Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore haven’t made a movie together for a while, but they’re setting that right with Blended, which has now released it’s first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren (Barrymore) and Jim (Sandler) agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week.

‘Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Gulfstream Pictures and Happy Madison Production, “Blended”, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and directed by “The Wedding Singer” director, Frank Coraci. In UK Cinemas May 23rd 2013’ [Read more…]

Joaquin Phoenix May Be Batman vs. Superman’s Villain

December 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joaquin-PhoenixIn the last few years Joaquin Phoenix hasn’t been part of many big Hollywood movies – although it’s not clear if that’s because he doesn’t want to or whether the major studios are a bit wary of him. However now he’s being eyed for one of the biggest, as Variety reports that he’s been offered the villain role in Warner’s Batman Vs. Superman.

It’s not been revealed exactly which character Phoenix would play, although after teases in Man Of Steel, many have assumed that Lex Luthor will be a big part of the film. Luthor may still be in the background though and Joaquin could be someone else from the Batman or Superman universes.

At the moment it’s not known if Phoenix will take the role, but if he does he’ll be going up against Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill during summer 2015.

Michael K. Williams & Zach Gilford Join The Purge 2

December 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zach-gilfordWith production due to kick off in a few weeks time and only Frank Grillo attached to star, The Purge 2 needs a cast. Now it’s getting one as Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez have all signed up to star.

No plot details have been revealed for the sequel, but it will likely have a similar setting to the first. The original was set in the neat future world where crime has almost been wiped out, except for a 12-hour period each year where absolutely everything is legal, including murder.

Michael K. Williams most recently appeared in drama Boardwalk Empire, while Carmen Ejogo starred in Salim Akil’s drama Sparkle. Zach Gilford is best known for his role in TV’s Friday Night Lights, while Kiele Sanchez has a role in David Twohy’s A Perfect Getaway.

James DeMonaco is directing from a script he also wrote. The film is due out June 20th, 2014.

Little Failure Book Trailer – James Franco goes gay once again

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Books may be for reading, but Gary Shteyngart decided that to promote his new memoir it’d be a good idea to film a trailer, so he got the likes of James Franco, Rashida Jones and Jonathan Franzen together to do just that. And as this is Franco, it’s little surprise that the actor is playing gay.

Franco plays Shteyngart’s husband, with the writer horrified to learn that his hubby is releasing a memoir, ’50 Shades Of Gary’ a week before him.

Here’s the description of the book from Amazon: ‘After three acclaimed novels, Gary Shteyngart turns to memoir in a candid, witty, deeply poignant account of his life so far. Shteyngart shares his American immigrant experience, moving back and forth through time and memory with self-deprecating humor, moving insights, and literary bravado. The result is a resonant story of family and belonging that feels epic and intimate and distinctly his own.’ [Read more…]

Taylor Kitsch Talks Learning About The AIDS Epidemic For The Normal Heart

Yesterday we posted the first very brief footage from the HBO TV movie, The Normal Heart, based on Larry Kramer’s acclaimed play about the early days of the AID epidemic in New York.

Now one of the film’s stars, Taylor Kitsch, has been talking about how it wasn’t just an acting challenge for him, but also a learning one, as before the movie he knew very little about AIDS in the 1980s.

When asked by Vulture, ‘So how did The Normal Heart stretch you?’, he answered: “I mean, look: I was born in ’81. I had no idea about the whole AIDS epidemic. I’m straight, and playing a gay guy who’s leading a double life, who’s still in the closet, who’s losing his lovers, who has AIDS but won’t admit it to himself, who ends up dying … I mean, where do you want to start? F–k me, dude. It’s insane. The body type, the fact that he works at Citibank, very high up on Wall Street, so learning that part of it and reading an insane amount of books about guys who were leading those kinds of lives, learning about AZT and where it started … I knew probably the surface stuff, but what I learned for this, the education I got, that was another great tool.”

The Normal Heart, which also stars Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons and Jonathan Groff, will screen next May (TBC) on HBO.

A Storm Is Brewing In A New Amazing Spider-Man 2 Teaser Poster

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-poster4
The Amazing Spider-man 2 is hoping to make a huge splash when it’s released next May, and in order to make sure everyone knows it’s coming, the hype has already started. After a trailer arrived a couple of weeks ago, now we have a new poster, which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

‘It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.’

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dostoyevsky’s tale isabout a Russian government clerk whose life unravels when what he believes is a doppelganger of himself – who has the same name and history – begins working in his office. The film hasbeen described as ‘Fight Club for bureaucrats’. Grand Piano Trailer – Elijah Wood had better not stop playing!

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Grand Piano is a rather intriguing proposition – not least that it’s been described as ‘Speed at a piano’.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Forced into early retirement because of crippling stage fright, Wood is a piano virtuoso who returns to the stage where the recital turns deadly and he is forced to literally play for his life in the tense and twisted psychological thriller.’ Apparently if he doesn’t give the performance of a lifetime, someone will kill him and his wife.

Agora’s Eugenio Mira directs, with a release set for early next year. [Read more…]

Sofia Coppola To Helm The Gay-Themed AIDS Drama Fairyland

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sofia-CoppolaFollowing The Bling Ring, it seems Sofia Coppola has decided on her next project, as ScreenDaily reports that her father’s company, American Zoetrope, has acquired the film rights to Alysia Abbott’s critically acclaimed memoir, Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father. Sofia and her brother Roman Coppola will produce the film, with the Lost In Translation director and Andrew Durham co-writing the screenplay.

Praised by Alexandra Styron in The New York Times as “a daughter’s compassionate, clear-eyed reckoning with the truths that defined her singular girlhood,” Fairyland is a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s vibrant cultural scene in the 1970s and ’80s, both before and after the AIDS epidemic, a crisis that would later claim the life of Abbott’s father, Steve Abbott, a widowed poet and gay activist. Tragically while Abbott fought for equal rights, he was eventually taken by AIDS himself.

Sofia Coppola commented, “I love the book Fairyland; it’s a sweet and unique love story of a girl and her dad, both growing up together in 1970’s San Francisco. I think it will make an engaging and touching movie on a subject I’ve never seen before.”

Josh Gad To Star In Film Version Of Gilligan’s Island

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

josh-gadJosh Gad’s star has been on the rise with roles in Love & Other Drugs, Jobs and The Internship. Now he’s taking the step up to lead roles, as Deadline reports he’s set to star in a movie version of the classic US TV series, Gilligan’s Island.

The show isn’t particularly well known outside America, but it’s lived on there thanks to re-runs and pop culture references. It’s about a group of people who were supposed to be on a three hour cruise but who get shipwrecked and end up on a desert island. The 60s show ran for three seasons and starred Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale Jr as Skipper, Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer as Thurston and Lovey Howell, Dawn Wells as Mary Ann, and Tina Louise as Ginger.

It’s not clear who Gad will play, or indeed when the movie might shoot. However it’s being eyed as a star vehicle for the actor.

Divergent Director Neil Burger Won’t Return For Sequel

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

divergent-poster3Divergent may not hit cinemas until March, but the movie’s director, Neil Burger, won’t be back to helm the planned second part of Summit/Lionsgate’s sci-fi franchise, Insurgent, according to Variety. It’s not 100% clear why he won’t be returning, although Lionsgate has suggested it was Burger’s own decision.

While some are speculating the reason could be that the studio isn’t happy with his work so far on the first film, however it’s more likely that with Insurgent already set for release March 2015, Burger feels he doesn’t have time to do it justice.

Here’s Divergent’s synopsis: ‘Divergent is a thrilling action-adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.’ The likes of Theo James, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and Jai Courtney also star.

In addition to Divergent and Insurgent, Summit is planning a third movie, called Allegiant, on March 18, 2016.
