Pride Documentary Trailer – The new look at what Pride parades/festivals mean needs your help

April 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago, a work in progress version of the documentary Pride screened at the BFI Flare LGBT Film Festival. It got a great reception, but in order to get it finished and seen by more people, it’s launched a crowdfunding campaign hoping to raise £25,000.

So what’s it all about? Here’s the synopsis from BFI Flare: ‘Pride began as a protest and has taken off around the world as a celebratory symbol of freedom, democracy and human rights. As the mainstream march in London draws larger crowds than ever before, off-shoots have also started to take root, signalling a major shift in queer culture and organising. What does it mean to be proud amidst discussions about racism, homo-nationalism and capitalism? Equally, what does it mean to critique the organisation of Pride-In-London when 49 innocent people were murdered in a gay bar in Orlando last summer?

‘PRIDE?’ is a provocative and intelligent documentary detailing the history of the movement and exuding compassion for the many, often conflicting, parts of the LGTBQ+ community. With wonderful, articulate commentary from the organisers of Black Pride, Queer Picnic, Pride in London and Lesbian Strength, among others. ‘PRIDE?’ is a genuine community effort that seeks to answer a simple but profound question about the future of this iconic movement.’

With the £25,000, the makers hope to complete the movie, including shooting more interviews, engaging graphic designers, getting archive footage, and completing legal reviews. Take a look at the trailer below, and if you like what you see, head over to Indiegogo to help out. [Read more…]

Michael Keaton May Be Getting Villainous In Tim Burton’s Dumbo

April 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although it still doesn’t have a confirmed release date, Disney is fast putting together the cast for it’s planned, live-action take on Dumbo. Production has been pushed back a month, but Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Colin Farrell are all onboard, and now they may be joined by Michael Keaton, according to Variety.

The plot of the film will revolve both around the baby elephant with enormous ears, as well as some children that befriend him. Farrell is set to play their father. Keaton’s role would see him as the man who buys the circus from Danny DeVito, so that he can exploit the little elephant and his mother.

It will be the first time director Tim Burton has worked with Keaton since Batman Returns in 1992, so it’s certainly an overdue reunion. Ehren Kruger wrote the script for the film, which is expected in cinemas either late 2018 or early 2019.

Colin Farrell Joining Viola Davis In Steve McQueen’s Widows

April 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Colin Farrell is certainly filling up his dance card, as he recently signed on to star in Disney’s live-action Dumbo movie, and now he’s also set to join Viola Davis in Steve McQueen’s Widows, according to Variety. The film will be the director’s first film since his Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave.

The film is based on Lyda La Plante’s acclaimed 1983 British miniseries ‘about a caper gone wrong, the story follows four armed robbers who are killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.’ Farrell will play a politician who gets mixed up in the criminality.

As well as Viola Davis and Colin Farrell, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Rodriguez, Daniel Kaluuya, and Andre Holland are set to star. Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn is set to pen the screenplay. The movie is due to start shooting fairly soon, with Farrell slotting it in before Tim Burton’s Dumbo.

Armie Hammer To Star In Ben Wheatley’s Freakshift, Opposite Alicia Vikander

April 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire has just hit UK cinemas, but he’s already planning his next movie, with Alicia Vikander signed up to star. Now he’s got one of his Free Fire stars to join the cast, as Deadline reports that Armie Hammer is now onboard.

The movie is an ‘action thriller about a band of misfit cops who hunt down and kill nocturnal underground monsters’. Vikander is taking the lead role, with Hammer as her love interest.

Wheatley is set to direct from a script he co-wrote Freakshift with his wife, Amy Jump. The movie is due to start shooting this August, once Vikander has finished shooting the remake of Tomb Raider.

As well a Free Fire (where as you can see above, he’s super-beardy), Hammer will be seen later this year in the gay-themed Call Me By Your Name, which received huge amounts of praise on its Sundance debut. Many expect it to be a major arthouse success.

Something Like Summer Trailer – True love runs far from smooth for two young gay men

April 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘BENJAMIN BENTLEY is the only guy at his Texas high school with the courage to come out of the closet, dooming himself, he believes, to a life of loneliness. Putting up with the bullies and his classmates’ whispered condemnations keeps him from pursuing his dream of being a singer, despite the encouragement of his best friend, Allison. Instead, Ben spends his summer vacation stalking the handsome athlete who just moved to town, Tim Wyman. Everything changes when Ben’s clumsiness causes an accident that brings him and Tim together, beginning a secret romance threatened at every turn by discovery and bigotry…

Years pass and Ben finds himself in Chicago attending college, still no closer to the true love he thought he’d found with Tim. On a trip home, he takes up with charming flight attendant Jace – possibly the world’s perfect boyfriend – and transfers to Texas University, where he’s reunited with Allison. But his happiness is upended when he runs into Tim, now out of the closet, and thrilled at the prospect of winning back his lost love…

‘SOMETHING LIKE SUMMER follows the course of true love over the span of a dozen years, from awkward adolescence through challenging adulthood, featuring seven classic and original musical numbers and the artwork of a talented young artist.’

New The Mummy Trailer – Tom Cruise is up against the long-dead

April 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Universal has a lot riding on The Mummy, as they’re hoping they can rival Disney/Marvel and Warner/DC’s interconnected coming book universes, with a monster movie universe. They’re kicking that off with The Mummy, and they’ve got some a-list talent to help them, with Tom Cruise starring. Russell Crowe is also due to show up as Dr. Jeykyll/Mr. Hyde.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilisation: The Mummy.

‘Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television’s Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Oscar® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator). The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, who have been instrumental in growing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years—with Kurtzman writing or producing entries in the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and Morgan being the narrative engineer of the Fast & Furious saga as it has experienced explosive growth from its third chapter on. Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, produces alongside Kurtzman and Morgan.’

The film is due out in June. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Annabelle: Creation Trailer – The creepy doll is back & causing trouble

April 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Conjuring franchise is a bit of an odd one. The main films are supposedly based on true story (although I think we can take a lot of what happens in them with a pinch of salt), but there are also spin-offs that most definitely aren’t based on reality. The first of those, Annabelle, proved popular, which is now getting a follow-up. From the trailer, it looks like it will also tie into another planned spin-off, The Nun, which is due out next year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From New Line Cinema comes “Annabelle: Creation,” with David F. Sandberg (“Lights Out”) helming the follow up to 2014’s hugely successful “Annabelle,” which scared up nearly $257 million at the worldwide box office during its run in theaters. The new film is once again being produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, who also partnered so effectively on “The Conjuring” movies.

‘In “Annabelle: Creation,” several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

‘Sandberg directs from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote “Annabelle.” The film stars Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), Talitha Bateman (“The 5th Wave”), Lulu Wilson (upcoming “Ouija 2,” “Deliver Us from Evil”), Philippa Coulthard (“After the Dark”), Grace Fulton (“Badland”), Lou Lou Safran (“The Choice”), Samara Lee (“Foxcatcher,” “The Last Witch Hunter”), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony LaPaglia (TV’s “Without a Trace”) and Miranda Otto (Showtime’s “Homeland,” “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy).’

The movie is due out in August. [Read more…]

Doctor Who Is Getting An Out Gay Companion For The First Time

April 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Doctor Who has had many companions over the years, but now, for the first time, he’s getting one that’s openly gay. Pearl Mackie, who’s playing new companion Billie Potts, will reveal her sexuality in the first couple of lines she speaks when the show returns to British TV for its tenth season (since its revival).

“It shouldn’t be a big deal in the 21st Century. It’s about time isn’t it?” says Mackie (via the BBC).

She adds, “That representation is important, especially on a mainstream show. It’s important to say people are gay, people are black – there are also aliens in the world as well so watch out for them. I remember watching TV as a young mixed race girl not seeing many people who looked like me, so I think being able to visually recognise yourself on screen is important. [Being gay] is not the main thing that defines her character – it’s something that’s part of her and something that she’s very happy and very comfortable with.”

Since the show returned to TV in 2005, there have been several gay and bisexual characters, such as Captain Jack (John Barrowman), River Song (Alex Kingston), as well as Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) and her wife Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart). However, while these characters have appeared in numerous episodes, they haven’t travelled with the Doctor full time.

The series returns on April 15th, and promises to be the last featuring Peter Capaldi in the title role.

Final King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Trailer – Charlie Hunnam takes on the legendary tale

April 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While it looked for a while like Warner Bros. thought they had a flop with King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword and were going to dump the movie in a graveyard slot, they seem to have warmed to the movie. It’s now getting a prime May release date, and the hype is growing with the release of a new trailer.

Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana star in the movie, which will follow the King in ‘an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.”

The movie is set for release in May. The movie was originally set to be the start of a whole Knights Of The Roundtable franchise, with each movie focussing on a different knight. At the moment that’s been put on the backburner, but expect it to be resurrected if Legend Of The Sword is a success. [Read more…]

All Male, All Nude Trailer – Gerald McCullouch takes us inside a legendary gay male strip joint

April 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

You might know Gerald McCullouch from the Bear City movies, or as one of the lab techs in CSI. However, he’s now following in the footsteps of Joe Manganiello and directing a documentary about male strippers.

McCullouch has set his sights on America’s only all nude, all male, gay strip club, Swinging Richards, which isn’t, as you might expect in New York or Los Angeles, but is instead in the heart of the Bible Belt, in Atlanta.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From part of the creative team behind the award-winning E! TV show “F.Y.E.!”, All Male, All Nude. is a cutting-edge journey into the taboo world of male stripping. The men living this life can’t be boxed in nor can those who pay to watch them strip. Straight men, gay men, bi-sexual men and those who are gay only when the money is right support themselves and, sometimes their families, by dancing nude for a diverse clientele of gay men, straight women, business men in town for work, married couples and everyone in between.

‘The men range from their 20’s up to their 40’s and have a weight room and locker room as their home base for the evening while they connect with customers in a deft money making venture. Each relishes, defends, enjoys and abhors their career choice and looks back on life’s lessons that led them to where they are now.’

Take a look at the trailer below. The film will debut at Out On Film in Atlanta on April 1st. [Read more…]
