Helen Mirren May Go On The Hundred-Foot Journey For Director Lasse Hallstrom

helen-mirrenSome love Lasse Hallstrom’s brand of sweet (sometimes sickly) movie such as Safe Haven, The Cider House Rules and Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, while others hate them. Now he’s got a new one, with Deadline reporting that he’ll helm The Hundred Foot Journey for DreamWorks, based on Richard C. Morais’ 2010 novel.

It’s also suggested that Helen Mirren may take on one of the central roles, although she hasn’t signed up yet. She would play Madame Mallory, the owner of a three-Michelin-star restaurant in France. All is going well for her until Hassan Haji and his family movie from India to France and open up a Indian restaurant just 100 feet from Mallory’s restaurant.

The town adores this new addition to the culinary scene, which initially a war between the eating establishments, until Mallory relents and mentors Haji on his culinary trek, taking him to Paris.

If it all sounds a little like Chocolat-esque, it shouldn’t surprise you that Hallstrom also directed that movie.

New Red 2 Trailer – Plus Mary-Louise Parker gets a character poster

Red was a surprise success in 2010, attracting an older audience to an action film than would normally go to the multitude of young guy oriented flicks we get each year. Now a sequel is on its way and a new trailer is here, as well as a character poster featuring Mary-Louise Parker.

The likes of Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich are back, this time joined by the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins and David Thewlis.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process.’

New Monsters University Trailer – Sulley and Mike enrol in college

We’ve had a couple of teasers and trailers for Monsters University, but they’ve been rather light on plot. That’s been remedied with a brand new promo, which gives us a great feel for the film, with Mike and Sulley at university, but Mike having difficulty fitting in and convincing anybody that he should be a scarer.

On this evidence it looks like it’s going to be another winner from Pixar.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

‘Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame–inductee and award winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opens in U.K. cinemas on July 12, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select cinemas.’

Hitchcock (Cinema)

Anthony Hopkins gave some amazing performances in the 1980s and 1990s, but for the last decade or so it’s seemed like he’s simply turned up for his paycheque. However it turns that to get him to give a real performance you’ve got to give him a role where he doesn’t have much choice but to act. After all, Alfred Hitchcock is far too well known for Hopkins just to have coasted it. Thankfully he doesn’t, not just doing a dead-on impersonations of the master director, but creating a fully realised character in a way Toby Jones couldn’t quite manage in the recent, The Girl. Hitchcock Trailer – He’s just a man hiding in the corner with a camera, watching

The movies that are lining up for awards consideration are starting to make themselves known, and one of those is Hitchcock, Sacha Gervasi’s film with Anthony Hopkins in the title role. Helen Mirren and Scarlet Johansson also star. It’ll hit UK cinemas on February 8th, 2013.

Great New Poster For Hitchcock Debuts

Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock is one of the most intriguing films arriving in the next few months, with Anthony Hopkins as the great filmmaker, with the movie concentrating on the making of Psycho, and Hitchcock’s relationship with his wife Alma (Helen Mirren), who was a vital collaborator throughout his career.

While the world of film loves to make royal biopics, nearly all of them are historic, with even something like The King’s Speech causing some to wonder whether its subject matter is too close to the present to make it suitable for a movie (seriously, some people complained about that). It’s very unusual therefore for a mainstream royal biopic to take on the current royal family, especially concerning events that are in the recent past. The Queen does though and does it very well, winning Helen Mirren an Oscar in the process. Now the film is making its first appearance on Blu-ray, just in time for the monarch’s Diamond Jubilee.

Following the death of Princess Diana, the Queen (Mirren) and royal family attempt to deal with what they believe should be a private matter between themselves and the Spencer family. However as attacks from the media and public begin to grow, and with new PM Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) advising her, the Monarch slowly comes to realise that her apparent inaction is becoming a threat to her position. Catherine Zeta-Jones Joins Red 2, With The Original Team Returning

After Red turned into a decent sized hit, Summit Entertainment has been keen on a sequel, which is now moving forward with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-hun Lee added to the cast. The sequel also reunites Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, and Helen Mirren, according to Deadline.

Dean Parisot directs from a screenplay by Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber, who also wrote the script for the first movie. Red 2 brings back the team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe.

There’s no more details on the plot that that, or info on who Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-hun Lee might be playing. Rumours have also suggested Morgan Freeman may return too, even if those who’ve seen the first movie may be wondering how. The film is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2013.

Jessica Biel Joins Alfred Hitchcock & The Making of Psycho

It’s the closest Jessica Biel is likely to get to being in a film as good as Psycho, but the actress has joined Sacha Gervasi’s Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, according to Deadline, about the creation of the classic 60s chiller. Biel is playing the role of actress Vera Miles, who played Lila Crane in Psycho.

Earlier this month Scarlett Johansson signed on to play Janet Leigh, joining Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma. The film will follow every aspect of the creation of director Alfred Hitchcock’s famous thriller Psycho, based on Stephen Rebello’s book that goes behind-the-scenes on everything from the story’s original inspiration to the controversy surrounding the creation of the famous shower scene. It’s an interesting story, as most thought Hitchcock had gone nuts making a low budget, black and white movie in the much derided (at the time) horror genre, and he had to fight to get it made.

The movie will shoot later this year.
