Fresh Looks At Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck & Jesse Eisenberg In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

July 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-pic2It feels like we’ve already had a lot of marketing for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, even though it’s not due out until March 2016. However Warner/DC has a lot riding on it, as they’re hoping that it will help launch a massive comic book universe to rival Marvel’s with nine further movies already planned over the next few year.

The latest look at the movie is via Empire, who’ve debuted some new pics giving us great looks at Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. You can see those pics below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.’ [Read more…]

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Trailer – Ben Affleck & Henry Cavill bring the dark & brooding

July 12, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-trailer-slideBatman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice decided Comic Con was a good time to unveil the first full length trailer, and to show us this is a film that plans to be dark, brooding, epic and seemingly pretty intense. Along with Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman, it also gives us a look at Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. Ben Affleck To Direct Solo Batman Movie With DC Comics’ Geoff Johns Co-writing

July 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleck-batman-first-picThis year’s Comic Con has been quieter on big movie news that usual, but one major bit of news concerns Warner/DC’s plans for a solo adventure for the rebooted Batman, which it’s been revealed that Ben Affleck won’t just star in, he’ll also direct.

Ben also plans to  co-write the movie alongside DC Comics’ chief creative officer Geoff Johns. Apparently the decision grew out of the shared creative vision Affleck and Johns found they had while on the set of Batman Vs. Superman. They’re already started work on a script.

It won’t be Affleck’s next directorial outing as he’s due to start shooting Live By Night in September. The solo adventure is unlikely to be in cinemas before 2019 at the earliest, by which time we’ll have seen how the Caped Crusader is affected by both Batman Vs Superman and the Justice League movies.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Trailer – The Caped Crusader doesn’t care how hot Henry Cavill looks

April 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-trailer1Now here’s an interesting one. Coming a few days early due to a bootleg showing up online, the official teaser trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has now arrived, and it shows that the ‘v’ in Batman v Superman isn’t just for show, as the Caped Crusader doesn’t seem very happy with the Man Of Steel.

Indeed, a lot of people don’t like Superman, who is seen as a Messianic saviour by some, but as a False God by a lot more. It’s certainly an interesting set-up and suggests there’s going to be plenty of social metaphor in the movie.

You can take a look at the trailer below, complete with glowing eyed Ben Affleck Batman and Henry Cavil looking hotter than any man has a right to. The film is due out March 25, 2016. [Read more…]

Why Did Matt Damon & Ben Affleck Cut A Gay Sex Scene From Good Will Hunting?

January 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleck-matt-damon-good-will-huntingThe finished version of Good Will Hunting wasn’t noted for its hot gay sex scenes, but that doesn’t mean they never existed! Indeed according to producer Harvey Weinstein, Matt Damon & Ben Affleck included one just to see who was paying attention.

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Weinstein told the host (via Mental Floss), “Everyone in Hollywood wanted Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and the film. In the meeting with them, I said ‘I only have one really big note on the script. About page 60, the two leads, both straight men, have a sex scene. What the hell is that?'”

It turns out though that it was included as a deliberate ploy, as the actors/writers told him, “That’s the scene we wrote to see if guys like you read the script, because every studio executive we went to hadn’t read it. You’re the only guy who brought it up, so you get the movie”.

Without any gay sex, the script went on to win Damon and Affleck the Best Original Screenplay Oscar, while the movie itself became a major hit, grossing over $200 million.

However I’m now kind of wishing I was a Hollywood executive, as I’d have told them I’d have made the movie, but only if they kept that scene in. Sure it wouldn’t have made any sense, but who the hell cares?

And just as an aside, isn’t it slightly disturbing how young Damon and Affleck look in the pic above?

David Fincher & Ben Affleck Set To Reunite For Strangers On A Train Remake

January 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gone-girl-slideDavid Fincher, Ben Affleck and writer Gillian Flynn must have had a great time working together on Gone Girl, as THR reports they’re reuniting for a new movie – a remake of the classic Strangers On A Train.

Hitchcock’s 1951 movie – which was based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel – starred Farley Granger as a pro-tennis player who meets a man on a train and they realise they may  have the perfect way to help one another – each wants another person dead, so if they kill each other’s victims it’ll make it far harder for the police to catch them.

However when the tennis player has second thoughts, he not only has to deal with being the number one suspect in the murder his fellow conspirator did commit, but also the fact the other man is mad and rather dangerous.

It’s suggested the new version will update the story somewhat, but Affleck will play someone loosely based on the tennis player. Flynn will write the script with Fincher down to direct. It’s not clear when it might shoot.

Anna Kendrick & J.K Simmons Up To Join Ben Affleck In The Accountant

November 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anna-kendrickJust over a month ago Ben Affleck signed up for the thriller The Accountant. Now he’s getting some company, as Variety reports that Anna Kendrick is in talks for the movie, while THR adds that J.K. Simmons may also come onboard.

The film is an action thriller about a mild-mannered accountant who also moonlights as a deadly assassin.

It’s near clear who either of the actors would play, and Kendrick is said to be a way off from signing on the dotted line for the movie at the moment.

Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) s set to direct from a script by Bill Dubuque. The cast should start firming up soon as the movie is due to go in front of the cameras in January.

Out Actor Ezra Miller Will Be The Big Screen Flash, Amongst Other Major DC Comics Movie Announcements

October 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ezra-miller-slideA few months ago Warner Bros announced release dates for a load of DC Comics movies, but other than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, it didn’t say exactly which superheroes would appear in which movies.

That’s now changed, with 10 films having been announced running up to 2020. So what are we getting?

  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
  • Suicide Squad (2016)
  • Wonder Woman (2017)
  • Justice League Part One (2017)
  • The Flash (2018)
  • Aquaman (2018)
  • Shazam (2019)
  • Justice League Part Two (2019)
  • Cyborg (2020)
  • Green Lantern (2020)

There’s also plenty of casting news, with confirmation that Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Ben Affleck will return for Justice League, while Gal Gadot will be in Wonder Woman’s shoe in a solo movie, and Jason Momoa will indeed be Aquaman.

On top of that, while Grant Gustin is playing Flash on the small screen, queer actor Ezra Miller (Perks Of Being A Wallfower) will take on the role on the big screen. Ray Fisher meanwhile will by Cyborg. The fact both those roles have already been cast strongly suggests we’ll be seeing them in Justice League and they may even pop up in Batman v Superman in one way or another.

If that weren’t enough, there are also likely to be standalone Batman and Superman movies, so Warner really is betting big on its comic book world and that it can find the same sort of success that Marvel has. Of course if the movies aren’t as successful as they hope, the plans they’ve announced may well change.

Ben Affleck May Be The Accountant In A New Action Thriller

October 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckA few years ago Ben Affleck’s acting career looked slightly dead on its feet, with most expecting he’d end up working mainly as a director. However thanks to the likes of Argo, The Town, Gone Girl and the upcoming Batman v Superman, he’s come back with a vengeance.

Now he’s in talks for a new role, as he could be The Accountant, according to Variety.

It’s not exactly the world’s most exciting title, but the movie is actually an action thriller about a mild-mannered accountant who also moonlights as a deadly assassin (and yes, that does make it sound like this is going to be a superhero movie without a superhero.

Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) is the top choice to direct, with Bill Dubuque (The Judge) writing the script.

It’s all a bit of a change, as it was initially being developed for Mel Gibson to direct and later Will Smith was set to star. Now Ben Affleck is interested, and hope to fit it in before he directs Live by Night, which will shoot next summer.

Gone Girl (Cinema Review)

October 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens
Director: David Fincher
Running Time: 149 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: October 3rd 2014

Want a nailbiting, edge-of-your-seat thriller perfect for those crisp autumn nights? David Fincher is your man. From Se7en to Zodiac he has proved he can crank up the tension to almost unbearable levels, and he knows exactly how to treat Gillian Flynn’s potboiler book. When the flaws and cracks start to appear it’s more Flynn’s fault than Fincher’s – she adapted her own screenplay so has no-one else to blame when the plot starts to develop holes bigger than a sponge. It’s been portrayed as the struggle between men and women, but actually it’s more subtle than that, and hits its stride when it is a look at the American class system. [Read more…]
