Sisters Trailer – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are getting related

July 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sisters-slideTina Fey and Amy Poehler sure love to work together, having followed SNL with everything from Mean Girls to Baby Mama. Now they’re back and they’re getting related in Sisters.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for SISTERS, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.

‘Fey produces the comedy alongside Jay Roach (Meet the Parents series) and John S. Lyons (Austin Powers in Goldmember), and Poehler executive produces alongside Jeff Richmond and Brian Bell from a script by Paula Pell (TV’s Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock).’

It’ll be in UK cinemas March 2016. [Read more…]

The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death (DVD Review)

July 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Phoebe Fox, Jeremy Irvine, Helen McRory
Director: Tom Harper
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 13th 2015 (UK)

The Woman In Black surprised nearly everyone when it became the most successful horror movie ever at the British box office. Due to the fact it was such a huge hit, it’s not surprising a sequel has emerged, complete with a story by Susan Hill who wrote the original Woman In Black novel.

Things have moved on though, as Angel Of Death is set 40 years after the original during the Second World War, when a group of evacuees and their teachers, Jean Hogg (Helen McCrory) and Eve Parkins (Phoebe Fox), are sent to the countryside and move into the dilapidated Eel Marsh House – the setting of the first tale. Unsurprisingly this awakens the evil, ghostly presence that resides there, which seems particularly interested in young Edward (Oaklee Pednergast), who is traumatised and mute following the death of his parents in the Blitz. Grindr The Musical Parody Trailer – Would you want to see the rest (surprisingly, you might)?

July 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

grindr-the-musicalWould you buy a tickets to a musical stage show about Grindr? You might not think so, but after watching this trailer I can imagine there’d be quite a lot of people who’d stump up the cash to see a full-length version.

With its tongue stuck firmly in its cheek, the three-minute video presents us with the story of a young man who comes to the city and thinks the smartphone app will lead to love (and perhaps he’s right, as a new report says around half of its users have found love and/or friendship through the app).

The music is surprisingly good, really going for the Broadway showtune vibe, although with lyrics and subject matter that would make Sondheim blush. Take a look below and be prepared to smile at an idea that’s smarter and funnier than it might initially seem.

(Incidentally, it’s actually a little late, as there’s already a musical called ‘Grind’ about gay hookup apps, which was released last year as a 30-minute short film starring Anthony Rapp. You can watch that here.) [Read more…]

Did Rob Lowe Just Release The Campest 5-Second Video The Internet Has Ever Seen?

July 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rob-loweI’m pretty sure Rob Lowe is straight (after all, a video showing him sleeping with possibly underage girls nearly destroyed his career at one point), but it seems he’s been letting his inner campness out and then releasing it onto the internet.

In fact I’m not entirely sure whether it would be possible to fit any more gay-ness into five seconds than he manages in the video below, without things getting x-rated. There’s shirtlessness (many seem to assume Rob was naked when making the video, musicals (Julie Andrews and The Sound Of Music), lip-syncing and a rather hedonistic air.

However all Rob had to say about it was, ‘This is what I’m doing on my Saturday night. Enjoy.’

Take a look below and see if you can decide exactly what he was doing, besides perhaps practicing for the next season of Drag Race. [Read more…]

Experimental Gay Film He Loves Me Seeks Funding

July 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

he-loves-me-sanuye_shotekaCrowdfunding is becoming an increasingly popular way of raising cash for gay-themed film projects, and Konstantinos Menelaou is hoping to use it to help him jump into the realm of feature-length movies

According to the makers, He Loves Me balances ‘between fiction and documentary, the film will explore the unconventional nature of love and its ability to survive against the fear of loneliness and the problematic lifestyle of a big city. The collapsing relationship between Hermes and Shanuye finds an outlet for escape in an isolated beach. Once there, they expose their feelings and release their emotions. Their love reborn might not be enough to amend all the shattered pieces of their relationship.

Through this film Menelaou wants to create a new outlet of communication, which will allow the actors and the director to explore the key issues posed by the script and to offer the audience the chance to participate and further the dialogue when the film reaches its destinations.’

The film is expected to be ready by early December 2015 and will be submitted to a series of film festivals, amongst which is Berlinale, Toronto, Sundance, OutFest, Flare, South by Southwest and Venice.

Alongside the Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign, a promo trailer for He Loves Me has been released, which you can take a look at below. If you like that, head over to Indiegogo to find out more. [Read more…]

Fantastic Four Final Trailer – Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan get powered up

July 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fantastic-four-final-posterThere are still a lot of questions hanging over the reboot of Fantastic Four (rumours of extensive reshoots and problems with the original cut haven’t helped matters), but the trailer have actually looked pretty cool, and this ‘final’ promo is no exception.

Take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.’

Suicide Squad First Look Trailer – The DC Comics bad guys get a shot at redemption

July 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suicide-squad-cast-photo2-slideWhile it’s a safe bet Batman v Superman will do good business, 2015’s other major DC Comics adaptation, Suicide Squad, is a more uncertain proposition. It’s not surprising then that the film wanted to use Comic Con to introduce the world to the movie and they’ve now released the first look trailer for us all to see.

It’s certainly a potentially cool one, with a very detailed and different kind of comic book world to the one we’re used to – and the trailer also seems keen to silence those who’d already pre-judged Jared Leto as being wrong for The Joker.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An all-star roster of actors has joined new action adventure Suicide Squad, bringing DC Comics’ super villain team to the big screen under the direction of David Ayer (“Fury”).

‘The film will star two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith (“The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Ali,” “Focus”) as Deadshot; Joel Kinnaman (“Run All Night”, “Robocop”) as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Focus,” upcoming the “Tarzan” movie) as Harley Quinn; Oscar winner Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club,” “Alexander”) as the Joker; Jai Courtney (“Divergent,” “The Water Diviner”) as Boomerang; and Cara Delevingne (“Anna Karenina,” upcoming “Pan”) as Enchantress.

‘Ayer is also writing the script for Suicide Squad, which is being produced by Charles Roven (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”) and Richard Suckle (“American Hustle”). Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns are serving as executive producers.’

The film will be in cinemas August 2016. [Read more…]

Starring: Jody Latham, Liam Boyle
Director: Various
Running Time: 123 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: July 13th 2015 (UK)

The Boys On Film collection of gay-themed short films has proved far more successful than you would expect – after all, shorts on DVD have rarely found an audience. However, thanks to the quality of the films it’s now on its 13th instalment, but that doesn’t mean this one is unlucky. So what does it have in store amongst its 10 shorts? Take a look below to find out more.

And you can see what we think of other Boys On Film releases here.

Surprise – dir. Leslie Bumgarner (Canada) 9 mins 2015
Teenager Jack’s mother wants to talk to him about something. It soon becomes clear there’s something pressing she wants to get off her chest, but she isn’t sure whether Jack will understand the evolution she’s going through – especially as he’s got something rather different he needs to reveal. Surprise is a sweet and simple film that captures the dynamic between a mother and teenage child who love each other but exist on slightly different wavelengths. It also has a great ending which is likely to leave a smile on your face (as long as you’re not too shocked by naughty words). [Read more…]

Do I Sound Gay? (US Cinema Review)

July 12, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: David Thorpe, George Takei, Tim Gunn, Dan Savage, Dave Sedaris
Director: David Thorpe
Running Time: 77 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: July 13th 2015 (Outfest), July 17th 2015 (US)

I’ve always been slightly fascinated by the idea of ‘sounding gay’ and where it comes from. Is it something innate in certain people, an affectation, or a way of bonding (perhaps a hangover from the feeling gay men had of their other-ness when they were more rejected by society and internalised the idea of homosexuality amongst men making them innately feminine)?

My interest stems from two experiences, the first when I was only about seven or eight and a young boy started at school who we all thought was like a girl – and for all I know, perhaps inside he was. He only ever wanted to play My Little Pony, begged his mother to pierce his ears (so he could wear faux-diamond studs) and spoke with a feminine quality. At the time we didn’t have the words to express what made him ‘different’, but looking back there is no doubt that even if he was only about five-years-old, he sounded gay and was rather camp.
