Eva Green May Star In Tim Burton’s Live-Action Dumbo Movie

March 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the more intriguing of Disney’s planned live-action adaptations is Dumbo, partly due to having Tim Burton in the directing chair, and partly due to the fact in the original animated movie, the main character couldn’t talk, even though various other animals could. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle it on the big-screen, and exactly what the expanded role for the human characters will be.

One of those humans may be Eva Green, as Variety reports that she’s in early talks for the movie. She would play the female lead, although it’s not known exactly how she’ll fit into the story. Disney will be hoping they can close this deal, as they’ve been having trouble filling out the male roles, as deals with both Will Smith and Chris Pine have fallen through in the past couple of months (Tom Hanks was also rumoured, but he doesn’t seem involved anymore either).

The plot of the film will revolve both around the baby elephant with enormous ears, as well as some children that befriend him. Disney is hoping to shoot the movie this year, with a late 2018 or 2019 release expected.

Misguided: Episodes 6&7 – The gay-themed web series about soap opera’s biggest fan returns

March 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last year we posted the first season of Misguided, which at the time was raising funds for Season 2. Now the first two episodes of the follow-up have been released, and you can take a look at them below.

The five-part series Season 2, created by and starring, Paul Gosselin,  pairs soap opera legends, Jean Carol (Nadine, Guiding Light) and Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie, General Hospital) in its opening episode. Both Carol and Zeman were nominated alongside each other at the 1995 Daytime Emmy Awards and over two decades later the soap stars have reunited in this online comedy, soap opera spoof.

Misguided follows the adventures of Paul, a soap opera fan with aspirations of one day appearing on his favorite daytime drama, Guiding Light. Unfortunately with the cancellation of GL, his dream seemed to come to an end, until his character meets ‘Jeva Jones’ played by Jean Carol, who submits him for a role in a CBS Daytime reboot of Guiding Light. In the first episode of Misguided: Part II, Jacklyn Zeman arrives as Paul’s soap opera loving mother, ‘Mo,’ who interrupts Paul while he’s in bed with his arch nemesis, ‘Bauer McBride,’ portrayed by Christopher Robert Smith.

“Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine sitting on my couch, wearing short shorts, and acting alongside daytime royalty, Jacklyn Zeman,” said Gosselin, “it’s been an amazing experience.”

The final three episodes of show’s second outing will be released on YouTube over the next couple of weeks. [Read more…]

Gay-Themed Web Series Old Dogs & New Tricks May Return, But Only With Your Help

March 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a while there’s been talk about a fourth and final season for the popular gay-themed web series Old Dogs & New Tricks. Last year we got the half-hour special, ‘Where Were YOU When The Rights Went ON?’, but sadly the funding hasn’t quite been there to get the final season in the can. Now though the makers are hoping to secure the cash they need, and they’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign to help them.

The show’s creator, Leon Acord, has confirmed that the show can only go on if they raise the necessary funds. The 53-year-old gay actor/writer, who stars as neurotic talent agent Nathan Adler, also states the forthcoming five-episode season of the West Hollywood-based comedy about four middle-aged gay best friends will, “absolutely, positively” be its last.

“I thought we’d already said goodbye last year, with our special celebrating marriage equality, ‘Where Were YOU When the RIGHTS Went ON?'” Acord says. “It was a very good show, and we left the characters in a great place. But now it feels ancient. We’ve gone from giddy-over-gay-marriage to traumatized-by-Trump.”

Acord says that fan reaction is another reason for the revival. “So many told me they need some comedy, some comfort, that we have a responsibility to continue to represent LGBT in positive ways during this unnerving time in our history.”

The show also received an unexpected boost in popularity this past December, an indirect result of Acord’s very public dust-up with Brady Bunch’s Susan Olsen. Acord called out the former child star-turned-radio personality on social media for her pro-Trump views after appearing on her radio show. The former child star countered with an email in which she called Acord a “f@ggot” (among other insults). Acord posted her email on Facebook. Olsen was fired and the story went viral.

Still, despite the change in the country’s political temperature, viewer demand and new-found interest in the show, Acord was hesitant. “We created our GoFundMe page months ago, but I wanted to wait until after all the campaign furor cleared to begin fundraising. Ha! The election turned out as it did, and online outrage is now louder than ever!”

While last year’s special flash-backed to show “the boys” on that historic summer day in 2015 when marriage equality became law, the series will jump ahead to present day when it returns. Acord hints the final five-episode season will reflect the current state of the country, and the anxiety in the LGBTQ community, “without becoming heavy or preachy.” We’ll learn that Nathan is suffering from nightmares, Muscles has been inspired to volunteer for Southern Poverty Law Center, Brad was asked to perform at Trump’s Inauguration, and that one character even voted for Trump, among other revelations.

“But we’re still basically be the same show we’ve always been, about four middle-aged friends struggling with work and relationships and helping each other grow up. But this time, we’ll finally see some real growth, as we sign off with a suitable series finale.

If you you’d like to help out, head over to GoFundMe, and you can watch the previous three seasons of the series at odnt.tv. You can also take a look at the new fundraising video below. [Read more…]

Russia Rates Beauty & the Beast As Being For Adults Only, Due To Gay Character

March 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You would think Russia had more important things to worry about than the recently revealed, “Nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie”, that director Bill Condon says will occur in the upcoming live-action Beauty & The Beast. However, almost the moment the news broke, politicians in Russia started frothing at the mouth about gay propaganda.

For example, MP Vitaly Milonov called for a ban – and he seemed as upset about the human-buffalo romance as he was about the gay moment – saying that the film (which he hasn’t seen) contained “perverted sexual relations” and would contravene the Russian law banning, “gay propaganda against minors”.

He hasn’t quite got his wish, but the Russian Ministry Of Culture has decided that the Disney fairytale is evil enough to give it a 16+ rating, the second highest rating, meaning it’s been deemed suitable only for those over 16.

Disney isn’t likely to be weeping too much though, as while they had the highest grossing movie in Russia last year, Zootopia, it still only made £39 million in the country. As Beauty & The Beast is currently tracking for a gargantuan $120 million opening just in the US, if a bit of homophobia affects it in Russia, it shouldn’t matter too much. The film will be out on March 17th.

Tomboy Trailer – Michelle Rodriguez & Sigourney Weaver star in the controversial gender-reassignment thriller

March 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

From the moment Tomboy was announced (since re-titled The Assignment) in the the US, it’s sparked controversy. While the initial announcement seemed to think it would be praise for bringing gender and trans issues into an action thriller, the synopsis made it sound like it would be ill-informed and exploitative, trading on old stereotypes.

It even earned a swift rebuke from GLAAD’s director of programs for transgender media, Nick Adams, who said, “We haven’t read the script, but it’s disappointing to see filmmakers turning what is a life-saving medical procedure for transgender people into a sensationalistic plot device. We are at a crucial moment in the public’s understanding of transgender issues, and stories like these have the potential to undermine the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve.”

However, now the film is on its way and we’ll be able to see whether Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver were naive to sign up to star, or whether it’s smarter than it initially seemed to be. Sadly, early reviews suggest it’s the former, while thinking it’s the latter.

In the film, ‘Frank Kitchen is an assassin at the top of his game. When he’s double-crossed by a group of ruthless gangsters he falls into the hands of a rogue surgeon, known only as The Doctor, who transforms him into a woman against his will. Aided by a nurse with her own set of secrets, Frank the hitman becomes Tomboy the hitwoman and revenge is the first thing on her mind…

‘Starring action cinema’s star du jour Michelle Rodriguez (Furious 7, Machete Kills) as Frank/Tomboy and featuring celluloid royalty in the form of Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar) as The Doctor, TOMBOY is an action adventure you’ll never forget. Also starring Anthony LaPaglia (TV’s Without A Trace, The Eichmann Show) and Tony Shaloub (TV’s Monk, Spy Kids), TOMBOY is a searing return to form for Walter Hill, director of 1980s classics such as Red Heat and 48 Hours, and essential for action aficionados everywhere.’

Take a look at the trailer below. The film arrived on digital platforms in the UK on March 13th. [Read more…]

Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep & Steven Spielberg Teaming For Pentagon Papers Movie, The Post

March 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

She’s one of the most storied actresses in film history, but Meryl Streep has never appeared on-screen in a Steven Spielberg movie. They have worked together, as Streep voiced one of the mechas in Spielberg’s AI, but it’s only now that she’s planning to get in front of the director’s lens, for the Post.

The other star lined up is someone Spielberg has worked with numerous times before, Tom Hanks, who’s also signed up to take on this look at the Pentagon Papers scandal, according to Deadline.

The movie will be based on Liz Hannah’s spec script, which recently landed one of the top spots on the Black List of the best unproduced screenplays. It’s ‘a drama about the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers in 1971, and how the Post’s editor Ben Bradlee and publisher Kay Graham challenged the federal government over their right to publish them.’

The Pentagon Papers was a Top Secret report commissioned to look at what was happening in the Vietnam War. It spoke of a dramatic escalation that was being hidden from the public, and much of its information seemed to support the growing idea that the war was unwinnable. After it was leaked to the Washington Post, the newspaper ended up in a legal battle with the government over whether they could publish more of what they’d learned from the report. At a time when the current US President is at war with the media and angry about leaks, this look at freedom of the press, the First Amendment and government lies could end up being extremely timely.

Margot Robbie Will Be Maid Marian In An Alternate Take On Robin Hood

March 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you grew up in the UK in the 1980s you’ll probably remember Maid Marian & Her Merry Men, where it was Marian who was the brainy hero robbing from the rich to give to the poor, while Robin Hood was a bit of a dim and fey fellow, even if he ending up getting all the credit. It now seems Hollywood is keen on a similar idea, as THR reports that Sony has purchased Pete Barry’s spec script, Marian, which already has Margot Robbie attached to star.

It won’t be quite the same as Maid Marian & Her Merry Men though, as ‘Marian unfolds after the death of Robin Hood, the love of her life. The titular maiden then picks up his cause to lead her people into a pivotal war that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom, but also see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.’

The film is one of several Robin Hood inspired tales Hollywood is making at the moment, with an origin story starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan due for release in early 2018, and visual effects supervisor Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull due to shoot a futuristic, sci-fi version later this year.

Crush Of The Day: A Slightly Furry Gregg Sulkin Gets Shirtless For Bello Mag

March 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just a few years ago, no male celebrity seemed capable of taking their shirt off without removing every single hair from their chest and stomach. Now though things have changed, with a bit of natural pectoral hirsuteness being allowed to stay intact.

One of those putting the razor away is Gregg Sulkin – and he is putting it away as just a couple of years ago he did a sexy photoshoot where there was only the faintest whiff of body hair – the former star of The Wizards Of Waverley Place, who’s more recently been seen in the likes of MTV’s Faking It.

Now Sulkin has been stripping down and looking extremely hot for Bello Mag, getting the chest fur dripping wet in the shower, and for some reason lying in a bath with no water in it. While he doesn’t seem to have quite learned how to wash himself properly – after all, he still appears to be wearing trousers in the shower – he does look pretty good!

Take a look below. [Read more…]

Kings, Queens & In-Betweens (US VoD Review) – Inside the surprisingly bright LGBT drag world of Ohio

March 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Various
Director: Gabrielle Burton
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: March 7th 2017 (US)

Who knew that Columbus, Ohio was a hotbed of drag? Well, I expect a lot of the LGBT residents of the city knew, but it’ll come as a surprise to most of the rest of us. Director Gabrielle Burton delves deep into that world in her documentary, Kings, Queens & In-Betweens.

Across its 90-minutes the film attempts to highlight the diversity of the drag world, which isn’t just about gay men going on stage dressed as caricatured women. There are also drag kings, some identifying as women, some men and others living between the two genders. Likewise, while most of the drag queens are happy to pull off the costume and makeup, and live as men for the rest of their lives, the documentary introduces us to at least one for whom drag became an outlet until they transitioned to living as a woman full-time. Deadpool 2 Teaser Short- The Merc With A Mouth is back to tease us before his next adventure

March 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although Logan and Deadpool seem like pretty much the polar opposites of the X-Men universe. Alongside Wolverine adventure Logan in cinemas this weekend comes a specially filmed teaser for Deadpool 2, letting us know the character will be back soon.

Now that teaser has arrived on the web, showing us that while directing duties may be moving from Tim Miller to John Wick co-director David Leitch, the tone and sardonic humour will be very much intact. The nearly four-minute teaser is actually more like a short film, with Deadpool showing that sometimes the superhero cliches – in this case changing from street clothes into your hero outfit – are easier said than done. And yes, there’s plenty of fourth wall breaking, not least that Logan is playing in a cinema in the background.

Take a look at the new vid below, which even finds time for a Stan Lee cameo and some Ryan Reynolds butt pushed up against glass! Deadpool 2 is due out March 2018. [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Brother & Sister Fight Over Hunky Poolboy In Great New Coca-Cola Advert

March 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While quite a lot of companies have tried to include LGBT people in their ads in recent years, often it looks like it was purely done to get attention. However, a new ad from Coca-Cola does a great job of including a gay character, without appearing like it’s trying to pat itself on the back for doing so – indeed, it treats it pretty much like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

It fits into a long line of Coke adds where women have been shown drooling over a hunky specimen of manhood, but this one shows that sometimes there are boys drooling too. In it, a brother and sister and both looking out the window at the gorgeous, muscled poolboy – and simultaneously decide what he needs is a bottle of soda. However, who’s going to get it too him first?

Take a look at the fun new ad below – and see if you will join the siblings in their poolboy admiration. [Read more…]
