Waiting In The Wings: The Musical Trailer – A male stripper & a wannabe musical star swap places in the gay-themed film

April 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

waiting-in-the-wings-slideWaiting In The Wings: The Musical has a genuinely impressive cast for a low-budget movie, with the likes of Oscar winner Shirley Jones, Sally Struthers, David Pevsner, Rebekah Kochan, Christopher Atkins, and Lee Meriwether. It also did extremely well at film festivals, winning numerous awards at both gay and indie fests, from Best Feature Film at QFlix Philadelphia to Best Musical at the Manhattan Film Festival.

The film is heading to DVD/VoD in the US on May 2nd, so now is a good time to check out the trailer for a movie that looks like it’s a lot of fun.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Waiting In The Wings: The Musical is a feature film where two entertainers, destined for the big time, are mismatched in a casting office from two very different online contests. Tony, a stripper from New York, is cast in an Off-Broadway musical and needs to trade in his tear-away trunks for tap shoes and tights. Anthony, a naive musical theatre enthusiast from Montana, needs to decide if he can strip all the way down just to stay in town. Hilarity ensues as they realize that “to make it” they’re gonna have to learn some new tricks.  Shirley Jones (Academy Award Winner), Sally Struthers (Emmy Award Winner), Christopher Atkins, and Lee Meriwether round out this heartwarming homage to Broadway with some delightful cameos.’

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Bryan Cranston & Kevin Hart In Talks For Untouchable Remake

April 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bryan-cranston2011’s Untouchable (aka Intouchables) is one of the most successful non-English language movies ever made, grossing over $400 million around the world. However it made little impact in the US, other than to get Hollywood interested in a remake.

That said, it’s taken them a long time to start properly moving forward on it, but now they’re casting the film, with Variety reporting that Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart are in talks for the lead roles. Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn) is attached to direct.

The original movie followed a man who becomes a quadriplegic in a terrible accident and need to find a carer. He ends up hiring a poor, African immigrant with no experience, but who looks at him with no pity. Despite difficulties, they develop a strong bond that changes both of their lives.

The remake is expected to shoot this summer, and with a script by Paul Feig and Hart onboard, it’s likely to have a more overtly comic tone that the original.

Disney Plans Live-Action Film About Snow White’s Sister, Rose Red

April 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

snow-whiteAt the moment Disney is slightly obsessed with giving new, live-action spins to its classic animated movies, whether it’s Cinderella and Maleficent or the upcoming The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast. However, Snow White has been trickier for it, due to the fact she’s had a couple of other movies by different studios in the last few years.

Now though, they’ve found a way around it by taking on the lesser know fairy tale concerning Rose Red, who will become Snow White’s sister. The movie will be based on a script by Justin Merz, which will now be reworked around a pitch by Evan Daugherty (who also wrote the unrelated Snow White and the Huntsman), according the THR.

Rose Red appeared in the Grimm Brother’s story Snow-White and Rose-Red, although that Snow-White was a different one to the girl who appears in the more famous tale. However here they’re being given a more direct connection. The film will apparently be ‘a revisionist take that transposes Rose Red into the Snow White tale, making her a key player in the later part of the classic story. When Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister, Rose Red, must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarves to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life’.

There’s no news on when we might see the movie.

Eastsiders’ Star Kit Williamson & John Halbach Look Sickeningly Sweet As They Get Married

March 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kit-williamson-john-halbach-wedding10-slideIt’s not long ago that gay couples could get engaged but it was more symbolic than anything else, as they couldn’t get married. But things have changed, which means that after announcing their engagement last April, Mad Men and Eastsiders star Kit Willamson has married his partner, John Halbach.

Out got the pics from the Californian ceremony, which took place a few weeks ago in Joshua Tree (on February 27th, to be precise). Kit and John were joined by family and friends, with the ceremony taking place at an impressively spectacular looking location. The ever dapper duo wore green and blue herringbone suits from Ted Baker and exchanged platinum wedding bands.

I almost think they shouldn’t have released the images, just because of how sickeningly sweet and in-love the two of them look as they exchange their vows! Take a look at some pics from the wedding day below, and you can see some more over at Out. [Read more…]

Dorian Gray Web Series Trailer – Oscar Wilde’s tale continues, gets a little less white & a bit more gay

March 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dorian-gray-webseriesIt’s 126 years since Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray was first published, but the tale of a man who stays endlessly young as a picture of him ages and withers still holds a powerful place in popular culture. Now a new gay-themed web series is coming that continues on the story into the modern day.

It’s also keen to show that with criticism of depictions of gay culture being overwhelmingly white and straight, it isn’t difficult to tell interesting tales led by people of different cultures and ethnicities. The show follows Heath, ‘An intrepid young art history researcher digs into the mystery of his elusive boss, and discovers that the man is actually the ageless and immortal Dorian Gray, surrounded by an entire intriguing – and dangerous – world of the supernatural.’

Unfortunately it looks like we may have to wait a little while for the show itself, which is being funded thanks to a grant from a Canadian film development group. Keep and eye out for it and enjoy the trailer below. [Read more…]

Emma Thompson Speaks Out Against Homophobic Bullying

March 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emma-thompsonEmma Thompson has long been an LGBT ally, and now she’s decided to speak up in support of the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) Campaign to combat LGBT discrimination in Scottish Schools.

She says, “The time for homophobia is long gone. It’s over. Any young person indulging in homophobic bullying is a teenage dinosaur who should just go and sit coughing over a sherry in an old white men’s club.

“It’s not cool, it’s not intelligent and it’s not attractive. Let the rainbow live. We are all in this together and if you’re young, you know that better than anyone. Get rid of the old, get in with the new – get rid of homophobia.”

Thompson’s support for the campaign should certainly help TIE gets out its message, and it’s a message that needs hearing, as their research suggests a quarter of LGBT young people in Scotland have attempted suicide, and more than half have experienced homophobic bullying, and/or self-harmed. For more information on TIE, check out their website.

Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons To Star In Magic Comedy Man-Witch

March 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jim-parsonsJim Parsons has had huge success on TV and the stage, but he hasn’t done too much on the big screen. Indeed, his biggest role to date only featured his voice, in Dreamworks Animation’s Home. He’s now looking to change that, as he’s in talks to star in and produce the long-gestating movie, Man-Witch, according to THR.

Warner Bros. has owned the script since 2005, but despite having various people attached at different time, it never came together and it looked like it was pretty much dead. However, Parsons’ involvement brings it back to life.

The movie is about ‘a schoolteacher (Parsons) who abruptly discovers he’s got witchlike powers. A coven of real witches takes him in, promptly sending him to “witch school,” where he is the lone adult, surrounded by little girl witches-in-training.’

It’s not quite Harry Potter, but it could certainly be fun.

Robin Wright In Talks For Key Role In Blade Runner Sequel

March 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robin-wrightFor a few years now a sequel to Blade Runner has been in the works, which had the backing of both Harrison Ford and Ridley Scott. While Scott was attached to direct at one point, he’ll now only produce, with Denis Villeneuve helming.

Ryan Gosling has also been attached to star for quite a while, but it now seems they’re ready to move the project forwards, with THR reporting that Robin Wright is in final talks for a key role in the movie. There’s no info on the plot, although there are apparently three key female roles, with Wright nabbing on of them. Ford will also be back as Rick Deckard.

Wright’s involvement was dependent on her schedule, as she’s shooting Wonder Woman now, and also has the next season of House Of Cards to squeeze in. However, it looks like they’ve sorted things out and she will be ready to shoot the Blade Runner sequel when it starts filming in July.

Gay Short Film Showcase: Le Parcours – Looking at the obstacle course run by young LGBT people

March 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

le-parcoursTBWA Paris and Inter-LGBT France have teamed up to create the very short but very effective film, Le Parcours (The Course). As the title suggests, it’s about an obstacle course, but this is a metaphorical one looking at the difficulties faced by many LGBT people around the world.

Ben Briand of Moonwalk Films directed the short, which is filmed completely in the first person, mixing the real and the imaginary to give a very good feel for the struggles with school, friends, family and identity that many young LGBT people have to deal with. Inter-LGBT says they wanted to show, the ‘energy, patience and courage it takes to get up every morning and keep moving despite prejudice and violence’, for many LGBT people.

Take a look at Le Parcours below. If you know a short film we ought to be posting, tell us by getting in touch via our contact page. And check out more gay short films and web series here. [Read more…]

Seek McCartney/Looking for Rohmer Trailer – Get a glimpse of the first gay-themed Chinese film approved for release there

March 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seek-mccartneyAs we reported last September, the official Chinese censors had approved the first gay-themed film to officially allowed a release in the country – Seek McCartney (which is going by the name Looking For Rohmer on its international releases).  The movie is now preparing for its Chinese release, and to mark that, you can watch the trailer below.

The movie, directed by Wang Chao, focuses on the relationship between two gay men – one Chinese and one French.

There’s a bit of a battle raging in China at the moment over the government’s attitude to LGBT-themes. While the censor has approved Seek McCartney, last month it banned a popular series and had it removed from streaming services. It also announced it would take a dim view of ‘alternative’ relationships in other shows.

While gay sex was decriminalised in China in 1997, it remains a taboo subject for large parts of the county, and there is a bit of a cultural war over whether showing gay people in media is detrimental to society and Chinese values. Hopefully though the release of Seek McCartney will be the start of a liberalisation, even if what’s happening with TV suggests the opposite. [Read more…]

New Mother’s Day Trailer – Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson team for a tale of moms

March 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mothers-Day-slideBrits may be a bit confused about why a film called Mother’s Day is reaching cinemas over here until June, but it’s because Americans have a different Mother’s Day to us, so they’re getting the film in April, and we might as well wait until June. The movie itself is another Garry Marshall ensemble tale (after Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve).

This one stars the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, Britt Robertson, Sarah Chalke, Shay Mitchell, Jon Lovitz, Aasif Mandvi, Timothy Olyphant and Margo Martindale. A new trailer has dropped, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Mother’s Day” is the latest star studded ensemble comedy from director Garry Marshall (“Pretty Woman,” “Valentine’s Day”). Bringing together Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Julia Roberts along with Jason Sudeikis, it’s a celebration of mothers everywhere. This big-hearted comedy invites us all to enjoy the laughter, tears and love as three generations come together in the week leading up to Mother’s Day.’ [Read more…]
