Horrible Bosses Director Seth Gordon Takes On Uncharted Videogame Adaptation

February 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seth-gordonThe idea of adapting the videogame franchise Uncharted has been doing the rounds of Hollywood for a long time, with the likes of David O. Russell and Neil Burger coming and going from the director’s chair. However now a new director may be able get things back on track, as Deadline reports Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon is in negotiations to direct.

The most recent draft of the screenplay was written by David Guggenheim. The studio liked it so much they’ve also hired him to write the action sequel Bad Boys 3. The likes of Cormac Wibberley, Marianne Wibberley, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have previously worked on the screenplay.

The Uncharted videogame follows a descendent of Sir Francis Drake, Nate Drake, a treasure hunter who thinks he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled golden city. As well as having to battle competing treasure seekers, he also has to do battle with mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis, who want to stop Nate getting to his goal. As the game was designed to feel like an Indiana Jones style big summer movie, it’s unsurprising Hollywood is thinks a film version might be a success.

No cast is currently attached (mark Wahlberg was previously attached but he’s no longer involved) but the studio hopes to start production sometime this year.

G.B.F. UK Trailer – Does everyone need a gay best friend in Darren Stein’s comedy?

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We enjoyed G.B.F. (Gay Best Friend) when we caught it at the Iris Prize Festival, and now Peccadillo Pictures is setting out to let the rest of the UK get a look at the comedy. It’s due in British cinemas on March 21st, on demand March 22nd and on DVD April 7th. But before then you can take a look at the new UK trailer, (which was initially released via DigitalSpy).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Meet Tanner (Michael J. Willett) and Brent (Paul Iacono). They are two gay best friends.  Brent longs for the spotlight and believes that coming out will make him instantly popular as this year’s must-have teen girl accessory; North Gateway High’s very first G.B.F. (or Gay Best Friend). Tanner on the other hand, would rather fly under the radar and finish high school without ever being noticed.

When things don’t go according to plan and Tanner is outed instead of Brent, the two boys go from B.F.Fs to instant frenemies. Enter the three most popular girls in school — queen-of-mean bombshell Fawcett, drama club diva Caprice, and sweet, Mormon good-girl ‘Shley, who launch an all-out social war to win Tanner’s status-enhancing friendship.

‘Featuring an all-star cast including Desperate Housewives’ Andrea Bowen, Will & Grace’s Megan Mullally, Orange Is The New Black’s Natasha Lyonne and Harry Potter’s Evanna Lynch. From the director of cult 90s teen movie JAWBREAKER comes this comic send-up of American high school clique culture in the vein of MEAN GIRLS and AMERICAN PIE’ [Read more…]

Not Looking – Drew Droege & Funny Or Die have a great time parodying Looking

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It was going to happen at some point – a good parody of the new gay-themed TV series Looking. The always entertaining Drew Droege has gotten in there with, ‘A trailer for the new, gay GIRLS. It’s not LOOKING, it’s NOT LOOKING.’

It certainly does a great job skewering some of things Looking has been criticised for, such as the pace and how pleased with itself it often seems, as well as a few lines of dialogue that some have found rather nauseating.

Not Looking does seem to have actually quite like the show it’s making fun of, but feels the need to point out its air of preciousness and occasional edge of shallowness. [Read more…]

Russia: Gay Men Beaten on Camera Short Documentary – The terrifying situation for LGBT people in Russia

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the Winter Olympics due to kick off in Sochi in a few days time, Human Rights Watch has released a short documentary to coincide with this, which uses shocking footage to show just how bad it is for LGBT people in Russia.

Along with eye-opening interviews with Russian LGBT activists, who give their thoughts on what it’s like on the ground, there are videos gathered from the Internet of neo-Nazi groups who set out to violently attack and/or kidnap gay people. They then film it and then upload the video online. As at least one of these videos proves, many victims believe they are about to be murdered.

While many us have heard about these videos – most of which are shot by groups who’ve become increasingly bold since Russia’s ‘gay propaganda’ ban came into force – it truly is shocking to see it. Take a look above. [Read more…]

Postman Pat: The Movie Trailer – The classic kid’s character goes CG and cinematic

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There were actually relatively few episodes of the original 1981 stop-motion TV series Postman Pat made, but it became immensely popular with kids, which resulted in endless re-runs as well as new series in the 1990s and 2000s.

It’s stayed in the public consciousness that mow a CGI movie is coming, and now we can get our first taste with the trailer.

The film sees the Greendale postman (and his cat Jess, of course) getting involved in an X Factor type programme, while looking far more sparkly and CG than he used to. Postman Pat: The Movie is released in UK cinemas on May 23rd and is voiced by actors including Stephen Mangan, David Tennant and Rupert Grint. [Read more…]

New Divergent Trailer – With the sequel already set to shoot in May

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lionsgate must have a lot of confidence on Divergent, as while it’s common to start developing sequels before the first film has been released, in this case they’re moving ahead enough that they’re already planning to shoot the follow-up, Insurgent, in May.

But before then we’ll get Divergent, and now the final trailer has been released. The movie is described as ‘a thrilling action-adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.’ The likes of Theo James, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and Jai Courtney also star.

Divergent will be out in March, with Insurgent planned for a year later, while a third movie, called Allegiant, is already dated for March 18, 2016. [Read more…]

Office Star B.J. Novak’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 Character Revealed

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bj-novakBFor a long time it’s been known that The Office star B.J. Novak was part of The Amazing Spider-man 2 cast, but everyone has been keeping quiet about exactly who he’ll play. However now it’s been revealed that he’ll be someone who could potentially have much bigger part to play in future films.

Director Marc Webb has let the world know Novak is playing Alistair Smythe. The character is the son of Spencer Smythe, who in the comics created the Spider-Slayer robots designed to hunt and kill Spider-Man. Alastair eventually took over from his father, becoming Ultimate Spider-Slayer.

Webb tweeted, ‘Almost shot ASM2 in B+W til @bjnovak’s (A. Smythe) promo for his excellent book ONE MORE THING beat me to it: http://t.co/axmFgum6fJ’

Novak has previously revealed that his character works at OsCorp. He also added that he only appears in a couple of scenes in the sequel. However it leaves plenty of potential for the sequels as the movies build to the Sinister Six set of villains, of which Ultimate Spider-Slayer could be a part.

Leonardo DiCaprio & Jonah Hill Reuniting For 1996 Olympic Bombing Movie

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

leonardo-dicaprio-jonah-hillLeonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill must have enjoyed working together on The Wolf Of Wall Street – with their Oscar nominations the icing on the cake – as Deadline reports that they are reuniting for a movie about 1996 Olympic bombing hero Richard Jewell.

20th Century Fox is backing the film, which will be based on the 1997 Vanity Fair article, ‘The Ballad Of Richard Jewell’, by Marie Brenner. Hill will play Jewell, while DiCaprio will be a Southern lawyer who helped guide the security guard through a hellish ordeal at a time when he should have been lauded.

On July 27, 1996, Jewell was working as a security guard at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Around 1am he noticed an unattended green backpack and alerted police to the situation while helping to clear the area. The bag contained a pipe bomb, which exploded killing one person and injuring 111 others.

Initially he was praised as a hero, with many suggesting his actions had ensured the death toll wasn’t much great. However a few days later the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published a story that revealed that the FBI considered him a suspect. It suggested that he fit the profile of the bomber and his actions were just a smokescreen deliberately designed to make him look like a hero.

He immediately became a pariah, with more than 10,000 reporters camped outside the small apartment he shared with his mother. Eventually he was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing, but he wasn’t officially exonerated by the FBI until October of 1996 (many have said they knew much earlier he wasn’t involved but were embarrassed to announce they’d got it wrong). By then his life and reputation were ruined. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 44 from natural causes.

DiCaprio will produce the movie through his Appian Way production company.

Man Of Steel Writer David S. Goyer Will Helm The Breach

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-s-goyerDavid S. Goyer has spent much of the past few years in superhero territory, co-writing Chris Nolan’s Batman movies, as well as the recent Man Of Steel and the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman. However he has also helmed the likes of Blade: Trinity and The Unborn.

Now he’s heading back behind the camera with the news that Lionsgate has acquired the rights to Patrick Lee’s 2009 novel The Breach, with Goyer attached to direct, according to THR. Justin Rhodes is writing the screenplay.

The book’s official description says, ‘Travis Chase, a man putting his life back together after fifteen years in prison, takes a solo hike into the Alaskan Rockies. He’s just looking for a quiet place to think about his future, but what he finds is trouble: a 747, downed in remote wilderness, the wreck impossibly undiscovered by authorities. Those aboard are dead, though not because of the crash. They’ve been shot.

‘This aircraft, along with the terrifying object it was transporting, is only the beginning for Travis. Within hours he finds himself at the center of a violent conflict that spans the globe, and a secret war that dates back three decades. A war for possession of radically advanced technology-that wasn’t created by human hands.”

Goyer first showed interest later last years but buying an option on the book. He took it to various studios last week, but while Warner Bros., Fox, Relativity Media and Millennium Entertainment showed interest, Lionsgate won out partly because they’re keen to fast-track the movie into production. There’s also potential for a franchise, as The Breach novel is followed by Ghost Country and Deep Sky.

Colton Haynes, Diego Boneta & Steven R. McQueen Lead New Abercombie & Fitch Campaign

February 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Abercombie & Fitch sure like hot young people, and recently they’ve been recruiting those heading up the ladder of fame for their campaigns. Their latest, ‘The Making Of A Star’, brings together the likes of Colton Haynes (Arrow, Teen Wolf), Christa B. Allen (Revenge), Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages), Kylie Bunbury (Twisted), Jazzlyn Marae (Nickelodeon star), Steven R. McQueen (The Vampire Diaries) and Debby Ryan (Disney Channel).

However it is slightly odd as while it’s difficult to find a pic on the internet of either Colton Haynes or Abercromibie & Fitch guys with their shirts on, here they’ve actually covered him up. I’m presuming it’s some sort of post-modern irony. Luckily Boneta and McQueen aren’t feeling as shy.

They’re all looking good though, so take a look at the videos released as part of the campaign, as well as some great images of the guys below (click on them for larger versions). [Read more…]
