William Fichtner Takes An ‘Iconic’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Role

May 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

William-FichtnerTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has started shooting, but it’s only now that it’s cast one of its lead actors, with the news, via Deadline, that William Fichtner has taken “a lead [role] with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.”

There’s no news on exactly what role that is, but with Alan Ritchson playing Raphael, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, and Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, along with Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, that leaves Casey Jones and Shredder as iconic Turtles characters. Fichtner’s a bit old for Jones, so it seems likely he’s playing the evil Shredder. It could turn out he’s playing some else, but that’s who we’d bet on at the moment.

Jonathan Liebesman is directing, with a June 6th, 2014 release date already set.

Will Joe Wright Direct Fifty Shades Of Grey?

May 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joe-wrightWhen Universal snapped up the rights to Fifty Shades Of Grey, they suggested they wanted to move forward quickly with the adaptation of the steamy BDSM romp. Kelly Marcell has been working on the script for a while, but it’s only now that the studio is closing in on a director.

Variety reports that while no deal has been made, Joe Wright is the man who’s currently in the frame to direct the movie version of EL James’ tome. While a bit of a departure from his period romps such as Anna Karenina, Atonement and Pride and Prejudice, he has a strong relationship with Universal and could be a good choice for the film.

It’s suggested the likes of Patty Jenkins, Bill Condon, Bennett Miller and Gus Van Sant were also considered, but Wright is the man the studio wants.

Once a deal is secured, the search will move from the director to finding actors to play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

The Maze Runner Concept Art Has The Glade Looking Pretty Epic

May 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maze-runner-concept-art
The Maze Runner is one of the young adult adaptations that’s rushing to fill the hole left by the end of Twilight, and on the evidence of the first piece of concept art that’s been released (via EW), it’s going to look pretty cool. It’s certainly an impressive looking stone labyrinth.

Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien will portray Thomas, who wakes up in a strange place known as The Glade, with no recollection of how he got there. He must work together with a group of teenagers, who also don’t remember how they ended up in there, to figure a way out – every morning a door opens and they attempt to figure out the riddle of the maze that lies beyond. Things get even more complex when the first girl (Kaye Scodelario) turns up in The Glade, with a message that could change everything.

Commenting on the image, “It was for me, really. I like writing images,” says director Wes Ball, who previously worked as a special effects designer. “I started daydreaming about what it’s like to be at those doors and looking up at those walls.”

Thomas Sangster, Will Poulter, Aml Ameen, and Kaya Scodelario are co-starring. A February 14th, 2014 release date has already set.

With Lone Ranger in cinemas in a few months time, it appears Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are starting to move their attention back to Pirates Of The Caribbean 5. Deadline reports that they’ve now narrowed down the list of those they’d like to direct down to Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman), and the duo of Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning (Kon-Tiki).

Fredrik Bond is currently said to be the favourite of Jerry Bruckheimer, although Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning’s names are being mentioned more often, with Rupert Sanders getting plenty of buzz as well. The studio is expected to make a final decision within the next few weeks, so that production can get under way in either late 2013 or early 2014.

Chatting With Joshua Tree Director Matthew Mishory About His Film & James Dean’s Sexuality

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matthew-mishory
Matthew Mishory’s movie, Joshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean, has been a big success on the film festival circuit. The movie looks at Dean when he was a young lad from Indiana on the cusp of stardom, exploring the opportunities and pressures that presents. It also doesn’t shy away from Dean’s sexuality, giving him the queer identity that many over the years have suggested he had.

We caught up with Mishory to talk about the film, ahead of its UK DVD release on May 13th. [Read more…]

Leonardo DiCaprio Talks Gay Marriage Support & The Great Gatsby

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Leonardo DiCaprio recently sat down with NewNowNext for a chat about his latest film, The Great Gatsby. Of course there’s plenty of chat about the movie, including its fashion and romance, but it was a rare opportunity for a gay specific site to have a chat with the actor, which led to a brief show of gay rights support from the actor when he congratulated the interviewer on his upcoming marriage.

Leo is a big supporter of LGBT equality, including donating thousands of dollars recently to GLAAD at their media awards.

The Great Gatsby arrives in US cinemas on May 10th and May 17th in the UK.

A New C-IN2 Underwear Advert Gets Too Hot For Facebook

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Facebook’s rules on suggestive content do seem to be a bit all over the place and selectively enforced, and one video that fell foul of their rules was a new advert for C-IN2 underwear.

There are certainly plenty of shots of beefy guys wearing just their skivvies – and some ladies wander round in their undies too – but to be honest, we’ve seen a lot worse on Facebook. It’s certainly a bit sexy, but there is a hell of a lot worse out there!

Take a look above and decided for yourself whether it should have been banned. [Read more…]

James Franco, Edward Norton and Zach Galifianakis Decide To Marry Men In A New Vid

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

James Franco, Edward Norton and Zach Galifianakis may spend most of their time being movie stars, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have time to fit in a fun web video if an idea takes their fancy.

They’ve teamed up with Andy Samberg and the rest of the Lonely Island crew for a vid which starts off as an episode of Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns web series, where Franco gets asked awkward questions about his penis. However it then breaks into a Spring Break Anthem where all the guys decide to marry one another!

Take a look above. [Read more…]

Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Lesbian Gets Klown Screenwriters

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

sacha-baron-cohen-brunoFor a while now, Sacha Baron Cohen has been planning a film that’s currently titled The Lesbian. Now the film is moving forward with the news, via Variety, that Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam have been hired to write the script. Cohen decided on them after becoming a fan of their movie, Klown.

The movie will be loosely based on the true story of Hong Kong billionaire Cecil Chao, who offered a hefty $65 million reward to any man who marries his daughter, even though she’s a lesbian who lives in France with her wife (and has even has the relationship blessed by a French church).

One of the more interesting things about the tale is that Cecil Chao has never even married himself, so it’s not like he’s an avid believer in the institution, it appears he just doesn’t want his offspring to be gay. It’s also known that despite the massive dowry, his daughter remains on good terms with him.

Sacha Baron Cohen is looking to play the billionaire father, so it’s likely there’ll be some racial changes from real life to the movie. Christensen and Hvam will be working from a treatment by Cohen and Art Hines.
