Justin Timberlake Closer To Playing Elton John In Biopic

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago reports started circulating that Elton John wanted Justin Timberlake to play him in a Moulin Rouge-style biopic of his life that the singer is busy planning. Timberlake seemed interested, and now Elton’s hubby (and co-producer on the movie), David Furnish, has confirmed Justin is likely to take the role, as long as they can find a director everyone’s happy with.

Furnish told E! News: ‘We’re searching for a director. It’s important we all share the same vision. Elton and Justin have had conversations about it. Justin also says he has to feel comfortable with the director and the director has to be comfortable with Justin. The chemistry is really important. There’s no race to make this. We’re just going to take the time to make it right.’

Elton has previously said the movie will be a “surreal look at my life, and not just a factual look at my life, more in the manner of a Moulin Rouge”. The singer, who’s never been averse to a bit of flamboyance, added that a “normal biopic” would be inappropriate “because my life hasn’t been like that”.

Brandon Routh Playing Gay In TV Pilot, Partners

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Superman is going gay! Well, an actor who once played Superman is playing gay at lease. Brandon Routh has landed a role in an upcoming TV pilot, playing as the boyfriend of Ugly Betty star and real-life homo Michael Urie.

The show, called Partners, is from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan and centres on lifelong friends and business partners, Charlie (Sophia Bush), who is straight, and Louis (Urie), who is gay. According to Deadline, Routh will play Louis’ longterm boyfriend, a reformed alcoholic, club-hopping model, who’s now a sober, vegan nurse.

Just because they’re making a pilot doesn’t mean it’ll become a series, but with Mutchnick and Kohan behind the camera, it’s certainly got pedigree.

Superman Returns may not have given Routh a massive movie career, but perhaps his career will get new life on TV. He’s certainly pretty, so the more we see of him the better!

Intial reports said the Academy had banned him, but they responded saying he wasn’t banned but that the stunt was unwelcome. February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Samuel L. Jackson and Paul Giamatti both have form on animated movies, Jackson on the likes of The Incredibles and Giamatti in Robots and The Ant Bully, and now they’re going CG again as THR reports they’ve joined the voice cast of Dreamworks Animation’s Turbo.

Also signing up are Michael Peña, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith and Snoop Dogg, who join the previously cast Ryan Reynolds, who’ll voice the main character. Anthony Mackie In Talks For Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s almost like a support group for people coming off movies about large fighting robots, as Real Steel star Anthony Mackie is now in talks to join Transformers director Michael Bay’s new movie, Pain & Gain, which Bay plans to shoot fairly soon, before going back to the world of bots for Transformers 4.

Pain and Gain is based on a series of articles from the Miami New Times, and sees Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg as two Sun Gym employees who kidnap a business man, torture him, and leave him for dead, only to fail and have the man come back seeking revenge. According to Variety, Mackie is in talks to play Adrian Doorbal, a big-hearted bodybuilder who trains with Daniel Lugo (Wahlberg). However, he gets frustrated by the lack of results from his hard work and soon gets caught up in Lugo’s plot.

Described as a mix of Pulp Fiction and Fargo it’s something very different for Michael Bay, and indeed he may eve be making to try and prove his naysayers wrong. It’ll begin shooting early this spring.

Lily Collins May Take On Michael Sucsy’s Rosaline

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If there’s one story that Hollywood has overplayed, it’s Romeo & Juliet, but Tinsel Town isn’t going to give up, as not only is there a new version based on Shakespeare’s text that’s just finished shooting, but now Variety reports that Lily Collins is in talks to headline the romantic comedy Rosaline, which is a revisionist take on the story, based on the upcoming novel When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle.

Rosaline doesn’t actually appear in Romeo & Juliet, but she is mentioned as the girl Romeo dated before he took up with Ms. Capulet. This new take tells the story through Rosaline’s eyes, as she watches the two doomed lovers enter into a suicide pact. Deborah Ann Woll and Dave Franco are also in talks for the movie, but it isn’t known exactly who they will play.

Gay director Michael Sucsy (Grey Gardens, The Vow) is set to direct.

Dwayne Johnson In Talks For Brett Ratner’s Hercules

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If there’s one man in Hollywood who looks like he could take on some literally herculean tasks it’s Dwayne Johnson, and director Brett Ratner obviously thinks the same, as Johnson is now in talks for Ratner’s planned take on the legend of Hercules for MGM, accoridng to Variety.

The film will be based on Steve Moore graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian War, with Ryan Condol set to adapt the screenplay. The action finds Hercules roaming the earth, amassing a small group of mercenaries to fight other people’s wars for pay. He eventually finds himself defending Olympus from an army of the damned.

There is no shooting date for Hercules, and with Johnson already having a lot on his plate, it may not be able to go for a while yet.

Fresh American Pie: Reunion Trailer

February 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A new trailer for American Pie: Reunion is here, keen to say that while it’s been several years since we last caught up with Jim, Oz, Stifler and co. things are very much the same and although they’ve grown up, their teenage selves still lurk inside. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the comedy American Pie: Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago are returning to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler’s mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about—and get inspired by—the hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend.’ The film hits cinemas May 2nd.
