Broke Straight Boys TV Trailer – The gay for pay porn site tries a reality TV series

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

broke-straight-boys-tv-pictureWe’re not quite sure what’s going on with this one, but gay for pay porn site Broke Straight Boys seems to have decided it would be a good plan to make a reality television series, offering a backstage look at these ‘straight’ boys who will do anything for cash.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A peek at the Broke Straight Boys Reality Show is here! Prepare yourself for one of the most unique series ever made for television. Its polarizing content and its visceral effect on viewers is undeniable. Without apology, this series provides an uncensored look into the lives of people who make porn… and more specifically, straight men who do gay porn and the multi-million dollar company that provides the platform.

‘Though no explicit porn is shown in the series, the mere suggestion of what they do and the insight into their chosen profession makes Broke Straight Boys a true character study, bringing the viewer into a world they may not have known existed and will surely never forget.’

It’s an odd but potentially interesting idea, although I can’t escape the feeling it’s essentially a publicity stunt, taking on the idea that the guys on gay for pay sites aren’t really straight, and often not quite as ‘regular’ as they appear. However the show seems to want to show they’re all into manly, straight things, have suitably masculine arguments (which sound perhaps a little contrived), and there are plenty of women around to show how much they’re into lady bits – even if the guys do get very close to one another in exchange for money.

We’re still not 100% all these guys are as straight as they’re paid to say they are, but if gay for pay is your thing, this could be the series for you! There’s no news on whether the show will actually air on TV or whether it will just be online (where it would essentially just be an advert for the site).

Take a look at the pretty much safe for work trailer below. [Read more…]

People You Know Pilot Episode – Whether you’re gay or straight you can be naughty in the new web series

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

people-you-know-pilotWhile there are a lot of good gay web series around, the problem for all of them is cash – if you don’t make any, it’s difficult to make more episodes. If you release your series for free on the web, you’re unlikely to make a huge amount of money from the likes of Youtube (unless you get extremely popular). If you charge for episodes, will people stump up the cash to watch?

The new web series People You Know is hoping so, as while you can watch the pilot episode below for free, if you want to see the rest you’ll need to pay for it via Vimeo On Demand. To make the offering a little more enticing than many web series, each episode is 20 to 30 minutes long and sells itself as being the web equivalent of a ‘primetime drama’ – although as you’ll see if you watch the pilot, it’s a little bit naughtier than network TV. Season 1, Part 1 is available for $15.99 (or $2.99 an episode), with the makers hoping to film Season 1, Part 2 this autumn.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘People You Know tackles the story of having it all in the most iconic, demanding and cutthroat city in the world, New York City. People you Know is a provocative series where the seven deadly sins corrupt a group of thirty-something urbanites, threatening their chance for happiness and love, as they strive to achieve their dreams while surviving the drama. At every turn, these friends get pushed to the limit and run the risk of losing all they hold dear. Joining the inner circle of friends are Pandora Boxx, of RuPaul’s Drag Race and Steve Hayes from Trick and Big Gay Musical.’

“This is more than a show about people behaving badly. It’s a story about how we all want to do the right thing, but sometimes our base desires get in the way.” Co-Creator Baltimore Russell says. “Each of these characters make choices that will affect their lives in very dramatic ways.”

“Our hope is that the audience joins us on this ride and that they find a little bit of themselves in the characters.” Co-Creator John Dylan DeLaTorre says. “We created this show to explore what it’s like for a close group of friends to maintain their relationships in the face of some incredible odds, where sometimes your best friend is your worst enemy.”

Tiger Orange Trailer – Gay porn star Frankie Valenti (aka Johnny Hazzard) goes legit with an LGBT-themed tale of sibling rivalry

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Frankie Valenti (Johnny Hazzard) in TIGER ORANGEBack in April 2013 we posted info on the KickStarter campaign for a movie going by the title Where We Belong, which was due to mark the legit debut of gay adult film star Johnny Hazzard (aka Frankie Valenti).

Since that successful campaign the film has been completed and has a new name – Tiger Orange – but Valenti still stars, with Wade Gasque directing.

The film is gearing up for its World Premiere as part of LA’s Outfest on Friday, July 18th, 8:30pm at the Ford, and ahead of that a festival trailer for the movie has been released, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Two estranged gay brothers attempt to make amends in Wade Gasque’s charming small-town drama. Set against the sun-kissed fields of Central  California, and anchored by strong performances from Mark Strano and pornstar-turned-leading man Frankie Valenti (aka Johnny Hazzard), TIGER ORANGE pits two diametric opposites against each other – the closeted introvert versus the out-and-proud hunk. The result is a blunt, playful meditation on queer sibling rivalry and the childhood bonds that force us together.’ [Read more…]

‘Feature-length, Experimental’ Gay-Themed Film M/M Seeks Funding

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mm-indiegogoThere are plenty of gay-themed films out there looking for crowdfunding, but even with the power of the web, it’s still tough for films that are a bit more experimental to get the cash they need. M/M is hoping to be the exception though, as it’s currently seeking funding via IndieGoGo.

Here’s the enigmatic synopsis: ‘Matthew is a Canadian new to Berlin. He’s come to escape from himself, make a fresh start. When he meets Matthias, he finds what he’s been looking for. Matthias is the new Matthew. Consciously or unconsciously, Matthew begins to take over Matthias’ identity. He cuts his hair, gets a tattoo, buys new clothes. When Matthias gets into a motorcycle accident, the opportunity is too perfect. Matthew is Matthias. In his coma, Matthias’ dreams and memories blur together, merging with the reality happening outside. Interior becomes exterior. Where the real ends and the artificial begins is a puzzle for all parties involved.’

The makers are also keen to add that, ‘Satisfying and challenging queer content remains at a premium.  M / M is not a coming out story.  It’s not a movie about being gay.  It’s not sassy quips and Bellinis.  It’s not about advocacy. M / M is a film and its main characters are gay.’

Drew Lint is set to direct the film, with the hope that if they can get the funding together it will shoot in Germany in October.

You can take a look at the brief promo trailer for M/M below, as well as one for Lint’s recent short film, Rough Trade. If you think it looks interesting, head over the IndieGoGo for more info and to contribute. [Read more…]

Pride Trailer – It’s Gay-Straight culture clash for Imelda Staunton, Andrew Scott, Paddy Considine and Dominic West

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pride-new-slideAfter a great response at Cannes – where it won the Queer Palm – the Brit flick Pride is heading for a September 12th UK release. We had a clip a few weeks ago, but now the full trailer has arrived (watch it below), showcasing this film about two very different groups of people wanting to support the same cause.

Based on a true story, Pride is set during the summer of 1984, with Margaret Thatcher in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support.

But the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. They identify a mining village in deepest Wales and set off in a mini bus to make their donation in person. This brings together two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership. But as you can see in the trailer, it’s not initially an easy alliance.

The likes of Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Andrew Scott and Paddy Considine star, with Tony Award-winning theatre director Matthew Warchus making his feature helming debut with the movie. [Read more…]

Channing Tatum Looks Moody In The First Foxcatcher Poster

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Foxcatcher-posterFoxcatcher is already seen by many as the frontrunner for the Best Picture Oscar – although there’s a long way to go and a lot of movies to be released before it gets any prizes. However it undoubtedly got a great response when it premiered at Cannes.

We’ve had a teaser trailer and some pics – both of which have had people commenting on Steve Carell’s fake nose – and now comes the first UK poster, which arrives via The Guardian.

It just goes to show how quickly things change in Hollywood, as when the film was announced, it was Carell who was the headline star with Tatum as solid support. However now it’s Channing who’s front and centre in the first poster, showing just what a box office draw he’s seen as.

The film is based on the true tale of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), who was murdered by his paranoid schizophrenic friend Jon Du Pont (Carell) in 1996. Du Pont was an heir to the Du Pont chemical company, who teamed up with Dave’s brother Mark (Tatum) to build a wrestling training facility known as ‘Team Foxcatcher’ on his sprawling Pennsylvania estate. The Schultzes tried to get Du Pont help for years before the murder.

Bennett Miller (Capote) directs from a screenplay by Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye. It’s out in the US on December 20th, with a mid-January UK date set.

The Skeleton Twins Trailer – A gay Bill Hader & a straight Kristen Wiig are estranged siblings

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

skeleton-twinsIf you heard that SNL alums Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader were starring in a movie together, you’d expect zany comedy to ensue. And if you heard Hader was playing a gay character, you might have visions of his outrageously camp SNL character, Stefan.

However The Skeleton Twins is a lot more dramatic than you might expect, even if they haven’t completely given up on the comedy.

they play Maggie (Wiig) and Milo (Hader), who are twins who went their separate ways years ago, but when they coincidentally cheat death on the same day, the shock makes them reunite and figure out how their lives went wrong. Maggie starts to re-examine her marriage to nature-loving slacker Lance (Luke Wilson), while the gay Milo goes to visit old flame Rich (Ty Burrell).

The film is due in cinemas later this year, but take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Somewhere In Palm Springs – The first two episodes of the animated gay web series arrive

June 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

somewhere-in-palm-springsThere are quite a few gay-themed web series out there, but not that many are animated. A new one has arrived though – Somewhere In Palm Springs – which has launched its first two episodes.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Life is hard when you’re young, dumb and hungry…poolside in Palm Springs, California. Somewhere In Palm Springs is the harrowing tale of 4 friends forced to wait a normal amount of time for their lunch to arrive to their lounge chairs — they share hopes, dreams, neuroses, and the sordid details of their various one night stands. They may be vapid, but, hey, at least they’re vapid.’

Drew Tarver (How I Met Your Dad) and Jimmy Fowlie (Go Go Boy Interrupted) provide voices, with Nate Clark and Allen Loeb writing each episode. Allen then designed the characters, and Nate animated them.

Take a look below, and you can follow the show at somewhereinpalmsprings.com. [Read more…]

Kathy Bates Says Uma Thurman Would Be Her Fantasy Lesbian Love Interest

June 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kathy-Bates-Sandra-Oh-TammyPoor old Sandra Oh. She’s just made a movie where she plays the lesbian partner of Kathy Bates, and now she discovers that Kathy would have preferred someone else all along!

The movie appeared in together is Tammy, the Melissa McCarthy comedy that hits cinemas next week, and sees McCarthy going on a road trip with her foul-mouthed grandmother (Susan Sarandon), and meeting up with Bates and Oh along the way.

However when Kathy was asked by PrideSource about who else she’d like to play her female partner on-screen, she says, “Who do I love? Oh, I could totally see this: I shared a plane trip with Uma Thurman once and I thought she was pretty cool. I could see doing a movie with her and having a lesbian relationship – although I’m much too old for her! … Yeah, that would probably be a fantasy movie relationship.”

Sandra needn’t worry too much though, as Bates is keen to point out, “I do know that I’m just absolutely in love with Sandra, and let me just say that she really brought our relationship to bloom. She brought a lot of love and warmth, and it was her idea to have wedding rings – because of course! – which I hadn’t thought about, and also, really, to think that our relationship is the healthiest relationship in the movie… I’m just so in love and married to Sandra that I don’t know if I could come up with anybody else. It would feel like cheating!”
