November 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

counselor-Michael-FassbenderThe Counselor may have flopped at the US box office, but Michael Fassbender is still hot property, and it’s not been revealed that he’s is in talks to star in Protagonist Pictures’ crime drama Trespass Against Us, which is being sold at the American Film Market, according to Variety.

The film is about the outlaw Cutler family, who have been robbing wealthy estates and taunting law enforcement for more than three generations. New Pics Emerge From The Set Of Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken

October 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

unbroken-pic3
Angelina Jolie’s second outing as a director, Unbroken, is now shooting, and to prove it a trio of pic from the set have been released, showing Jolie helming some rather damp action from the part of the movie that takes place on the ocean.

The press release accompanying the pics says, ‘Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

‘Director Jolie began shooting some of the most dramatic and challenging scenes on Wednesday, October 16, on location far out at sea in Moreton Bay, Australia, with Louis Zamperini (O’Connell) and his fellow airmen—Phil (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mac (Finn Wittrock)—having impossibly survived being adrift in the open Pacific for several weeks.

‘Working with cameras on a floating rig in choppy waters and braving the elements, with actors dieting for months to appear as depleted as their characters, Jolie completed a successful first day of a location shoot that promises to be rigorous and uniquely challenging…

‘Starring alongside O’Connell, Gleeson and Wittrock are Garrett Hedlund and John Magaro as fellow POWs who find an unexpected camaraderie during their internment, Alex Russell as Zamperini’s brother, Pete, and in his English-language feature debut, Japanese actor Miyavi as the brutal camp guard known only to the men as “The Bird.”’

The film will be out Christmas 2014 in the US and January 2015 in the UK.

Spike Lee May Be Spinning Gold With Justin Timberlake

October 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

spike-leeIn a few weeks we’ll get to see what Spike Lee’s take on Park Chan Wook’s Oldboy is like. However he’s already planning for the future, as THR reports he’s been approached to direct Spinning Gold, which has had Justin Timberlake attached to star and produce since 2011.

Spinning Gold is set to chronicle the life of Neil Bogart, who founded Casablanca Records in 1974 and is credited with discovering, launching and nurturing the careers of a generation of music superstars. KISS, Parliament, Donna Summer, and The Village People were just a few of the acts on the roster of Casablanca Records, whose sound and image would come to define 70s pop culture.

Neil’s son, Timothy Scott Bogart, is penning the script, and will also produce the film alongside his brother, Evan “Kidd” Bogart. There’s no info on when it might go in front of the cameras.

October 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Victor-RasukWith the jump from Charlie Hunnam to Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey in the film version of Fifty Shades Of Grey, shooting has had to be pushed back a few weeks until early December. That’s partly so they have more time to fill out the rest of the cast.

Now Victor Rasuk has become the latest to join the Fifty Shades of Grey cast, according to Deadline, signing on to play college student Jose, who ends up being Christian’s love rival.

In E.L. James novel, Jose is an amateur photographer, classmate and close friend of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). He’s keen to take their relationship to the next level. However, he finds himself competing for her affections with young billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), who draws Anastasia in with his twisted S&M games.

Jennifer Ehle is set to play Anastasia’s mother, with Luke Grimes as Christian’s brother, Elliot. Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing from an adapted screenplay by Kelly Marcel, Patrick Marber and Mark Bomback. It’ll be in cinemas next August.

Robert Zemeckis To Direct The Porcelain Rabbit Focussed Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

October 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-zemeckisSince Robert Zemeckis came back to the world of live-action with Flight, most of the movies he’s been attached to have had a rather adult feel, however he’s now signed up to helm and adaptation of Kate DiCamillo’s 2006 children’s novel, The Remarkable Journey of Edward Tulane, according to Variety.

The book follows the adventure of a china rabbit in the 1930s. The porcelain bunny is owned by a 10-year-old girl who loses him during a voyage on the Queen Mary. After that he time, under water, is tossed about in a storm, gets discovered by a fisherman’s wife, then becomes the property of a hobo and his dog, and onto a sick girl.

Jeff Stockwell will write the script.

It sounds like a good fit for Zemeckis, as it should given him a chance to flex his visual muscles and use special effects, while telling a family friendly tale that needs a grown-up touch to make it a success on the screen.

Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Takes On Pet Sematary

October 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pet-semataryFor quite a long time now there’s been talk of remaking Pet Sematary. However rather like the plot, the idea keeps dying and coming back to life. Now it’s been revived once more with the news that director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intruders) is in talks to direct, according to Variety.

The first reports that a remake was in the works came in 2004, when Mike Werb and Michael Colleary (Face/Off) were attached to write the script. The idea resurfaced again in 2011 with a script from Matt Greenberg. The latest version sees Greenberg co-writing with David Kajganich.

The 1989 film, based on Stephen King’s novel, follows a family who moves in next to a cemetery, which they discover has a creepy past and seems to have the power to raise things from the dead – although they don’t come back quite like they were before.

There’s no news on when they hope to shoot this new version.

Bill Murray, Octavia Spencer & Jennifer Coolidge Wants To Say B.O.O.

October 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bill-MurrayOn Halloween DreamWorks Animation decided it was a good idea to reveal that Bill Murray will join  cast of B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations as villainous ghost, Addison Drake. Jennifer Coolidge, best known for her role as Stifler’s mom in American Pie, will play Carol Sue, a bubbly transitions-relations officer, the The Help’s Octavia Spencer will play the tough as nails Sr. B.O.O. officer, Captain Book, according to THR.

The trio join the previously announced Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy, Rashida Jones and Matthew Bomer.

Director Anthony Leondis commented on the new cast members, “Bill Murray is the perfect actor to bring this character to life – or should I say ‘after-life? Along with Jennifer and Octavia, this is a dream cast. I can’t imagine a team more capable of packing a funnier punch to this broadly comedic ghost story.”

The supernatural action comedy follows two bumbling ghosts who get into all sorts of trouble when they join the Bureau of Otherworldly Operations (B.O.O.) – the ghost world’s elite counter-haunting unit – and ultimately must face off against the planet’s greatest haunter.

The film is set to be released by Twentieth Century Fox on June 5, 2015.

Apropos Of Nothing: Model Thierry Pepin Has A Snake In/On His Underwear

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gregg-homme-shake-the-snake
Gregg Homme has created a rather sexy and quite fun new ad for their underwear, which doesn’t just feature model Thierry Pepin butt, but also some eye-catching snake undies, and the snake that apparently crawls into them to make them.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t how snake-print underwear actually comes into existence, but it’d be a lot hotter if it was. Take a look at the new advert below.

Beware though, as it’s a little bit NSFW – not too much, but your boss may be wondering what you’re watching if you view this in the office. [Read more…]

Silver Creek Short Film – Sweet flick helps raise money for LGBT youth charities

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

‘Silver Creek tells the tale of a young band of outsiders, isolated and teased in their community, who one day discover the magic of their own creativity and imagination. The kids find solace and support in their celebration, though the moment is short-lived, and others try to break them apart.

‘If viewers are moved by this short film’s message, they are encouraged to click the “TIP THIS VIDEO” button right below this text. The funds raised from this are not only a “tip” – they are the necessary resources that make the work done by the beneficiary charities, the Trevor Project and Rainbow Resource Centre possible. Both organizations do exceptional work with LGBTQ youth in crisis and offer supportive services that make a vital difference in young people’s lives.

‘In 2012 Salazar set out across Canada driving over 2600 Kilometers from Vancouver, British Columbia to the village of Angusville, Manitoba to create Silver Creek. Over the course of 2 weeks the people of Angusville embraced our little band and our project, letting us shut down main street for days on end, invade their backyards, and throw confetti literally everywhere.

‘We cast local actors and kids from around the region and many residents came out to be background actors. Every night our crew and the community broke bread together in the town hall. It was a profoundly unique experience for all involved. For two weeks a band of 50 odd people came together as a family, we lived together, and got to play together at making a film. This tight knit togetherness fit with the spirit of what our film was trying to convey. [Read more…]

Help Fund The New Gay-Themed Film From The Creators Of Is It Just Me?, eCupid and Steam Room Stories

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cinema 175 has created some great gay-themed entertainment in the last few years, including the web series Steam Room Stories and the rom-coms Is It Just Me? and eCupid. Now writer/director J.C. Calciano and the rest of the team want to complete their trilogy of romantic comedies as they’re seeking funding on IndieGoGo to help them make 10 Year Plan.

The film is described as ‘a funny, smart, romantic comedy with universal appeal. It’s the story of Myles and Brody – two friends who make a pact to be together if neither finds love in ten years time. Now it’s two month’s shy of their deadline, and both friends set off to do whatever it takes to avoid ending up as each other’s last resort.’

The cast includes Jack Turner (Myles), Michael Hamilton (Brody), Moronai Kanekoa (Richard), Teri Reeves (Diane), Adam Bucci (Hunter), Ben Palacios (Walter), Trevor Kuhn (Raul) and the incredible Debra Wilson as the Minister! The hope is that if the crowdfunding campaign can raise $25,000, it will mean everyone will get at least some pay for the 12-day shoot, as well as having some cash to bring in some known faces.

Filming should take place in November in December, with the movie reaching film festival in 2014.

If you’ve enjoyed any of Cinema 175’s previous efforts (and if you haven’t you should check them out), then head over to IndieGoGo to give a little cash. [Read more…]
