Saint Laurent Trailer – Take a look at Gaspard Ulliel in 2014’s 2nd biopic of the gay fashion designer

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Saint-Laurent-Gaspard-Uriel-poster-slideThis year we’ve already has one biopic of Yves Saint Laurent, which arrived on DVD in the UK a couple of weeks ago (and you can read our review here). However that’s not the only one, as another, simply title Saint Laurent, is on its way, and the trailer has now arrived.

While Yves Saint Laurent starring Pierre Niney in the title role was an ‘official’ movie, backed by the fashion designer’s lover, Pierre Bergé, and using clothes from the vault of YSL, Saint Laurent is a more independent affair.

The film stars Gaspard Ulliel (Hannibal Rising) in the title role, with Jérémie Renier (In Bruges) as Bergé. The likes of Louis Garrel (The Dreamers), Lea Seydoux (Blue Is The Warmest Colour), and Helmut Berger also star.

The movie, which charts Saint Laurent’s rise to the top of the fashion world, recently premiered at Cannes and will be in cinemas later this year. Unfortunately the trailer is in French, but if you don’t speak the language you can bask in the style. [Read more…]

Space Station 76 Trailer – Matt Bomer gropes Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson goes bisexual

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

space-station-76-slideAfter its recent Outfest screening, the full trailer for Space Station 76 has arrived, and it looks like it might be a lot of fun. Out actor Jack Plotnick wrote and directed the movie, which has a great cast including Patrick Wilson, Matt Bomer and Live Tyler.

Described as being set in a 1970s version of the future, Liv Tyler plays a new assistant captain whose arrival causes tension amongst the crew, while Patrick Wilson is the bitter and suicidal captain (who is also bisexual). Bomer meanwhile is a technician with a robotic hand who is married to a manipulative woman, played by Marisa Coughlan. The likes of Jerry O’Connell, Justin Theroux and Matthew Morrison also star.

As you can see from the trailer below, it’s set in a 1970s version of the future.

Plotnick has previously said, “People think that the 1970s were about the discos and the free love, but in the suburbs you were left feeling, ‘Where’s the party?’ So the emotional story is what I felt in the ’70s. My parents weren’t happy together and they stuck it out for the kids. It’s an homage to them. And in one way, I think we’re like these solitary ships in space trying to connect.” [Read more…]

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Red Band Trailer – Adam Scott, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and co. get silly in the future

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hot-tub-time-machine-2-slideHot Tub Time Machine may not have been a gargantuan hit, but it did well enough that a sequel is on the way. John Cusack isn’t returning, but Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke are back, with the likes of Adam Scott and Jason Jones joining them.

The trailer debuted yesterday at Comic Con (it’s not the sort of film you’d expect for the San Diego event, but it apparently filled some time during the Paramount panel), and now you can see it here.

While the first film took the characters back to the 80s in the titular hot tub time machine, this time they’ll be going to the future. Because they did this they knew about the future and were able to change their lives – not always for the better. They also meet Adam Scott’s Adam, who’s the son of John Cusack’s character.

Take a look below. Expect the movie in cinemas at Christmas. [Read more…]

Daniel Radcliffle Gets The Horns In A New Poster, Plus The First Pics Of Rupert Friend In Hitman: Agent 47

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

horns-comic-con-posterWith the arrival of Comic Con a huge array of new pics and posters have arrived, many of which we’ve already posted. However there are always more and so above we’ve got a new poster for the Daniel Radcliffe movie Horns, along with a banner and the first pics from Hitman: Agent 47 below.

In Horns, ‘Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe) is accused for the violent rape and killing of his girlfriend, Merrin Williams (Juno Temple). After a hard night of drinking, Ig awakens, hungover, to find horns growing out of his head; they have the ability to drive people to confess sins and give in to selfish impulses. Ig decides to use this effective tool to discover the circumstances of his girlfriend’s death and to seek revenge by finding the true murderer.’ It’ll be in cinemas later this year.

Hitman: Agent 47 meanwhile is a reboot of the videogame-to-film franchise, with Rupert Friend taking over the role of the shaven-headed title character. He’s featured in all the pics (which arrived via IGN), while one also has Hannah Ware as Katia. Zachary Quinto also stars in the film, which will be in theatres early next year.

Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. & More Get Avengers: Age Of Ultron Gets Concept Art Posters

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

avengers-comic-con-poster1While many have their fingers crossed that the first footage from Avengers: Age Of Ultron will screen at Comic Con, ahead of the Marvel panel a set of great concept art posters has been released.

We don’t have all of them yet though, as it’s thought four more are due to be released. Eventually it will be possible to piece them all together into an image of a massive battle (you can see that complete pic so far below). That complete pic also confirms that the Avengers won’t be just up against a single Ultron, but a whole army of them.

So far we have Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow. It’s presumed we’ll get Hulk, Quicksilver and Hawkeye posters soon, with the final one either featuring Nick Fury or the main Ultron (who will be voiced by James Spader).

In the actual film it’s known that Ultron is sentient tech that Tony Stark builds in order to help save the world without the need for The Avengers. However as is always the way with sentient robots in films, he soon turns evil.

Take a look at the posters below (click on them for larger versions). [Read more…]

Marvel’s Ant-Man Gets A Rather Cool Concept Art Poster

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ant-Man-Comic-ConEdgar Wright may be out and Peyton Reed has come in to replace him, but it’s full steam ahead with Marvel’s Ant-Man. While it’s too early to show off footage at Comic Con, Marvel has taken the opportunity to release a rather cool concept art poster, which gives us our best look yet at the hero in his suit, along with Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas in the background.

The accompanying EW article lets us know, ‘That’s Paul Rudd taking on the central role of Scott Lang, a thief who, according to the comics, stole the technology behind the shrinking suit from the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym.

‘And there’s Michael Douglas, joining the Marvel universe as Pym, a scientist with Tony Stark-levels of ingenuity. He not only builds a miniaturizing mechanism, but also constructs a method of communicating with tiny creatures. (Better to have them on your side than trying to eat you.)

‘Although Lang only steals the suit to make it easier to lead a life of crime—it’s simple to sneak in and grab other things of value when you are microscopic—he inevitably follows a reluctant hero arc.’

The film is due out July 17th, 2015.

Ben Affleck Looks Grumpy In Fresh Pic Of Batman

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-vs-superman-ben-affleckZack Snyder has decided that Comic Con is a good opportunity to release a new pic of Ben Affleck as Batman. And if this is any evidence, it certainly doesn’t look like the move from Christian Bale to Affleck is going to result in a happier, friendlier Batman.

I can also foresee a problem with Affleck in the role for South Park fans, as the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture was the episode where it was revealed that Ben’s parents has asses instead of heads.

The only message that came along with Snyder’s tweeted pic was ‘#75’, which is likely to be a reference to Batman’s 75th Anniversary, which is being celebrated at various events at Comic Con.

The Warcraft Movie Gets A New Logo

July 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

warcraft-logoComic Con is underway, and while most of the interest is in films that will arrive in the coming year, Warcraft showed up during one of the Hall H panels to show off a brand new logo, which you can see above. However while we now have a logo, it doesn’t mean while get to see the film before its March 11, 2016 release.

That’s certainly a long post-production period, as the movie has already wrapped, but considering they have to create an entire fantasy realm – based on the incredibly popular computer game – around actors such as Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper, Clancy Brown and Callum Keith Rennie.

Presumably Warcraft will have more to show off at next year’s Comic Con, but until then we’ll have to make do with a logo.

Fifty Shades Of Grey Trailer – Jamie Dornan gets a bit kinky with Dakota Johnson

July 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fifty-shades-new-pic1-slideIt’s perhaps not surprising that the first trailer for the film version of Fifty Shades Of Grey isn’t too hot and heavy, although it certainly hints at all manner of kinkiness. Hopefully we’ll get a red band trailer soon which will show us just what sort of extremes the movie might go to.

Along with the trailer come five new images which you can see above and below, including a rather sexy shirtless shot of Jamie Dornan.

Here’s the new official synopsis: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey is the hotly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling book that has become a global phenomenon.  Since its release, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has been translated into 51 languages worldwide and sold more than 100 million copies in e-book and print—making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever.

‘Stepping into the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, who have become iconic to millions of readers, are Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.

‘Joining Dornan and Johnson in the cast are Luke Grimes as Elliot, Christian’s brother; Victor Rasuk as José, Anastasia’s close friend; Eloise Mumford as Kate, Anastasia’s best friend and roommate; Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Christian’s mother; Rita Ora as Mia, Christian’s sister; Max Martini as Taylor, Christian’s bodyguard; Callum Keith Rennie as Ray, Anastasia’s stepfather; Jennifer Ehle as Carla, Anastasia’s mother; and Dylan Neal as Bob, Carla’s husband.

‘Fifty Shades of Grey is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti alongside E L James, the creator of the series.  The screenplay for the film is by Kelly Marcel.

Nathan Lane Thinks Straight Actors Can Play Gay Roles If We Want Gay People To Play Straight

July 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nance-nathan-laneWhen there’s a major gay role in a film or TV show, there’s often grumbling if its played by a resolutely straight person. There are actually fairly complex arguments surrounding this – it’s not just a question of whether gay people ought to play gay roles, but whether the fact gay people are so often typecast into particular types of parts, that by casting a straight person you are both perpetuating the idea that having homosexuality on-screen is okay as long as it’s not ‘real’ and that you’re taking work away from gay actors who are often overlooked for major roles.

Conversely of course, fewer people believe in the principle that gay people shouldn’t be allowed to play straight roles, even if there’s still a perverse belief in some circles in Hollywood that audiences won’t believe a man-woman romance if they know one of the people is really gay.

Now Nathan Lane has weighed into the discussion while talking to TV critics earlier this week about PBS’ presentation of his Broadway play The Nance, he was asked about his thought on straight people playing gay. He said (via Salon.com), “We just had ‘The Normal Heart’ (with straight actor) Mark Ruffalo, fantastic job. I think who’s right for the part and most talented” should be hired.

He adds that if actors had to stick to their own sexuality, “That way only madness lies… I wouldn’t have played Nathan Detroit or Max Bialystock” if he couldn’t play straight roles.

Lane won a Tony Award recently for The Nance, about a gay burlesque performer in 1930’s New York. It recently screened in US cinemas and will air on PBS in October.
