The Guest Teaser Trailer – Dan Stevens isn’t the perfect houseguest he seems

June 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Guest-pic1Dan Stevens was certainly looking good in the first pic above from The Guest that was released earlier this year. Now we get to see a bit more from the movie, which is the next film from the people behind You’re Next. Take a look at the first trailer below.

The movie was recently announced as the opening night movie of this year’s Frightfest in London this August (it first premiered at Sundance).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Still struggling over the loss of their oldest son, Caleb, to the war in Afghanistan, the Peterson family finds some solace when an unexpected visitor knocks on its door. David, a steely eyed and charismatic soldier who was recently discharged, is welcomed into their home when he comes to fulfill a promise he made to his fallen comrade. Siblings Anna and Luke are at first reluctant to accept David’s presence, but he soon wins them over by scoring kegs for Anna’s friends and roughing up some bullies from Luke’s school. Though he appears to be the perfect houseguest, a mysterious and sinister chain of events causes Anna to question whether David is actually whom he claims to be.’

The film should be in cinemas later this year. [Read more…]

Sam Raimi Is Going To The Outpost For An Afghanistan War Drama

June 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sam-raimiSam Raimi may be one of the top directors in Hollywood, but he doesn’t exactly overwhelm us with movies. Indeed he’s only helmed 13 movies since The Evil Dead in 1981. Since Oz The Great And Powerful he’s been mulling over various possibilities, and now he’s added one more, as Deadline reports he’s signed up to produce and possibly direct The Outpost.

The film will be an adaptation of Jake Tapper’s book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, which tells the real-life story of 53 American soldiers stationed at Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan. On the morning of October 3rd, 2009, they were attacked by over 400 Taliban fighter, but despite being heavily outnumbered, they managed to prevail.

Raimi will now oversee script development with writers Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) coming up with the actual screenplay.

The director commented, “The Outpost is an epic story of bravery, courage, and sacrifice of our men in uniform, and is absolutely a picture meant for the big screen. I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Director Frank Darabont Takes On Chris Hemsworth’s The Huntsman

June 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

frank-darabontShawshank Redemption’s Frank Darabont has been working in the world of TV for the past few years on the likes of The Walking Dead and Mob City. However now he may be heading back to the movies as TheWrap reports that Universal wants him to helm the follow-up to Snow White and the Huntsman.

Although TheWrap still calls it Snow White and the Huntsman 2, THR refers to it as a spin-off called The Huntsman. The film will revolve around Chris Hemsworth’s character from the first film, and while Kristen Stewart may pop up as Snow White, her role would be a minor one at best.

Stewart’s involvement in the sequel has been up in the air ever since it was revealed she’d been having an affair with the married director of the first movie, Rupert Sanders. Initially it seemed that while he was out she’d remain, and in December 2012 she confirmed that she was returning. However other reports suggested she wouldn’t. Now it appears at best she’ll get a cameo.

Darabont had been on a shortlist that also included Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) and Andres Muschietti (Mama), but Universal has now decided who they want. However it’s not clear when the film will shoot.

Scoot McNairy Up For Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

June 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

scoot-mcnairyEver since Monsters, Scoot McNairy has become an increasingly popular face for directors looking to fill important supporting roles, such as in Killing Them Softly, Argo, Non-Stop, 12 Years A Slave and the upcoming Gone Girl. Now he’s got a new role, as Deadline reports he’s signed up for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

However nobody at Warner Bros. has confirmed the casting and there’s no news on who he might be playing. That could mean the versatile McNairy is just joining to play a small side-role, but as little news has been released about the plot he could be a more major character. Some are speculating that the fact his casting was announced after a month of shooting has already taken place, means he could have a cameo in Batman v Superman, but will become more important in future DC movies such as Justice League.

McNairy joined Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman), Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Ray Fisher and Tao Okamoto.

Zack Snyder is directing from a script by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer. It’ll be in cinemas May 6th, 2016.

Tom Hanks Will Go To Ithaca To Help Meg Ryan’s Directorial Debut

June 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hanksOnce upon a time Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan were a seemingly surefire box office draw – in the likes of Joe Versus the Volcano, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail – but while Hanks is still on the a-list, Ryan isn’t seen on-screen all that much anymore. However she hasn’t gone completely Norma Desmond and is now planning her directorial debut, and according to THR, Hanks will make an appearance in the movie.

It sounds like he’s doing it as a small favour to his old co-star, as it will just be a cameo (he will also executive produce).

The film is based on William Saroyan’s 1943 novel The Human Comedy, about a 14-year-old telegraph bicycle messenger named Homer Macauley. He must take care of his widowed mother, his older sister and four-year-old brother Ulysses after his older brother is sent off to fight in World War II. As time goes by we see how war affects this family in California’s San Joaquin Valley through the messages Homer delivers, including one that will change his life forever.

Hanks will play Homer’s father, joining a cast that already includes Sam Shepard, Jack Quaid and Melanie Griffith. Ryan is directing from a script by Erik Jendresen.

Jack Reynor Wanted For Casey Affleck’s Josh Hamilton Biopic

June 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-reynor-750With Transformers: Age of Extinction opening in the US, Jack Reynor’s star is set to rise massively, and other filmmakers are already looking to him for other project. That includes director Casey Affleck, who Deadline says wants him for his untitled biopic of Josh Hamilton.

Casey Affleck has been working on the movie since 2012, with the film based on Hamilton’s book, Beyond Belief: Finding The Strength To Come Back, which chronicles the athletes comeback from a crack cocaine addiction to become one of baseball’s top players.

Josh Hamilton was the first player chosen in the 1999 Major League Baseball draft. However his addictions to alcohol and cocaine held him back, even getting to the point where he was hiding cocaine inside his baseball uniform. Eventually he was banned from baseball and kicked out by his wife. Aafter hitting rock bottom he ended cleaning toilets and mowing grass at a baseball facility to make ends meet.

He eventually started his road to recovery, petitioning the commissioner for one final chance. In 2007, he was signed by the Cincinatti Reds, but it wasn’t until he was traded to the Texas Rangers in 2008 that he began to blossom into one of the league’s best players. His rocky rise to stardom was highlighted by a record-breaking performance at the 2008 Home Run Derby, where hit hit 35 home runs, 28 in the first round alone. He went on to win the MVP Award in 2010, and he currently plays for the Los Angeles Angels.

It isn’t known when shooting might start.

neil-patrick-harris-autobiography-slideA couple of months ago we posted a story about Neil Patrick Harris announcing he was releasing an autobiography, and he’d be doing it in a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ style. Another Sex Abuse Case Linked To Bryan Singer’s Is Withdrawn, But His Legal Troubles May Not Be Over

June 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

garth-ancierWhen Michael Egan launched his sex abuse lawsuit against Bryan Singer, his lawyer Jerry Herman said it would be just the beginning, and further lawsuits would be filed as he claimed he was going to uncover the large scale abuse of underage men in Hollywood.

While further lawsuits were filed in Hawaii (due to an extension there of the statute of limitations) against TV exec Garth Ancier, former Disney TV president David Neuman and Broadway producer Gary Goddard, problems almost immediately arose. Evidence was uncovered where Egan had said under oath in a previous lawsuit that Neuman had never behaved inappropriately towards him. A few weeks later the case against Neuman was withdrawn.

Now Egan has dropped his case against Garth Ancier, according to THR. However neither Neuman or Ancier is completely out of the water, as shortly after dropping his case against Neuman in Hawaii, Egan filed another one in California, claiming he’d previously cleared the exec “under fear, threats, and duress.” That case was technically filed against ‘John Doe’, but it’s almost certain it’s targeting Neuman. However due to the statute of limitations in California and Egan’s previous statements, the new suit does have massive hurdles even being able to get to trial (indeed many wonder whether the ‘John Doe’ tactic is so Herman can try to get past the early obstacles, as it would be makes it more difficult for Neuman to stop him).

Herman also filed suits on behalf of Egan against three other John Doe defendants in California last week. The presumption is that Ancier is one of them (it’s too early to say is Singer and Goddard are the other two), and the lawsuit is part of Herman’s realisation it’s going to be very difficult to prove a case against any of the men in Hawaii, but may be more possible in California if he can get past the initial, admittedly massive, legal and procedural issues.

Ancier’s attorney commented, “We are pleased the case filed in Hawaii against Mr. Ancier has been dropped given it had no merit whatsoever. Mr. Ancier was undeserving of the stain to his reputation caused by the plaintiff’s reckless complaint, which was grounded in lies. We are equally confident that just as this case imploded when the facts became known, any further legal maneuvers or gimmicks will fail because unsupported statements, falsehoods and character smears have no place in any court.”

Fury Trailer – Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf & Logan Lerman man a tank

June 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

fury-uk-poster-slideYesterday the first poster for Fury arrived, and now it’s been followed by the trailer, which certainly suggest this will be a movie about men who are weary of war, even as they break in a newbie played by Logan Lerman.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.’

Shia LaBeouf, Michael Pena and Jon Bernthal also star with David Ayer directing.

It’ll be in UK cinemas October 24th 2014, with a November US release set. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Gives Us A Message From President Snow

June 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-mockingjay-district07-slideLionsgate is taking an interesting tack with the current marketing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. They aren’t actually mentioning the movie and instead taking us into the propaganda of the Capitol.

A few days ago we go a selection of posters where The Capitol ‘saluted’ the Districts, airbrushing out the misery with some very attractive models.

Now President Snow himself (aka Donald Sutherland) is here to make an address on Capitol TV, and he’s using Peeta to tell us Panem must stay ‘Together As One’, even if the young Hunger Games winner doesn’t look too happy about it.

You can also register for more Capitol TV updates at http://www.TheCapitol.PN. [Read more…]

Jason Sudeikis May Go On A Heist With Zach Galifianakis & Owen Wilson

June 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-SudeikisIt’s got a great cast even if it doesn’t have a name. The untitled film previously called Loomis Fargo already has Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Kristen Wiig attached to star, and now they may be joined by Jason Sudeikis, who is in talks to star.

The movie is loosely based on a true story about an armoured truck driver (Galifianakis) who is convinced to help participate in a $17 million robbery. However his partners are quick to turn on him once the job is done and leave him stranded in Mexico while they go off to live the high life. Then it’s time to settle the score.

Wilson is set to play the leader of the half-baked criminal, while Wiig will be Galifianakis’ love interest. It’s not clear who Sudeikis will be.

Assuming he signs on the dotted line, Jason will be on the film’s set when it starts shooting in July, with Jared Hess directing. (Source: Variety)

Will Poulter Joins Leonardo DiCaprio In The Revenant

June 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-poulterWith the likes of We’re The Millers and even Voyage Of The Dawn Treader Will Poulter has made a bit of a name for himself for comedy, however he’s now a BAFTA Rising Star winner and it seems he wants to stretch his acting wings a little, as Variety reports that he’s joined survival drama, The Revenant.

Leonardo DiCaprio is producing and starring in the film, which is based on Michael Punke’s novel, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge. DiCaprio will play Hugh Glass, a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear, left for dead and then robbed. When he survives against all odds, he sets out on a treacherous journey to exact revenge on his betrayers.

Tom Hardy was recently mentioned as a possible co-star, but he’s not mentioned in the Variety report.

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is set to direct the movie, which is due to shoot this Autumn.
