, and will next be seen in Struck by Lightning and Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain. The incredibly busy Wilson is also writing and starring in the ABC pilot Super Fun Night and Conan O’Brien’s Conaco.

Ralph Fiennes Books Into Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel

October 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the years Wes Anderson has built up a trusty stable of actors, such as Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray, who he’s used over and over again, but that doesn’t mean he won’t use new actors. Ralph Fiennes is an Anderson newbie, but he’s just signed up to work with the director on his new movie, Grand Budapest Hotel, according to Variety.

The actor will play M. Gustave, the ‘perfectly composed concierge’ who works in the titular hotel. Wes Anderson confirmed last month that Bill Murray is starring in an unspecified role, although he also debunked a rumor that Johnny Depp will be involved. The filmmaker has also been reported to recruit Jude Law and Angela Lansbury to star.

Wes Anderson is directing from his own original screenplay. It isn’t known when production will begin.
