Chris Evans Is Looking Good In A Captain America: The Winter Soldier Portrait

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-chris-evans
Captain America has been given a slightly new look for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and we’ve got a great new look at it in the picture above (or at least the head part).

As always, Chris Evans is looking good all suited up for the movie, although I have to say, having your his sticking out of his costume probably isn’t the best idea if he doesn’t want them ripped off when battling all manner of supervillains.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier picks-up where The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

It’s due out April 4th 2014.

Henry Cavill Works Out Shirtless As Soldier Of Steel

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Man Of Steel may have had a budget of $225 million, but reports have suggested Warner Bros has already made most of that back via promotional partnerships worth a staggering $170 million. One of those is with the US National Guard, which seems to be wanting to recruit as many gay men as possible with a new Youtube promo featuring a shirtless Henry Cavill.

In the vid the Jersey born actor is allergic to shirts, which is good news for us, as we get to see his buff and rather hairy body.

Of course, Man Of Steel is in cinemas now, but enjoy the vid above! [Read more…]

Warm Bodies (DVD)

June 17, 2013 By Adrian Naik Leave a Comment

Starring: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Dave Franco, Rob Corddry
Director: Jonathan Levine
Running Time: 98 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: June 17th 2013

The zombie apocalypse has left the humans fighting against a horde of shambling corpses. R (Nicholas Hoult) is one of those zombies, except he’s beginning to wonder if there’s more to life than stumbling about groaning. When he ‘meets’ Julie (Teresa Palmer), a beautiful human survivor, R falls in love. He sets about trying to charm her, as best a rotting corpse can, and soon finds he’s undergoing more than just a change of heart.

The first zombie films had a message to deliver, the same is true here. But on top of this, Warm Bodies is refreshing, original, and one of the wittiest films you’ll find. [Read more…]

The Wolf of Wall Street Trailer – Leo DiCaprio gets charmingly smarmy in Scorsese’s movie

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Movies about people in the financial world don’t usually sound that much fun, and to be honest on paper that was true of The Wolf Of Wall Street, but as this trailer shows, it could be incredibly entertaining in its insanity.

The based-on-a-true-story movie is about Jordan Belfort’s meteoric rise, where he made making millions selling phony stocks before he was arrested and sentenced to 22 months in prison for securities fraud. Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Rob Reiner, and Jon Favreau also star.

Martin Scorsese directs from a screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, with a prime Oscar-bait release set for the end of the year.

And just because, take a look at a shirtless shot of Leo from the trailer below. [Read more…]

Killing Season Trailer – John Travolta faces off against Robert De Niro

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m not entirely sure what’s happened to John Travolta, but it looks like he’s got a case of Mickey Rourke plasticine face in this trailer for Killing Season. Even so it looks like the movie could be okay.

The movie is about two veterans of the Bosnian War, one American, one Serbian, who clash in the remote Rocky Mountain wilderness. Ford (De Nrio) is a former American soldier who fought on the front lines in Bosnia. He has retreated to a remote cabin in the woods, trying to escape painful memories of war. The drama begins when Kovac (Travolta), a former Serbian soldier, seeks Ford out, hoping to settle an old score. What follows is a cat-and-mouse game in which Ford and Kovac fight their own personal World War III, with battles both physical and psychological.

The movie is due out in the US on July 12th. [Read more…]

New Only God Forgives Trailer – Fresh look at the Ryan Gosling flick

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ryan Gosling and Drive director Nicolas Wining Refn have reunited for the upcoming Only God Forgives, which looks like it’s going to be as tense as their previous effort. Now we get a fresh look with a new trailer.

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

An August 2nd UK release is set, with the film reaching the US on July 19th. [Read more…]

Ray Winstone Up To Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Idris Elba In The Gunman

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ray-winstoneOn Friday we reported that Idris Elba is in talks to join Sean Penn and Javier Bardem in the thriller The Gunman. Now another Brit may sign up, as Deadline reports that Ray Winstone is likely to be part of the cast, as is Italian actress Jasmine Trinca.

The Gunman is based on a novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette. It follows an international operative (Penn) who is betrayed by his handlers and goes on the run. Winstone is set to play one of those handlers, who’s been Penn’s mentor up to that point. It isn’t known who Trinca will play.

No specifics have been released about Bardem’s role, although it’s presumed he’ll be the villain. Elba meanwhile is up to play a mysterious operative called Dupont, although it’s not clear if he’s working with or against Penn.

Pierre Morel (Taken) is set to direct from a script by Pete Travis. Shooting is slated to begin in Barcelona and other European locations later this month.

Vin Diesel Unveils Riddick Comic-Con Poster

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

riddick-comic-con-poster
Comic-Con is due to kick off pretty soon, with upcoming films, game and comics fighting to attention in the mad San Diego scrum. One that’s hoping for a bit of love is Riddick. To get us prepared, Vin Diesel has released a Comic-Con poster for the movie.

He also posted the message, ‘It’s been over decade, since I’ve been to Comic-Con… Grrr… The Furyan… P.s. First look at the 2013 Comic-Con, Riddick poster.’

It’s a moody image, but to be honest, it reminds us a bit too much of Hellboy.

The movie is due out this autumn.

Gary Oldman Set To Direct Flying Horse, With Ralph Fiennes & Benedict Cumberbatch Eyed To Star

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gary-oldmanGary Oldman got huge acclaim and two BAFTAs for his directorial debut, 1997’s Nil By Mouth, but since then he’s pretty much stuck to acting. Now he’s planning to helm another movie, as TheWrap reports that he’s set to direct a biopic about film pioneer Eadweard Muybridge, called Flying Horse.

It’s also said that he wants Ralph Fiennes and Benedict Cumberbatch to star, but no deals have been set in place yet.

Muybridge was a photographer who set out to settle a bet for California governor Leland Stanford in the early 1870s, over whether a horse ever had all four hooves off the ground while running at full gallop. Using an array of 12 cameras, each set to fire one after the other, he helped prove that horses did indeed have all feet off the floor, although not in the way most people had presumed.

These sequential photographs, often shown as a moving picture series in magic lantern shows, paved the way for the motion picture projector and the film industry as we know it. However, Eadweard Muybridge is also famous for murdering reputed theater critic Major Henry Larkyns, who was having an affair with his wife, Fiona.

The biopic will focus on the love triangle, with Ralph Fiennes being eyed to star as Eadweard Muybridge and Benedict Cumberbatch circling the Major Henry Larkyns role.

In addition to writing and directing, Gary Oldman may also play the smaller role of Dennis Spencer, the district attorney who defended Eadweard Muybridge in his murder trial. The current hop is to shoot next year, if financing comes together.

Man Of Steel Takes The June Record At The US Box Office

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

man-of-steel-promo-pic1Warner/DC executives must have been nervous in the last few weeks, as they’d spent over $225 million on Man Of Steel, with the hope it would kick off an entire DC universe. They’ll be breathing a sigh on release as the movie has taken $125 million in its first four days, which is a June record at the US box office.

It added another $71 million internationally, from only 24 other territories. Warner has been lacking major franchises since Harry Potter drew to a close, so it’s certainly good news for the studio.

This Is The End came second, taking $20.5 million over the weekend and $32.8 million since it opened last Wednesday. It’s certainly not a exceptional start, but it’s not bad on a weekend when it was up against Superman, and the modestly budgeted film should end up as a minor hit.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of June 14th-16th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Man Of Steel $113.0 $125.0
2 This Is The End $20.5 $32.8
3 Now You See Me $10.3 $80.0
4 Fast & Furious 6 $9.4 $219.5
5 The Purge $8,2 $51.8
6 The Internship $7.0 $30.9
7 Epic $6.0 $95.4
8 Star Trek Into Darkness $5.6 $210.4
9 After Earth $3.7 $54.2

The Fortune Teller, 50 Yrs of F**gotry in 5 Mins – Leo Herrara looks at gay history in montage

June 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The use of montage has a long history in cinema (it’s not just about showing Rocky working out as he prepares for a fight), and indeed many have used it as an artform in its own right. Artist Leo Herrara has now used montage to tell his version of 50 years of gay history via a series of interlocking clips.

Herrera writes of his film, ‘The story is told through the trance of The Fortune Teller (played by Stanley Frank) and created using archival and modern footage. The film is a documentary and time capsule, paying homage to psychedelic films of the 1960′s and the modern art of the YouTube Montage film. From Mapplethorpe to Lohanthony, Uganda to Burning Man, Vogue to Sissy Bounce, AIDS to The Berlin Patient, meticulously edited clips create a kaleidoscopic five-minute journey through more than 50 years of gay history…

‘The Fortune Teller is comprised of 50 years of imagery and footage. The 5-minute clip took six months to film and assemble, and is made up of 100 carefully selected clips. The style is a take on Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” video, or The Scissor Sister’s “Let’s Have a KiKi”. It also pays homage to some of our modern day gay “preachers,” such as Chris Crocker or Lohanthony, or Kid Fury, who, as we always have, developed ways to use technology to reach one another.’

You can find out more about the clips that make up the film here. [Read more…]

Ronny & I – Bryan Singer produced gay-themed flick, shot on a iPhone, seeks funding

June 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ronny & I certainly has some great backers, including Glee’s Jane Lynch and X-Men director Bryan Singer acting as executive producers. It’s also an interesting idea – a gay-themed, teen road trip short film, all shot on an iPhone 5.

Guy Shalem’s movie is already in the can and has already screened at Cannes – the first film shot on an iPhone to do so – but now it’s seeking $60,000 on IndieGoGo in order to further distribute and promote the movie (and also gain a bit of an online following). And if you give $8,000, you can even own the iPhone it was filmed on as one of the rewards!

The synopsis says, ‘Ronny & I is a true and personal story from director Guy Shalem. An indie film that is meant to inspire and capture the hearts of people. Through love and friendship, both characters discover something unique and more about the world around them.’

Bryan Singer commented, “I have followed Guy’s work for many years and this short film captures an incredible intimate feeling that is difficult to describe. I hope it gets the attention it deserves!”

Jane Lynch adds, “I am excited for everyone to experience this film. I am so proud of Guy’s latest collaboration, which movingly brings the story of his first love to the screen.”

Find out a bit more about the movie in the vid above and over at IndieGoGo. [Read more…]
