Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Teaser – Tom Cruise isn’t taking any crap once more

June 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-reacher-never-go-back-slideWhile many disliked the idea of Tom Cruise being cast as Lee Child’s anti-hero, Jack Reacher, the movie itself turned out to be surprisingly good. It was successful enough that a sequel is on its way, which has just released its first teaser.

The film is based on Never Look Back, the latest of the Jack Reacher novels. It sees Jack return to his old military base in Virginia, where he is set to take the new female commanding officer out to dinner. However he discovers that she has been arrested, and Jack is also facing charges of assaulting a man and fathering a child. Reacher has no recollection of any of these things happening, which understandably starts him looking into what has been going on.

Cobie Smulders, Holt McCallany, Robert Knepper, Aldis Hodge. Take a look at the teaser from ET below. [Read more…]

Go-Go Boy Interrupted S2 Ep11 – Danny’s back in the club but it isn’t going well

June 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

go-go-boy-interrupted-s1-ep11This season of Go-Go Interrupted has already given us quite a few episodes, but it isn’t over yet. Danny finally has his job back at as a go-go boy, but things aren’t quite what he expected when he’s told he has to dance while dressed as a caterpillar.

Plus, the man who’s obsessively in love with him is there, as are his new friends, the mean gays. He’s also hoping the guy he’s majorly crushing on is going to turn up, but he’s unlikely to impress him in a caterpillar costume.

The show’s creator/star, Jimmy Fowlie, also made the statement, ‘This episode is dedicated to our LGBT family and allies in Orlando. I cannot stop thinking about you guys. That could have been any of us. But I am drawing strength from people in the community who refuse to let this scare them into hiding out. If anything this is a time to be more proud than ever. Feels like he said it best:

‘”The shooter targeted a nightclub where people came together to be with friends, to dance and to sing, and to live. The place where they were attacked is more than a nightclub—it is a place of solidarity and empowerment where people have come together to raise awareness, to speak their minds, and to advocate for their civil rights.” – President Obama’

Lead Character Of Doctor Who Spin-Off Class Will Be LGBT, Says Head Writer

June 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

class-doctor-who-slideThere’s a new Doctor Who spin-off in the works, called Class. Now a vast amount is known about the show, except that it’s set at Coal Hill Academy, with the sixth formers there having to deal with all manner of monsters and aliens, due to the fabric of space and time stretching thin.

We also now know that one of the leads will be LGBT, which has been confirmed on Twitter by the show’s head writer, Patrick Ness. The revelation led from his tribute to the victims of the Pulse shooting, with news saying, ‘Been asked if Class will have LGBT representation in it. Will a lead character with a boyfriend who he kisses & sleeps with & loves do? We were keeping that secret, but today that secret doesn’t seem very important. #lovewins There’s way more than one character on the show, of course; lots of stories to be told. WITH ALIENS & TERROR & EMOTIONS & STUFF!!!So I can’t wait for you to meet the characters of Class, all of em, all their sorrows & joys & goofiness & loves & losses. Roll on Autumn…’

A few hours later he added, ‘Kind of astounded that having a gay lead on Class has been such big news (EW, Radio Times, Express…). One day it won’t be, one day soon. BECAUSE IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL. One way to change the world is to act as if it’s already changed. That’s how I roll, that’s how Class rolls… (Except of course it is a big deal, I know; 15-year-old me never got to see himself; that won’t happen again, not on my watch)’.

As his tweets suggest, Ness is gay himself. Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah star in Class, which will debut online on BBC3 in the UK this Autumn, and on BBC America in the US.

New Ben-Hur Trailer – The classic tale gets retold with Jack Huston & Toby Kebbell

June 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-hur-slideI may be completely wrong, but I’m finding it difficult to believe this new take on the classic Ben-Hur is going to be a hit. Indeed, it’s difficult to see why they thought a new version was necessary or desired, or indeed the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’s Timur Bekmambetov was the man to helm it. Even so, it’s coming and a new trailer has now arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘BEN-HUR is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption. Based on Lew Wallace’s timeless novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. Also starring Morgan Freeman and Rodrigo Santoro.’

At least Toby Kebbell has suggested the homoerotic undertones between Messala and Ben-Hur may make it across into this new version, which were present in the 1950s take. The film will be in cinemas in August. [Read more…]

Pete’s Dragon Trailer – A very different take on the tale of a boy and his beast

June 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

petes-dragon-slideThe first trailer for Disney’s new take on the part-animated family film Pete’s Dragon was keen to show us this was going to be a very different movie to the original, while also only teasing us about what the dragon would look like. Now a full trailer has arrived, which underlines this is a movie that only shares a title and vague concept with the original, although it does give us a much better look at the now very furry beast..

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon” is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon. “Pete’s Dragon” stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World”), Oakes Fegley (“This is Where I Leave You”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Karl Urban (“Star Trek”), Oona Laurence (“Southpaw”) and Oscar® winner Robert Redford (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”). The film, which is directed by David Lowery (“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”), is written by Lowery & Toby Halbrooks based on a story by Seton I. Miller and S.S. Field and produced by Jim Whitaker, p.g.a. (“The Finest Hours,” “Friday Night Lights”), with Barrie M. Osborne (“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Great Gatsby”) serving as executive producer.

‘For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” flies into UK Cinemas on August 12, 2016.’ [Read more…]

McTucky Fried High S2 Ep2 – The LGBTQ cartoon addresses bathrooms, discrimination and oppression

June 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mctucky-fried-high-s2-ep2Even an animated high school isn’t free from discrimination, with Season 2, Episode 2 taking on bathroom issues for transgender issues. Things get tense and it’s time for action when some of the McTucky students get upset about one of their genderqueer classmates using what they consider to be the wrong bathroom.

Alongside the release of the episode, the makers of McTucky made the statement, ‘In the wake of the mass shoot of the LGBTQIA+ Latinx club Pulse in Orlando, FL just days prior, it is important now more than ever to lift up queer and trans voices, people of color, show solidarity and priority for the lives and issues that are too often silenced, overlooked and worse, killed. McTucky stands in solidarity with the Orlando community and in the movement for decades of bring attention to the violence and discrimination that impacts our communities.’

Moana Teaser Trailer – First look at Disney’s Polynesian princess movie

June 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

moana-slideAfter taking us into a city of talking animals with Zootopia – which recently hit a truly impressive $1bn worldwide at the box office – Disney is heading back into the world of princesses with Moana. However, rather than a chilly fantasy like Frozen, this one is set in Polynesia. The first teaser trailer has been released, with Auli’i Cravalho’s Moana, not being impressed with Dwayne Johnson’s demi-god, Maui.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfil her ancestors’ unfinished quest.

‘During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”), “Moana” sails into UK cinemas 2 December, 2016.’ [Read more…]

Outings (DVD Review)

June 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Lloyd Eyre-Morgan, Rob Ward, Daniel Wallace, Verity May Henry, Simon Keen
Director: Lloyd Eyre-Morgan, Rob Ward
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 13th 2016 (UK)

Outings is a slightly unusual release in that it’s essentially a straight-to-DVD TV show, offering three thirty minute episodes of a new gay-themed series. It comes from Rob Ward (co-writer of the play Away from Home) and Lloyd Eyre-Morgan (director of Dream On, Celluloid, Three In A Bed and the Iris Prize winning Closets), who wrote, direct and star in the show.

The series follows a group of friends, with each episode continuing the story but focusing slightly more on a different person in each. In Episode 1, Kane is dumped by Tom, not least because despite being together for a year, they still haven’t had anal sex. Kane starts to wonder if he’ll ever get his life together, and whether the fact he can’t bottom like a porn star is going to affect the rest of his life. The second episode concentrates more on Kane’s friend Keigan, who has been asked to be his brother’s best man. However, he doesn’t really want the job as he doesn’t think much of his future sister-in-law. His tendency towards trying to escape reality also reveals a few self-destructive tendencies. Denial (LA Film Festival Review)

June 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Derek Hallquist, Christine Hallquist
Director: Derek Hallquist
Running Time: 92 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: June 5th 2016 (LA Film Fest Premiere)

Derek Hallquist has worked as a cinematographer on documentaries such as Freakonomics, but decides with Denial that due to his strong interest in climate change, he will turn the camera on his father, Dave, who runs a small energy company in Vermont, which is working to increase the amount of renewable energy the US produces.

However, there is a problem, which is that while the nation’s enormous electricity grid works okay with the amount of wind and solar energy produced at the moment, it will have increasing problems as more is created. The wind and sun aren’t reliable in terms of the amount of energy they can produce at different times of the day, and with no economical way to store excess energy for use when the wind dies down or the sun goes behind clouds, there will be large issues if there’s high demand and not enough sun or wind to meet that. Dave thinks the answer is smart products, which can talk to the grid and adjust their power demands depending on the supply – taking more when it’s plentiful and less when it isn’t. [Read more…]
