Jake Gyllenhaal Is Sexily Beardy For GQ Germany

September 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

jake-gyllenhaal-GQJake Gyllenhaal seems to love his beard. While he often has to shave it off for movie roles, in-between films he can’t help but grow a big, tufty face-bush. He’s certainly got one on the cover of Germany’s GQ Style, which you can see above, and another shot of it from inside the lag below.

We have to say, we rather like it, although the black and white pic below does rather make him look like a US Civil War soldier.

Gyllenhaal will next be seen (without beard, although Hugh Jackman’s allowed one) in prisoners, which is out later this month.

Zac Efron Gets Shirtless (And Lightly Hairy) For Neighbors

September 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zac-efron-shirtless-neighbors
The Zac Efron movie Townies recently became Neighbors, and they’ve follows up the title change with a new shot of Efron barbecuing, and as you’d hope for such hot work, he’s got his shirt off. We also couldn’t help but notice the usually clean-shaven actor is showing off a little pec hair, and we’re not going to complain.

In Neighbors, Seth Rogen plays a man who lives close to a fraternity house, which is led by the raucous Efron, and reaches a breaking point with their wild antics. Rose Byrne is the man’s wife, who’s the sensible adult in the relationship.

Dave Franco also stars as the vice president of the fraternity, who’s also Efron’s best friend. Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Lisa Kudrow round out the main cast.

The film will be in cinemas next year. Before them Efron will appear in Parkland, as a doctor working on a shot JFK. [Read more…]

Four Trailer – Take a look at the gay-themed festival hit, out soon in the US

September 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joshua Sanchez’s Four hits cinemas in the US on September 13th, and if the trailer above and the buzz coming out of festivals is anything to go by, it’ll be worth taking a look at. Based on a 1996 play by Christopher Shinn, the ensemble tale takes in several characters, concentrating on a guy who spends the evening hanging out with a young man who’s coming to terms with his sexuality.

Here’s the synopsis: In a nameless, suburban American town, the smell of barbeque fills the air as Fourth of July celebrations move from a hot summer day into night. Joe, a man who works hard and travels a lot, leaves his family behind for the holiday, citing a business trip. Abigayle, his precocious daughter, is left to tend to her ill mother and manage the house on her own, yet again. Seeking just enough attention to get her through another night of her lonely responsibilities, she turns to Dexter, a former high school basketball star whose best days are behind him.

‘And while Abigayle is out with Dexter, Joe is quietly spending time around town with June, a young man he met online who’s struggling to accept himself.  And for just this night, the small world that these four live in will become even smaller, though the freedom they experience has never been so dangerous, fleeting and honest.’ [Read more…]

September 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hammer-of-the-gods-eacBloody mayhem reigns supreme in this gritty and uniquely stylised Viking actioner. Viking and Saxon go head to head in a thrilling new feature starring up-and-comer Charlie Bewley (The Twilight Saga, Like Crazy, The Vampire Diaries). With a cast of veteran actors, rising stars and a story slick with bloodthirsty action and an unnerving twist, Hammer of the Gods is an action-packed treat that makes the players in Game Of Thrones look positively normal.

To celebrate the home entertainment release of Hammer of the Gods (eOne), we have a DVD copy signed by the star of the film – Charlie Bewley. Hammer of the Gods is out to own on DVD, BD and VOD from 2nd September onwards.

Steinar’s epic journey across terrifyingly hostile territory with his most trusted friends and warriors, gradually sees him emerge as the man his father wants him to be – the ruthless and unforgiving successor to the throne.

The Little Mermaid (Blu-ray)

Starring: Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniels Barnes, Pat Carroll, Buddy Hackett, Jason Marin
Director: Ron Clements, John Musker
Running Time: 83 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: September 2nd 2013

Through the tail end of the 70s and the early 80s, Disney Animation was floundering. Movies like Basil The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company and The Black Cauldron looked pretty but weren’t drawing in the crowds, largely because the company had lost its storytelling magic.

Then along came 1989’s The Little Mermaid, kicking off a remarkable run of critical, commercial and audience success that included Beauty & The Beast, The Lion King and Aladdin. While Disney Animation is perhaps most often thought of for its fairy tale movies, this was actually the first film the company had made based on a bona fide fairy story (this time one by Hans Christian Anderson) since Sleeping Beauty in 1959. They also threw a lot more money, time and effort at it than they had for years, even opening new studios to handle the artistic challenge, not least hand-drawing millions of bubble. [Read more…]

Hannibal – Season 1 (Blu-ray)

September 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, Mads Mikkelsen, Caroline Dhavernas
Director: Various
Running Time: 550 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: September 2nd 2013

When it was first announced that a TV series was in development based around Hannibal Lecter and the other characters from Thomas Harris Red Dragon, there was a lot of harrumphing that it was a travesty and doomed to failure. However the show has surprised many by being very good. It also makes quite a lot of smart moves, not least that despite being named after Lecter, it doesn’t blow its load and become the cannibal freak show – indeed, it’s never even mentioned he is a cannibal, adding a frisson of excitement to the meals he likes to cook for people. First Pics Of Colin Firth In Atom Egoyan’s Devil’s Knot

September 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

devils-knot-pic2
The Devil’s Knot is due to premier soon at TIFF, and ahead of that EW has debuted the first images from the movie, featuring Colin Firth looking very lawyerly in Atom Egoyan’s film.

The film is about the West Memphis 3, who were convicted of the murder of three young boys in Arkansas in the mid 90s. Even before they were convicted there were accusations of the investigation being bungled and the men being railroaded.

The youths were accused of murdering the boys in a Satanic ritual, with many suspecting they had just been caught up in a panic over Satanism that was sweeping the US (and other parts of the world) at the time, with the evidence made to fit what the prosecutors wanted it to, rather than what it did.

After years of campaigning, high-profile documentaries (particularly Paradise Lost and its sequel, which had a huge impact on the case), the three men were finally released – although it should be noted that it was part of a plea deal and they weren’t exonerated.

Along with Firth, the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Stephen Moyer, Dane DeHaan, Elia Kotease, Amy Ryan and Mireille Enos also star.

Palo Alto Trailer – James Franco’s stories go big screen

September 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Franco is a busy man. He’s acts, directs, creates art and also writes. Now some of his short stories are coming to film with Palo Alto, which stars Franco although this time he doesn’t direct. Instead those duties go to Gia Coppola (granddaughter of Francis Ford and niece of Sofia and Roman).

The film also stars Emma Roberts, Jack Kilmer (son of Val) and Nat Wolff in the tale.

Here’s the description of the movie from the Telluride festival, where it will premiere: ‘“I think pain only hurts if it’s prolonged,” says one of the half-smart, half-twisted teenagers who wander trance-like though writer-director Gia Coppola’s astonishingly assured debut film, which she adapted from a story collection by James Franco. Welcome to the Bizarro John Hughes world; this is a suburban-teen comedy gone all wrong. The kids know everything about sex, substances and suicide, but can’t begin to figure out how or what they feel. Emma Roberts leads an unforgettable cast that includes Franco, 17-year-old Jack Kilmer (his father Val plays a supporting role) and Colleen Camp. Autumn Durald’s moodily sensuous cinematography is a huge asset, and Ms. Coppola’s fluid and confident direction and spot-on insights make this one of the most arresting and persuasive depictions of 21st-century American teenage experience yet put on film.’

Russell Tovey Signs Up For Gay-Themed HBO Dramedy, Looking

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Russell-ToveyJust last May, Russell Tovey said it would have to be ‘something special’ for him to play a gay role, despite being gay himself. Well, now he’s found it as THR reports that he’s signed up for HBO’s gay-themed dramedy, Looking.

It’s not just Tovey’s first gay proper role, but also his first big American gig, so it really could be a game-changer for the Being Human and Tower Block star.

He joins the likes of Jonathan Groff in the series, playing ‘the recurring role of Kevin, an accomplished video game wunderkind who has achieved financial and critical success at a young age.’ The gay Kevin works closely with Groff’s Patrick.

Frankie Alvarez is also onboard for one of the main roles, playing Patrick’s best friend, Augustin, whose ego and feisty politics make it difficult for him to settle down with a boyfriend.

The show is said to be a mix of Tales From The City and Girls, following mainly gay men in San Francisco. Looking starts shooting in the next few weeks, although there’s no news yet on when it might air.

Back in May, Tovey told The Independent, “Every character I play is straight, which is unique,  my agent says, because it’s not really been done before that someone who is completely out is able to play straight roles…. So for me to play gay it has to be something special, because it might actually be more of a risk. So I’m waiting for that role – I want it to be something that moves things forward.” Now he’s got it.

Kurt Russell May Join Paul Walker & Co. In Fast & Furious 7

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kurt-russellUniversal is keen to get the cameras rolling on Fast & Furious 7 as quickly as possible, in the hope they can get it in cinemas next summer. However before then there are some new cast members to add.

Tony Jaa signed up a couple of days ago, and now one of the other roles has gone, as Variety reports that Kurt Russell is in talks for the film. There’s no news on exactly who he will play. Jason Statham is on major villain duty, so it’s most likely Kurt will either be some sort of boss on the good guys’ side, or a hoary older petrolhead there to give the young guns a run for their money.

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson all return, with James Wan directing. It’ll be out July 2014.
