Take A First Look At Disney’s Latest Princess, Moana

October 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

moana-pic1It’s been a long time now that Dwayne Johnson has been attached to voice a character in Disney’s planned animated movie, Moana. However he’s been the only actor we’ve heard about.

Now Disney has announced who it is who will be playing the title character, with Hawaii-born 14-year old actress Auli’i Cravalho having scored the role. Alongside the news comes the first official picture and a video introducing us to Cravalho.

The first footage from the movie was shown in August as Disney’s D23 expo, and it was enthusiastically received by those who were there. That footage hasn’t been released online, so sadly we can’t all judge what it was like.

Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid) are set to direct the movie. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.’

Dwayne Johnson is set to voice demi-god Maui, who’s the other character in the pic above.

It’ll be in cinemas towards the end of next year. [Read more…]

Ellen Page To Lead The Cast Of The Planned Flatliners Remake

October 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ellen-pageFor a while now Neils Arden Oplev, who directed the original Scandinavian adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has been attached to helm a new version of Joel Schumacher’s 1990 movie Flatliners.

Now he’s starting to find his cast, with Variety reporting that Ellen Page is in talks to star. Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon as a group of medical students interested in what happens at the point of death. They start secrets experiments where they stop each others hearts, but revive them before it’s too later. However once they get a taste of what’s on the other side, they want longer and longer there – and they may be bringing something back.

There’s no news on the exact character than X-Men and Freeheld star Ellen Page will play, but presumably she’ll be a medical student.

F. Gary Gray Up To Direct Fast & Furious 8 & Black Panther

October 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

f-gary-grayIt seems The Italian Job and Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray s the man of the moment, as THR reports that he’s entered exclusive negotiations to helm Fast & Furious 8, while Variety adds that he’s also in the running to direct Marvel’s Black Panther.

Universal have been busy looking for a Furious 8 director ever since James Wan decided he didn’t want to helm. With an April 2017 release set they didn’t have much time, and hot on the heels of reports that they’d narrowed it down to a few name came reports of negotiations officially beginning with Gray.

Vin Diesel also confirmed it, posting a picture of him meeting Gray – an important part of the process, as Vin has to approve the director for him to get the job.

While the Black Panther news is less certain, it appear Gray is high up the list of potential directors. Selma‘s Ava DuVernay was previously attached to that one, but she has since left. However Gray may have difficulty making both, as with Black Panther set for summer 2018, he’d have to jump from one film to the other pretty quickly.

Sexy French Firefighters Get Hot & Strip Down For A Charity Calendar (Video)

October 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Pompiers-Sans-Frontieres slideMore and more calendars appear each year where sexy men strip down for a calendar, in order to raise money in good causes. However with increasing competition a lot of these calendars are trying to do things to make them stand out, with many also producing some very hot videos to help drum up interest.

A group of incredibly sexy French Firemen have now done just that, with a calendar photographed by Dieux Du Stade’s Fred Goudon, along with a couple of very hot preview vids that you watch below.

The calendar has been put together to benefit Firefighters Without Borders (Pompiers Sans Frontières), a non-profit organisation that is ‘dedicated to assisting fire departments in need of specific skills, training or resources related to fire service.’

Quite frankly, if this is what firehouses are really like, I need to find one and spend some time there – although I’m imagining that in reality there’s far less vaguely homoerotic shirtlessness going on.

Take a look at the preview vids below, and if you like what you see, you can buy a copy of the calendar here. [Read more…]

Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall Spectre Music Video Debuts

October 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sam-smith-writings-on-the-wallWriting’s On The Wall has already become the first Bond theme to score a number 1 of the UK music charts, but its only now that Sam Smith’s tune has got a music video.

As you’d expect for the theme song from a 007 movie, it’s a pretty cool and stylish video, giving plenty of hints at what we might expect from Spectre – which suggests it might not be the jolliest of films.

Sam Smith enlisted renowned music video director and long-term collaborator Luke Monaghan to direct the video. Shot in various locations throughout Rome, the video for Writing’s On The Wall opens with a poignant scene of Union Jack clad coffins and goes on to feature various shots of Smith filmed in the same locations as Spectre. The video is interspersed with extracts from the Spectre film including a love scene between Bond (Daniel Craig) and Lucia (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal.

Take a look below. [Read more…]

Seth Grahame-Smith May Direct Ezra Miller In The Flash

October 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Seth-Grahame-SmithDC has extremely ambitious plans to create a comic book movie universe to rival Marvel’s, with the seeds being sown with next year’s Batman v Superman. That will lead into all sorts of film running up to a full-on Justice League film and beyond.

One of those movies may have find its director, as THR reports that Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter writer Seth Grahame-Smith is in talks to helm The Flash.

Ezra Miller is set to play the character on the big screen (Grant Gustin will continue to play the superhero on the small screen), which will be introduced in next year’s Barman V Superman, will them be part of the two-part Justice League movie in 2017 and 2019, while his standalone film will come in the middle, in 2018.

It would be Graham-Smith’s first movie as a director, so it’s a big film to make your debut with, although he has extensive credits as both a writer and producer. He’s also currently attached to script project such as The Lego Batman Movie, a Gremlins reboot and new Looney Tunes film (all for Warner Bros.).

I Am The Queen (US DVD/VoD Review)

October 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director: Henrique Cirne-Lima, Josue Pellot
Running Time: 88 mins
Certificate: NR (US)
Release Date: October 6th 2015 (US)

Set in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighbourhood, I Am The Queen follows three transgender contestants taking part in an annual drag/trans beauty pageant held for those of Puerto Rican heritage. To be honest though, the Beauty Pageant is more of a framing device for a look into the lives of Jolizza, Julissa and Bianca, three young transgender women and the difficulties they face.

The documentary reveals a complex picture, ensuring that it goes beyond the women themselves to see how their transition has affected their parents and family. It certainly doesn’t make things look easy, especially for women of their age, as their gender identity comes on top of the typical teenage/young adult emotions and confusion, which unsurprisingly ensures they don’t always make the best choices. Likewise, it’s a time when they need the support of their family the most, but that is a challenge for all of them to a greater or lesser extent. [Read more…]

Dressed As A Girl (Cinema Review)

October 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jonny Woo, Scottee, Holestar, Amber, John Sizzle, Pia Arber
Director: Colin Rothbart
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: October 2nd 2015 (UK)

There are plenty of different opinions out there about drag queens, from those that think it’s a valuable part of the LGBT heritage or a harmless bit of fun, to those who feel it is a mockery of women and trans people, and plays into harmful stereotypes.

Dressed As A Girl should challenge a lot of people’s ideas of the world of drag – whether they’re positive, negative or indifferent – taking us into the lives of several members of the London East End alternative drag scene. Although there is a sort-of narration and interviews with the participants, there’s generally a bit of a cinema verité feel, with the camera following the performers around (it was filmed across six years) and allowing the viewer to contemplate what’s going on.

It’s a veritable bunch of eccentrics, from veterans such as Jonny Woo and John Sizzle, to up and comers like Scottee. There’s also Holestar, a drag performer who isn’t just dressed as a girl, as she was born one, and Amber, who has gone from the drag scene to transitioning to live as a woman full time. [Read more…]
