September 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hailee-steinfeldBetween her Oscar nominated performance in True Grit and now, no movies starring Hailee Steinfeld have been released. However she’s got loads coming soon, including Enders Game, Can a Song Save Your Life?, Romeo And Juliet, The Keeping Room, The Homesman and Three Days To Kill.

Now she’s it talks to add another, as she’s set to join Vince Vaughn in the action-comedy Term Life, according to Variety.

He then takes his daughter on the run, hoping to stay alive for the 21 days until the policy kicks in.

Cate Blanchett To Make Feature Directing Debut With The Dinner

September 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate-BlanchettCate Blanchett has directed several stage productions – indeed she’s co-artistic director of the Sydney Theater Company, alongside her husband, playwright Andrew Upton – and now she’s turning her directing skill to cinema, as Deadline reports she’s set to helms an adaptation of Herman Koch’s novel The Dinner. Oren Moverman (The Messenger, Rampart) is writing the adapted screenplay.

The novel’s official description says, ‘It’s a summer’s evening in Amsterdam, and two couples meet at a fashionable restaurant for dinner. Between mouthfuls of food and over the polite scrapings of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum of polite discourse — the banality of work, the triviality of the holidays. But behind the empty words, terrible things need to be said, and with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened.

‘Each couple has a fifteen-year-old son. The two boys are united by their accountability for a single horrific act; an act that has triggered a police investigation and shattered the comfortable, insulated worlds of their families. As the dinner reaches its culinary climax, the conversation finally touches on their children. As civility and friendship disintegrate, each couple show just how far they are prepared to go to protect those they love.’

It sounds rather small but intense. She may also star in the movie, but hasn’t decided on that yet.

Paul Walker Gets Shirtless For A New Davidoff Campaign

September 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

paul-walker-shirtless-davidoffPaul Walker is one of those actors who ought to be contractually obliged never to wear a shirt. Swiss luxury tobacco goods manufacturer Davidoff obviously feel the same, as for their Cool Water ‘Love the Ocean 2’ initiative in partnership with National Geographic, the first thing they did was send his to the beach and get him to show some skin.

We honestly can’t believe he celebrated his 40th birthday last week, as he doesn’t look much different to when he was making Pleasantville, Varsity Blues and she’s all that in the late 1990s.

He’ll be back next year in Fast & Furious 7, although perhaps before then we’ll get more shirtlessness from him for Davidoff (after all, he’s been fronting the fragrance for a couple of and pretty much everything they ask him to do involved showing off his chest).

First Pics Of Benedict Cumberbatch As The Gay Alan Turing On The Imitation Game Set

September 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

benedict-cumberbatch-imitation-game-set-pic2
A couple of days ago it was officially announced that the biopic of gay computer genius and codebreaker Alan Turing, The Imitation Game, has started shooting. Now the first pics of Benedict Cumberbatch on the set in the lead role have popped up online, which you can see above and below.

Turing is a pioneer of modern-day computing who is credited with helping crack the fiendish German codes, such as Enigma, during the Second World War. The film will chronicle the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park.

Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British Establishment, who prosecuted him for being gay and forced him to agree to be chemically castrated.

Tragically Turing admitted to the police he was gay while reporting a robbery, believing they would protect him and catch those who’d stolen from him. Instead it was him who found himself in court. After he was convicted he was shunned by the establishment and despite he incredible mind he found himself pushed to the sideline. He committed suicide (although some say it was an accident) not too long afterwards.

Cumberbatch stars alongside Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, Allen Leech and Matthew Beard. (Source: Buzzfeed)

Robert Redford Says Discriminating Against Gays Is ‘Un-American’

September 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-redfordRobert Redford has stepped up to say he supports gay marriage and wants it to be legal in Utah, where he holds his annual Sundance Film Festival. That may be an uphill battle, as it’s the stronghold of the Mormon Church, which may not be as rabidly anti-gay as it once was, but still isn’t a fan of anything homosexual.

At at an event for Equality Utah, the state’s largest LGBT advocacy group, he said, “I’m here for the same reason you are – equal rights for all. Like you, I believe there’s no place in our world for discrimination. None.”

“I think it is un-American’ he added. “If we change discriminatory laws in Utah, it sets a benchmark for people in other states; it allows people to see what can be done… Utah is changing. There are good people in Utah. More people want to change the discriminatory laws than want to keep them. People should be able to marry whomever they love.’

It’s good to know the Butch Cassidy star is on out side, even if we’re not likely to see gay marriage in Utah for a few years yet. (Source: GayStarNews)

Adam Sandler May Be The Cobbler For Director Tom McCarthy

September 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adam-SandlerAdam Sandler is known for being a funny man, and while he’s dabbled of sort-of dramas, such as Punch Drunk Love, he’s mainly stuck with comedies. Now he’s in talks to make a fantasy drama for director Tom McCarthy, called The Cobbler, called THR.

Not much is known about the film, other than it’s set in the modern day and follows ‘a shoe man who has the ability to metaphysically step into the lives of the people whose shoes he repairs.’

McCarthy is best known for The Station Agent and The Visitor, and will start filming The Cobbler very soon, as Sandler wants to fit it in before moving on to Jason Reitman’s Men Women & Children (another less overtly comic venture for the actor).

Noah Baumbach Takes On Flawed Dogs For Dreamworks Animation

September 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

noah-baumbachNoah Baumbach made his name as a director with the indie likes of The Squid And The Whale, Margot At The Wedding, Greenberg and the recent Frances Ha. However now he’s planning something a little different, as Bleeding Cool reports that Baumbach has been secretly working on an adaptation of cartoonist and author Berkley Breathed’s Flawed Dogs book, The Shocking Raid on Westminster for DreamWorks Animation.

While it’s loosely based on that specific novel, the title will simply be Flawed Dogs. It won’t be a straightforward adaptation though, as Baumbach is apparently working in a few twists.

Here’s a description of the book: ‘Sam the Lion is actually a priceless dachshund, bred to be a show dog. More important, he is Heidy’s best friend—and she needs one like never before. Living with her reclusive uncle is hard, but Sam has a way of making her feel soft and whole. Until the day Sam is framed by the jealous poodle Cassius, and is cast out by Heidy’s uncle, alone on the wild streets, where he is roughed up by a world he was not bred for. Sporting a soup ladle for a leg, Sam befriends other abandoned dogs and journeys all the way to the Westminster Dog Show, where his plan for revenge on Cassius takes an unexpected turn when he and Heidy spot each other after years of being apart.’

Baumbach actually has some animation experience, as while he’s mainly directed in the indie realm, he co-wrote both Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Fantastic Mr. Fox. There’s no news on when Flawed Dogs might arrive in cinemas.

Natalie Portman & Jaimie Alexander Get New Thor: The Dark World Posters Arrive

September 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

thor-the-dark-world-poster7
Pretty much all the promotion for Thor: The Dark World has concentrated on the guys, from Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston to Anthony Hopkins and Christopher Eccleston. Now the ladies are getting a chance to shine, with new character posters featuring Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and Jaimie Alexander’s Sif.

Hopefully Portman’s going to get something worthwhile to do in the film, as all the promos, including this one, has presented her as a bit of a damsel in distress. Take a look at the new posters above and below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

‘Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962.’

The film’s out in the UK on October 30th and the US a week later.
