EE BAFTAs Red Carpet Arrivals Gallery – From Matt Damon & Leonardo DiCaprio to Michael Fassbender & more

February 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

DSCN1218-slideIt was a very cold night in London, but we were lucky enough to be on the red carpet at this year’s BAFTAs to catch the arrivals. It was certainly a starry line-up, with everyone from Rebel Wilson and Dakota Johnson, to John Boyega and Saoirse Ronan.

Oh and some people called Michael Fassbender, Steven Spielberg, Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bryan Cranston, Eddie Redmayne and Benicio Del Toro showed up too. But nobody has ever heard of them.

As we were stood just before the main photography area, we managed to get a few more candid snaps of the stars than usual, often when they were getting ready to go in front of the lens of around a hundred professional press photographers. It’s an oddly interesting place to stand, as you certainly learn who’s considered important and who isn’t, with the big stars queue jumping and making the lesser celebs wait (it’s not their fault, they just get led there).

Take a look at the gallery below for the unexpected delights of Matt Damon and Eddie Izzard being in the same photo, Mark Ruffalo looking like he’s being a bit pervy (although I promise he wasn’t), and Bryan Cranston demonstrating the need for gloves that still allow you to work your phone. The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo: Episode 2 – The gay-themed web sitcom returns

February 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

caled-gallo-ep2At the beginning of Janaury, LA-based comedian Brian Jordan Alvarez introduced us to The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, with the first episode of his gay-themed sitcom. Now Episode 2 has arrived, once more showing us his wild and wacky mix of friends.

In Episode 2 Caleb has found a new man, Benicio, but he’s slightly freaking out because they’ve agreed not to hook-up with other people, even though it’s a long distance relationship. He’s also called upon to help his female BFF have sex with the their friend Billy (just help set it up, not get involved in the actual sex, which would be a little awkward), as well as visiting his academic advisors who are in a throuple. However, the ‘young bear’ in that throuple challenges Caleb’s resolve not to sleep with anyone else.

It may not be the bear that really causes an issue on that front though. Take a look at The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo Episode 2 below, and you can catch up with Episode 1 here.

Paul Rudd & Steve Coogan Set To Play A Married Gay Couple In The Comedy An Ideal Home

February 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steve-Coogan-Paul-Rudd

Our Idiot Brother co-stars Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan are getting married, although unfortunately it’s only going to be on screen. The news has come out of the Berlin Film Festival, via THR, that they will play a gay couple in the upcoming movie, An Ideal Home.

According to the trade paper, they will be ‘a troubled married couple with an extravagant life. Coogan plays a celebrity while Rudd is his more hesitant partner and sidekick. But when the grandson that Coogan’s character never knew he had shows up at their home with nowhere else to go, the couple reluctantly decide to take him in.’

It’ll be interesting to see whether this is a film that will mainly be about the fact they are gay, married and raising a child (right-wing conservatives would have a heart attack just reading that sentence), or whether the character’s sexuality isn’t such a big deal. I suspect the former, as Hollywood still doesn’t have a good track record with movies about people who just happen to be gay.

Andrew Fleming, who’s previously made the likes of Threesome, The Craft and Hamlet 2 (which starred Coogan) will direct. It’s not clear when it will shoot.

Dakota Johnson Wants Jamie Dornan To Go Full Frontal In Fifty Shades Darker

February 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

50-shades-bd-slide

It was a little odd that despite Fifty Shades Of Grey being most famous for being full of descriptions of full-on BDSM sex, the film version was a little coy and certainly wasn’t a showcase for Christian Grey/Jamie Dornan’s penis – although there was a brief look at the very top of it. The reason for that is that Jamie Dornan had a ‘no frontal nudity’ clause in his contract – which seems to rather go against the spirit of playing Christian Grey.

However now there’s one person who’s stepped up to try and get him to put it all on show in the sequel, Fifty Shades Darker – his co-star Dakota Johnson (who was fully nude in the first film). Talking to WatchWhatHappensLive, Andy Cohen asked about whether Dornan needs to get properly nude.

She replied: “That’s an interesting question, I’ll probably get in trouble for this answer… yeah. Yeah. I’m gonna make him get fully naked in the next one. Everybody wants to see the D, the Dornan D. We should start a movement, a campaign.”

Whether he will or not, isn’t known. It was slightly odd though, as during his modelling career Dornan had no problem taking his clothes off, and there are pics that regularly do the rounds of the internet showing off the Dornan dick. However, when playing an infamously sexual character, he got a little shy.

Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed will shoot this year for release in 2017 and 2018.

February 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

criminal-kevin-costnerIf you had to choose, would you prefer your brain to be put in Ryan Reynolds’ body or Kevin Costner’? Well the situation Ryan has to face in Criminal is suddenly becoming Kevin, which would be confusing enough for anybody.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Proposal) and Oscar-winner Kevin Costner (DraftDay, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), CRIMINAL follows a CIA operative (Reynolds), whose memories and skills are implanted into an unpredictable and dangerous death-row inmate (Costner) in a last-ditch effort to stop an international terrorist plot.’

Mother’s Day Trailer – The stars line up for another Garry Marshall ensemble movie

February 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mothers-Day-slideDirector Garry Marshall had a surprised hit with the star-studden Valentine’s Day, but audience’s weren’t as interested in the follow-up, New Year’s Eve. However, Marshall hasn’t given up, as now he’s bringing us Mother’s Day, which features the likes of Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, and Jason Sudeikis.

Once more they are a loosely connected group of people, all of whom are having issues involving mothers (or with the fact they are mothers), around the days that moms are supposed to be celebrated. To give us a taste, the first trailer has arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Mother’s Day” is the latest star studded ensemble comedy from director Garry Marshall (“Pretty Woman,” “Valentine’s Day”). Bringing together Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Julia Roberts along with Jason Sudeikis, it’s a celebration of mothers everywhere. This big-hearted comedy invites us all to enjoy the laughter, tears and love as three generations come together in the week leading up to Mother’s Day.’

It’ll be in cinemas this spring.

Disposable Teens: Episodes 3-5 – Find out what happens next to gay homeless teen Austin

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

disposable-teens-ep4Last month we posted the first two episodes of the gay-themed web series Disposable Teens. Since then the season has been completed with the release of episodes three, four, and five, so we can see more of the story of gay teen Austin, who becomes homeless after he’s forced from his family home. From there it’s a series of highs as lows and he discovers new friends and possibilities, but also plenty of new problems.

Outlicious TV, which produced the show, comments, ‘The season finale, Property, has created quite a stir on social media with its cliff hanger ending reminiscent of Glen’s recent story line on The Walking Dead. From a business perspective, OutliciousTV has been able to create new LGBT web series without seeking crowd funding while keeping production costs low. All five episodes were produced for an estimated total of $1200.’

You can catch up with Episode 1 and Episode 2 by click on the links, and finish up with the other three episodes below. For more info, head over to Outlicious TV.

Crush Of The Day: You Sure Need To Be Buff To Be A Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie Guy

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

power-rangers-shirtlessAlthough there have been Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movies before, they were pretty low budget and basically just extensions of the TV show. However now a proper Mighty Morphin Power Rangers film is going into production, and it’s even got Elizabeth Banks on board to play the evil Rita Repulsa.

However, the Power Rangers themselves are still going to be relative unknown, but as a new pic posted on Instagram, the guys who will appear in the film – Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery and R.J. Cyle – have spent an awful of time in the gym and are looking buff. They’re also not afraid to get their shirts off to prove it.

While I’ve never been a Power Rangers fan, I’m starting to think the movie version might be worth a look. Next up we’ll have to see what they look like in spandex outfits!

Take a look at the full Instagram pic below.

Gay-Themed Russell Tovey Football Flick The Pass To Open The BFI Flare London LGBT Film Festival

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-pass-slide2Just a couple of years ago Russell Tovey spoke in an interview about how he’d never played a gay character, and that it would need to be a special role for him to do so, as he was proud to be an out gay man who hadn’t been pigeonholed in LGBT roles. Since then he’s played gay more than once, such as in TV’s Looking and in a cameo in Pride.

He also played an LGBT character on stage in The Pass, and has reprised the role for a movie version, alongside Hollyoaks heart-throb Nico Mirallegro and theatre and TV actress Lisa McGrillis, who also starred in the play.

It’s now been announced that The Pass will screen as opening night gala movie of the 30th edition of BFI Flare: London LGBT Film Festival, on Wednesday 16th March, 2016, at London’s Odeon Leicester Square. The movie comes from first-time feature filmmaker Ben A. Williams, with John Donnelly writing the script, based on his own play.

The Pass is the story of three very different nights over 10 years in the life of a Premier League Footballer. Jason (Russell Tovey) is at the beginning of his career, and on the night before his first big international match he and long-time friend and team-mate Ade (Arinze Kene) share a hotel room, trying to beat the inevitable pre-match tensions with locker-room banter and teenage high-jinks. Out of nowhere Jason kisses Ade. The emotional repercussions of this pass, and the decisions that follow on and off the pitch, have a major impact on every aspect of the public and private lives of both men across the next decade.

The play was highly praised when it was staged in London, so fingers crossed the movie will be good too.

Producer Duncan Kenworthy comments, “As a season ticket holder of a major Premier League Club, I know just how much interest there is in the question of why no currently-playing Premier League player has come out – or has felt able to come out – as gay. The Pass is by no means an issue film, but John Donnelly’s wonderful screenplay puts very handsome flesh on the bones of this modern anomaly, imagining the pain, passion and complexity of the lives of elite footballers always inches away from fame or failure, and wondering whether honesty is worth the price.”

Tom Of Finland Biopic About Erotic Gay Artist To Shoot This Summer

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-of-finland-imageFor quite a long time two different biopics about Tom Of Finland have been duelling to get to the screen, but budget issues and other problems mean that both have been in development for years but haven’t actually completed shooting yet. However, now the ‘official’ one, which has the blessing of the erotic artist’s estate, is moving closer to the screen, as Deadline reports it will shoot this summer, and that the cast will be announced in the next couple of weeks at the Berlin Film Festival.

Born Touko Laaksonen, Tom Of Finland’s stylised images of hunky men with massive bulges, often wearing leather and/or uniforms, became iconic in the gay community. His popularity was initially helped by the fact that while many countries in the 1950s and 1960s saw photographs of naked and near-naked men as pornography, drawn pictures were classed as art and so Tom Of Finland’s images became extremely popular.

His stature has grown over the years to the point where the likes of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) hold his images.

And to ensure a film will be worth watching, leather and fetish weren’t just things he drew, they were something he was drawn to in his own life. He even gained controversy over his belief that Nazi uniforms were sexy (although he didn’t like the Nazis themselves).

Finnish and Swedish director Dome Karukoski will direct the movie from a script by Aleksi Bardy. Karukowski comments, “This is the story of a man ahead of his time, bravely standing up against a world virulently against his right to be who he was – a homosexual man with homosexual fantasies. The story shows how literally one person can create change in the world, even with something as simple as an artist’s tools.”

New The Huntsman: Winter’s War Trailer – Chris Hemsworth must deal with warring sisters

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winter-war-slide1There’s no Kristen Stewart in The Huntsman: WInter’s War, as this is what happened before the events of Snow White. And as this new trailer shows, that involves warring sisters, played by Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Discover the story that came before Snow White in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Chris Hemsworth and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron return to their roles from Snow White and the Huntsman, joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.

‘Theron stars as evil Queen Ravenna, who betrays her good sister Freya (Blunt) with an unforgivable act, freezing Freya’s heart to love and unleashing in her an icy power she never knew she possessed. Retreating to a kingdom far to the north, Freya raises an army of Huntsmen as her protectors, with the only rule that no two of them should ever fall in love.

‘As a war for domination escalates between the two queens, the hero standing between them is Freya’s most elite Huntsman, Eric (Hemsworth). Alongside fellow warrior Sara (Chastain)—the only woman who has ever captured his heart—Eric must help Freya vanquish her sister…or Ravenna’s wickedness will rule for eternity.’

The film will be in cinemas on April 8th.
