Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has started shooting, but it’s only now that it’s cast one of its lead actors, with the news, via Deadline, that William Fichtner has taken “a lead [role] with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.”
There’s no news on exactly what role that is, but with Alan Ritchson playing Raphael, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, and Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, along with Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, that leaves Casey Jones and Shredder as iconic Turtles characters. Fichtner’s a bit old for Jones, so it seems likely he’s playing the evil Shredder. It could turn out he’s playing some else, but that’s who we’d bet on at the moment.
Jonathan Liebesman is directing, with a June 6th, 2014 release date already set.
