British Band Autoheart Has A Message For Anti-Gay Russia In Their New Music Video

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While the West has generally been moving towards greater acceptance of LGBT people both socially and legally, the same can’t be said of Russia. The country has become increasingly homophobic – just in the last few weeks Vladimir Putin has signed laws banning the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality and preventing foreign gay couple adopting children.

Everyone from the European Court Of Human Rights to Tilda Swinton has voiced concern over the direction Russia is taking, and now British band Autoheart have added their voice with a song called Moscow, which has a music video featuring Russian male soldiers kissing in front of the Kremlin.

They also released a statement saying, ‘We are lucky in Britain to have laws that mean whether we are gay, straight, bisexual or anything in between, our relationships are recognised and our rights protected by law. But in Russia there is an anti-gay crisis happening right now: their government does not want to afford their people those same rights and are trying to criminalise even the discussion of gay equality.

‘Something similar happened in Britain not long ago: Section 28, brought in by Thatcher’s Tory party in the Eighties to stop teachers from talking about same-sex relationships in a positive way, was only repealed in 2003.

‘These laws only serve to protect intolerance, ignorance, homophobia and hate crimes.

‘In our video, two gay Russian soldiers kiss in front of the Kremlin — yet just last month same a group of same-sex couples in Moscow were violently attacked and then arrested for doing just this.’

Take a look at the video above. [Read more…]

Zachary Quinto And Jonathan Groff Have Reportedly Split

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zachary-quinto-jonathan-groffMany had high hopes for Zachary Quinto and Jonathan Groff, partly because they made such a cute couple. However Perez Hilton is reporting that the Star Trek actor and the Glee star have split up, after nearly a year together.

Apparently things did “not end well” well between the pair, although there aren’t any more details. However the fact things didn’t end smoothly doesn’t exactly mean a lot, as the same could be said of about 90% of relationships.

It appears they split a few weeks ago, which may be just as well, as Groff recently had to leave the set of the AIDS drama The Normal Heart to go and comfort his best friend Lea Michelle, who had been dating the sadly departed Cory Monteith. It’s certainly best not to have to handle a rocky relationship and a grieving friend at the same time.

Zach meanwhile has spent much of the last few months travelling the world promoting Star Trek Into Darkness. Perhaps the fact the busy actors can’t have had too much time to see one another put a strain on things.

We wish them both luck for the future.

New Rush Trailer – More F1 action with Chris Hemsworth & Daniel Bruhl

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There haven’t been that many movies about F1, partly because it’s not that popular in the US and so the rather myopic people in Hollywood don’t see it as a good box office bet.  They’ll make Nascar movies, despite the fact 90% of the world’s population knows nothing about that, but generally ignore the biggest motorsport competition in the world.

However Rush is bucking that trend, with Ron Howard directing and Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl set to star. Now we can get a fresh look at the film with a new trailer.

Set in the 1970s, Hemsworth plays James Hunt with Bruhl as Niki Lauda. Hunt was a dashing playboy with a wild social life, whose exploits off the track filled more column inches than what he did while racing. Lauda meanwhile was a quieter figure, but still an amazing and driven racer. Their rivalry became legendary.

Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer and Alexandra Maria Lara also star, with the film set for release in September. [Read more…]

The Girl Who Played With Fire Gets A New Screenwriter

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-pic1Before David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was released, the plan had been to make movies from Stieg Larsson’s other Millennium Trilogy novels as quickly as possible. However when it didn’t become a big hit, Sony slightly put the breaks on a sequel, hiring Steven Zaillian to write a script for The Girl Who Played With Fire, but with no rush to go into production.

Many has assumed that with little heard about the film for months, all hope had been lost of ever seeing the movie. But now ThePlaylist reports that Andrew Kevin Walker has been hired to rewrite Zaillian’s script. Walker is best known for writing Seven, and also worked with David Fincher on his now-dead take on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

Walker has apparently been working quietly on the project and is now nearly done with his draft. Of course, that doesn’t mean Sony is immediately going to give the movie the greenlight, especially as David Fincher is now busy putting together Gone Girl, while Daniel Craig is on Broadway from October to January, and will also be shooting the next Bond movie next year, which means it’ll be a few years before we see a Dragon Tattoo sequel if it does happen.

It still looks like The Girl Who Played With Fire is a long way from becoming a reality, but it’s certainly the best news we’ve had on the project for a long time.

Rodrigo Santoro Gets A 300: Rise Of An Empire Xerxes Poster

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

300-rise-of-an-empire-xerxes-poster
One of the few members of the original 300 cast to return for the follow-up, 300: Rise Of An Empire, is Rodrigo Santoro, who will once more play the nefarious Xerxes. In the run-up to the film’s appearance at Comic-Con, a poster featuring the villainous god-man has been released, which you can see above.

Rise Of An Empire sees Sullivan Stapleton as Themistokles, who tries to unite all of Greece in battle against the massive Persian army lead by Xerxes and the cunning Artemisia (Eva Green). As the poster suggest, Xerxes wants Athens to burn.

Noam Murro directs the movie, which was recently delayed from an August release to March 2014.

Ben Whishaw & Frank Dillane Up For In The Heart Of The Sea

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-whishawRon Howard is pulling together a pretty good cast for In The Heart Of The Sea, his planned movie based on the story that inspired Moby Dick. Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson are already onboard, and now TheWrap reports that Ben Whishaw and Frank Dillane are also likely to sign up.

Charles Leavitt wrote the script, adapted from Nathanial Philbrick’s non-fiction book of the same name. The story revolves around a Nantucket whaling ship that was destroyed by a sperm whale in 1820. Only eight crew members were rescued alive, after being lost at sea for 90 days – by which point they’d turned to cannibalism. Benjamin Walker will play first-time Captain, Pollard, with Hemsworth as his first mate, Owen Chase, and Murphy as the second mate.

Whishaw is in talks to play Herman Melville, who it appears will be part of a framing device, where Brendan Gleeson plays one of the aging survivors of the whaling disaster, who tells Herman what happened to them.

Dillane, who’s best known for play the young Voldemort in Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince, is set to play Coffin, an insubordinate crew member who’s also the cousin of Walker’s George Pollard.

The hope is to shoot the movie this September in order to fit the film into Hemsworth’s busy schedule.

Clint Eastwood Eyes Musical Theatre Stars For Jersey Boys Cast

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Vincent Piazza

Vincent Piazza

Clint Eastwood really wants to make a musical. When plans to make a new version of A Star Is Born were put on the back burner, he moved onto a film version of the Broadway hit, Jersey Boys. Now he’s eyeing a cast, with Variety reporting that he’s mainly looking at actors who may not be well known, but have a strong musical theatre background.

Frontrunners at the moment are John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Boardwalk Empire star Vincent Piazza for the musical biopic of Frankie Valli and his group The Four Seasons. No offers have gone out yet, but Young would play Valli, Bergen would be Bob Gaudio, Piazza is being eyed for Tommy Devito, while Lomenda would play Nick Massi.

All the actors except Piazza have appeared in the stage version of Jersey Boys, so they should certainly know what they’re doing.

Warner Bros has apparently okayed the actors, so offers will be going out soon.

David Fincher Eyes Rosamund Pike To Star Opposite Ben Affleck In Gone Girl

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rosamund-pikeA week or so ago we reported that Ben Affleck was circling the lead role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. Now he may have some company, as THR reports that Rosamund Pike is the director’s top choice for the female lead.

The film is based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, following the husband (Affleck) of a woman who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance. Pike is up to play the wife, who initially seems like a pretty average person, but things change as we learn more about her and her husband’s relationship.

Emily Blunt, Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron were apparently also in the running for the role, but at the moment Jack Reacher star Pike is the frontrunner.

Things are still coming together for Gone Girl, with the major sticking point at the moment being the budget. Fincher’s very particular style doesn’t tend to be cheap to achieve, so 20th Century Fox and New Regency are trying to find a budget where they can get a Fincher movie, but not giving him completely free reign to spend the Earth on the film. Hopefully it’ll all work out though.

Kick-Ass 2 Helmer Jeff Wadlow Is Going To Go Fast

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-wadlow

Last weekend the news came through that Kick-Ass 2 helmer Jeff Wadlow had signed up to write and possibly direct the planned X-Men spin-off X-Force. However he may fit in another movie before he goes mutant, as Deadline reports that he’s also signed on to helm Go Fast.

It’s essentially Fast & Furious but on the water, with the plot surrounding people racing about in speedboats. There’s not much news on the plot, but it appears it’ll be about the boats DEA agents to thwart drug smugglers. Rich Wilkes (xXx) came up with the script.

Wadlow’s certainly having a busy week, because as well as signing up for two new movies, he’s also heading to San Diego to introduce the cast of Kick-Ass 2 at Comic-Con. The fact he’s so in demand suggests Hollywood likes what he’s done with the unusual superhero movie, which bodes well for audiences when it arrives in cinemas soon.

Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke & John Hawkes May Go Up Everest

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

josh-brolinEverybody in Hollywood is gonna be going up Everest soon – or at least pretending to – with rivals project based on ill-fated assents of the mountain currently in the planning stages. Doug Liman is planning to direct one with Tom Hardy likely to star, while Baltasar Kormakur (2 Guns) is helming the other.

Now that latter one is filling out its cast. Deadline reports that Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke are all in talks for the movie. Christian Bale was previously being courted for the film, but he’s no longer involved.

The movie is based on an infamous incident in 1996, and will follow two separate groups who tried to reach the summit of Mount Everest, but the whole thing ended in tragedy. There’s no news on who the actors would play, but Bale had been set to play Rob Hall, the leader of a New Zealand group of climbers, four of whom never returned from the mountain. The plan is to shoot the movie this autumn.

Liman’s Everest film meanwhile is about George Mallory, who may have been the first to reach the mountain’s summit in 1924, but who never made it back to reveal if he had made it to the top or not.

New Godzilla Comic-Con Poster Arrives Showing Us One Hell Of A Tail

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Godzilla-comic-con-poster
A couple of days ago we had a Mondo poster for Godzilla to help prepare us for the film’s presence at Comic-Con, and just to ensure we don’t forget, another teaser poster has now been released, giving us our first official look at part of the giant beastie.

And that’s one hell of a tale!

The movie, starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Sally Hawkins and Juliette Binoche, is said to be closer to the tone of the Japanese originals than Roland Emmerich’s 1990s movie. The Gareth Edwards directed film hits cinemas May 16th 2014.
