Chloe Moretz Recalls The Struggles & Bullying Her Gay Brothers Faced Growing Up

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chloe-moretzKick-Ass star Chloe Moretz has long been a supporter of gay rights, partly because she he two gay brothers. She was 11 when Trevor and Colin came out, and she witnessed the difficulties they faced, something she’s been talking about with Nylon.

She says, “At 11, you’re incredibly observant and realizing what society is, and who you are, and people are kissing boys or girls for the first time, and you’re really starting to understand what sexuality is. And to see my brothers struggle with the anxiety of having to come out was awful.”

Chloe is not afraid to challenge those who make homophobic comments towards her or her family on social media, something that stems from seeing the bullying her brothers faced. “The problem is we live in a society where we have to say the words, ‘I’m coming out,’ she says, “No one should care what your sexual orientation is, what color your skin is, or if you’re a man or a woman. People would call them [her brothers] the F-word, and I would get so angry. It was really hard to see my brothers be hated on or bullied, so I stood up for them. We shouldn’t be using these terms to create more labels and segregate us further apart than we already are. At a young age, I was motivated to fight for gay rights, women’s rights, minority rights—all human rights.”

It did help all of them though that they grew up in a progressive household. “Back when my mom was in college, when things were more taboo, she had lots of gay and trans friends, people of all shapes, sizes, and colors,” Moertz says. “So we were a very open household… My mom tells us people asked her, ‘Why are you letting your son run around in a pink Power Ranger costume?’ Her answer was: ‘Because he wants to wear it, and it makes him smile. Why would I take that away from him?’”

Chloe will next be seen in the alien invasion movie, The 5th Wave.

Nathan Lane Marries His Partner Of 18 Years, Devlin Elliott

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nathan-lane-devlin-elliotNathan Lane’s recurring character on Modern Family was a key part of the wedding of Cam and Mitchell, but the actor hilmsef has waited a little longer for his own nuptials. Now though, People reports that Lane married his partner of 18 years, Devlin Elliott, at City Hall in New York last Tuesday.

Lane came out publicly in 1999, something that suprised very few people, and it certainly had little effect on his career. As an actor he’s a double Tony winner (for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and The Producers), and has had success on screen in everything from The Birdcage and Mousehunt to The Good Wife and voicing Timon in The Lion King.

Lane has previously spoken about the fact that if he ever did marry it would be a quiet affair, something he’s followed through with a City Hall wedding and a wait of several days for it to be officially announced.

Congratulations Nathan!

Transparent Season 2 Trailer – Jeffrey Tambor returns as Maura Pfefferman

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transparent-s2-slideFollowing its incredibly successful first run, which included millions of viewers (via Amazon Instant Video), winning two Golden Globes, five Emmys and plenty more awards, Transparent is coming back for Season 2, and we’ve got the first teaser trailer to prove it.

Take a look at it below.

Jeffrey Tambor’s Maura Pfefferman is back, with her dysfunctional family moving on from the initial surprise and readjustment of realising the patriarch of their family is actually a matriarch.

The teaser revolved around a wedding pic, with The Verge saying, ”The whole family’s trying to get together for a wedding photo — it looks like Sarah (Amy Landecker) is one of the two brides — but it’s quickly submarined when the photographer calls Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) ‘sir.”

The whole of Season 2 will be released on December 11th.

Hot Pursuit (Blu-ray Review)

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara, Matthew Del Negro, Robert Kazinsky, Michael Mosley
Director: Anne Fletcher
Running Time: 87 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: November 23rd 2015 (UK)

Hot Pursuit must have seemed like a slam dunk. Get two popular actresses who’ve had comedy success, give them a script that’s a little similar to The Heat and bring in a director who had a big hit with The Proposal. However, the resulting movie flopped at the cinemas and has an abysmally low rating of 7% on Rotten Tomatoes.

To be fair to it though, it’s not as dreadful as that might suggest. You can almost feel the critics reacting to the fact it all very forced – a movie that from the ground up feels cynically contrived to pander to the audience and as a result ends up lacking real heart. However, everyone involved is obviously extremely keen to please, rather like an overly keen party host, where you can appreciate the effort even if you wish they wouldn’t try so hard. [Read more…]

Sam Riley In Talks To Star Opposite Scarlett Johansson In Live-Action Ghost in the Shell

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sam-rileyFor a few years now a live-action movie version of the beloved mange Ghost In The Shell has slowly been being put together in Hollywood. Last year it Rupert Sanders (Snow While And The Huntsman) to direct and Scarlett Johansson to star, but it’s only in the last few months things have really kicked up a gear, with a March 2017 release date set, and Pilou Asbæk given a major role.

Now it may have found its villain, as Deadline reports that Sam Riley is in talks for the movie. No deal has been made yet and there’s a possibility it could fall through, but it appears both sides want to make it happen.

The filme will follow ‘a female special ops cyborg (Johansson) who leads a fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9 for Hanka Robotics. The unit is devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, led by The Laughing Man (Riley) who will stop at nothing to destroy Hanka’s advancements in cyber technology.’

Kenneth Branagh Takes On Murder on the Orient Express As Both Director & Star

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kenneth-Branagh-slideAfter the likes of Thor and Cinderella, Kenneth Branagh is heading towards a classic murder-mystery, as THR reports he’s set to star and direct in Fox’s long-gestating remake of Agatha Christie’s Murder On The Orient Express.

As the title suggests, Christie’s novel is about a death on the world’s most famous train, as a man known as Mr. Ratchett is stabbed 12 times and killed. Hercule Poirot, who happens to be travelling on the Orient Express starts to investigating, discovering that many people could be the culprit.

There are suggestions that Fox is thinking of Murder On The Orient Express as the first of a potential franchise, with plenty more Poirot stories that could be adapted if this film is a success. Michael Green is writing the screenplay.

Brad Pitt Developing Sci-Fi Flick Illuminae

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brad-pittBrad Pitt is putting on his producer’s hat again to make a movie adaptation of the recently published sci-fi novel by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, Illuminae, with Warner Bros. backing the movie, according to Variety.

It looks like an attempt to create a franchise, as the book is planned as the first part of the trilogy, so hopefully if the movie is a success, they’ll have plenty of ready-made material for sequels.

The novel, ‘centers on a hacker and her ex-boyfriend in the year 2575 with two rival megacorporations warring over a planet at the edge of the universe. With a plague breaking out, the duo is forced to evacuate the planet with a hostile warship in pursuit. The story is told through a dossier of hacked documents including emails, maps, files, IMs, medical reports and interviews.’

It’s not clear whether Pitt is looking at this as something he might want to star in, or just produce. It’s likely he’ll wait to see a script before deciding.
