Matt Bomer & tWitch Get Shirtless Magic Mike XXL Character Posters

April 20, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

magic-mike-xxl-matt-bomer-posterIt’s time for more Magic Mike XXL sexy character posters (following Channing Tatum and Adam Rodriguez) with the arrival of suitably shirtless shots of the always delectable Mat Bomer and newcomer tWitch.

Both are looking exceedingly good and certainly help our loins decide they’ll need to head to the cinema when the film is released in early July.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Magic Mike” stars Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias are reuniting for the hotly anticipated sequel “Magic Mike XXL”. Joining the returning cast, in brand new roles, will be Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games” franchise), Donald Glover (“Community”), Amber Heard (“The Rum Diary”), Andie MacDowell (“Footloose”), Jada Pinkett Smith (“Gotham”) and Michael Strahan (“Live with Kelly and Michael”).

‘The new film will be directed and produced by Emmy Award winner Gregory Jacobs (“Behind the Candelabra”), who served as a producer on “Magic Mike,” as well as numerous features in a long-running collaboration with Steven Soderbergh. “Magic Mike XXL” also reunites “Magic Mike” producers Nick Wechsler, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin, with a screenplay by Carolin. Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first film, will executive produce.

‘Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.’

New Jurassic World Trailer – Chris Pratt looks exceedingly good tracking down Indominus Rex

April 20, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-world-poster3-slideWhen it was revealed Jurassic World would be set in a fully functioning dinosaur theme park many decided the film would be rubbish, but ever since the first images emerged many have changed their mind and decided it might actually be quite awesome.

That feeling certainly continues with this very cool new trailer which is full of dinos, plenty of harks ack to earlier movies as well as the suggestion the addition of genetically manipulated animals may be a very good idea – including the super-predator, Indominus Rex. We’ve also got three new posters you can look at below.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next instalment of his ground-breaking Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World. Colin Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure based on characters created by Michael Crichton. The screenplay is by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Trevorrow & Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley join the team as producers.’

The film is out in the UK on June 11th 2015. [Read more…]

Mr. Holmes Trailer – Ian McKellen turns detective as Sherlock Holmes

April 20, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mr-holmes-poster1-slideWhat happened to Sherlock Holmes after he retired? That’s the premise of Mr. Holmes which sees Ian McKellen as an aged version of the famed detective who’s drawn into one last case. Now the first full trailer has arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen takes on the iconic role of Detective Sherlock Holmes, one of the British literature’s most revered characters in the forthcoming film MR HOLMES.

‘In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson’s best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago that ultimately led to his retirement.

‘Starring Academy Award nominee Laura Linney (The Savages), Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter) and newcomer Milo Parker, MR HOLMES is adapted from Mitch Cullin’s 2005 novel A Slight Trick of the Mind and is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters).

Gay Short Film Showcase: The Grind – Take a look at the great short & help the filmmaker get to Cannes

April 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-grind-short-filmIt’s many filmmaker’s dream to be invited to Cannes, and that’s just what’s happened to one young American director which he’s still just a student, although there is a problem – he doesn’t have the cash to get to France. Therefore he’s set up a GoFundMe page with the hope of raising enough money to get him to the film festival screening in May.

It’s a great time then to take a look at the film he made, which was created for Campus Moviefest 2015 at the University of Central Florida, but has now found life outside that college. It takes a look at the world of online dating, with a young man chatting online and then heading off for a date with a guy he meets on an app. However with a thousand other men waiting to chat online, modern gay dating isn’t easy.

Take a look at the short below and if you reckon its director, Robert Doobay, ought to be able to go to Cannes, you can head to GoFundMe and help out.

To give you a bit more impetus, Doobay says, “I am incredibly passionate about making movies, and I am very excited for this opportunity. However, at this time in my life, I lack the financial faculties to fund this trip. Friends, family, and fellowmen, I need your support to help fund this life-changing journey. I implore you to help me achieve this life-changing milestone and donate to help me get to the Cannes Film Festival. Anything helps and is greatly appreciated.”

It Takeis Two: Episode 2 – George and Brad take on the ‘mean meme’ at Google HQ

April 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

it-takeis-two-ep2In the first episode of It Takeis Two, Brad Takei was very upset by a mean meme he found about himself on the Internet, and while George said there’s no point taking on the web, Brad wasn’t convinced.

As a result in Episode 2 they’re off to Google NYC HQ, where George is due to take part in a Hangout. However negotiating Google’s labyrinthine offices proves tough (Brad can’t even get the coffee machine to work), and then discovers a rather surprising artificial intelligence at the heart of things.

It’s a lot of fun and this is only the beginning, with George promising that the rest of the episodes will have surprise guests, lots of silliness and a few pranks.

Bryan Cranston Calls For An End To The ‘Silliness’ Of Opposing Marriage Equality

April 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bryan-cranstonThere’s a ot of momentum behind marriage equality in the US, but that has inevitably resulted in a harsh (and sometimes nastily petty) backlash from some conservatives, such as Indiana’s so-called ‘Religious Freedom’ laws, and the fact more anti-LGBT legislation has been proposed in Texas this year than ever before.

One man who doesn’t have any time for this is Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, who was caught by GLAAD on the red carpet of the premiere of Broadway’s Finding Neverland, where he was keen to say “I don’t understand why every person shouldn’t have the rights of any other person all the way down the line.”

He adds, “I’ve been a big supporter of gay rights for forever and I think it’s absurd that there’s still an issue about marriage. I mean, I think it’s insulting also to the gay community to have to constantly bring this up again and again. There are far more important issues to deal with. Let’s end this silliness, accept everyone for who they are and what they are, and embrace that and move on.”

He wasn’t the only one, as the likes of Ansel Elgort and Derek Hough also spoke of their support for marriage equality in GLAAD’s #GotYourBack campaign video, which you can take a look at below. [Read more…]

New Fantastic Four Trailer – A far better look at the superhero reboot

April 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fantastic-four-trailer20th Century Fox had a fairly late start marketing their reboot of Fantastic Four and when the first trailer arrived, it didn’t show us much. However now a new one has arrived and it gives us a much better look at the movie, including a proper look at The Thing, Doctor Doom and the heroes various powers.

It suggests a far less jokey take than the movies from a few years ago, but one that’s still fun.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.’

The movie is due out in August. [Read more…]

Such Good People (US DVD Review)

April 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Randy Harrison, Michael Urie, Scott Wolf, Ana Ortiz, Carrie Wiita
Director: Stewart Wade
Running Time: 97 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: March 14th 2015 (US)

One of the ‘barriers’ to having gay people in films is that a lot of the time filmmakers and producers feel there has to be a reason for a character to be gay (and to be honest, a lot of audience members aren’t much better). Unless they’re a very minor character or we’re supposed to be laughing at their campery, an LGBT character’s sexuality has to be intrinsic to the plot or they don’t exist – something that’s not demanded of straight characters.

It’s always good then when a film comes along where with a few nips and tucks the two main characters could have been straight, but they’re not, and the movie doesn’t try to de-gay them by essentially treating them as friends who say they’re in a relationship but show no signs of it. [Read more…]

Big Eyes (Blu-ray Review)

April 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, Danny Huston, Krysten Ritter, Terence Stamp
Director: Tim Burton
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: March 20th 2015 (UK)

Except for a few moments, Big Eyes is Tim Burton’s least Tim Burton-y movie for a long time. In fact it’s a relatively low key and straightforward affair which relies on the fact it’s got an interesting story to tell and knows that when you have actors like Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, it’s often best to just get out of their way and allow them to shine.

The film tells the true story of Margaret (Adams), who leaves her husband and heads for San Francisco with her young daughter where she hopes to make money from her art. That proves difficult, until she meets Walter Keane (Waltz), who also selling paintings and charms her with his stories of studying at a prestigious Parisian art school. [Read more…]

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Trailer – The Caped Crusader doesn’t care how hot Henry Cavill looks

April 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-trailer1Now here’s an interesting one. Coming a few days early due to a bootleg showing up online, the official teaser trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has now arrived, and it shows that the ‘v’ in Batman v Superman isn’t just for show, as the Caped Crusader doesn’t seem very happy with the Man Of Steel.

Indeed, a lot of people don’t like Superman, who is seen as a Messianic saviour by some, but as a False God by a lot more. It’s certainly an interesting set-up and suggests there’s going to be plenty of social metaphor in the movie.

You can take a look at the trailer below, complete with glowing eyed Ben Affleck Batman and Henry Cavil looking hotter than any man has a right to. The film is due out March 25, 2016. [Read more…]

Debra Messing Says The Only Thing She Regrets About Will & Grace Is That It Didn’t Last Longer

April 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Will-And-GraceLike it or loathe it, Will & Grace was an important series in terms of gay representation on the screen, which proved that the world could accept a show with gay lead characters and follow it for long enough that it would be a major success.

The series lasted eight seasons from 1998 to 2006. But what does Grace, aka Debra Messing, think is her biggest regret about the show?

Talking to Huffpo she says, “I guess I would change the fact that we stopped [the show] after eight years. It was such a happy time, and we were all really exhausted by that point and it was the right thing to do at that time, but now obviously time has passed, and I watch the show with my son who laughs at it and I think it would’ve been really great to do it a few more years.”

However regret is certainly not her abiding thought about the show. Indeed she’s very proud of the place of the series in terms of both entertainment and gay representation. She says, “Will & Grace came at a time when television didn’t know if it was okay to have a leading character be gay and be comfortable, and be portrayed as well-rounded and complete as the heterosexual characters we were used to seeing.

“Over the eight years it really did have a big impact… that is what I am most proud of. I am so glad that we made people laugh every week, but that people still say ‘your show helped me come out to my parents’, and ‘your show made me feel okay about who I was’… It’s something I’m proud of, and it’s great to see that now… of course there’s gay people on TV! There’s gay people in life, that’s just what life is.”
