Scott Speedman & Mireille Enos Join Queen of the Night

December 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Scott-SpeedmanMireille Enos and Scott Speedman have joined Ryan Reynolds in director Atom Egoyan’s dramatic new movie, the psychological thriller Queen of the Night, according to Deadline.

Reynolds will play a father who goes in search of his missing daughter. While the girl was eight at the time of her abduction, her dad gets new information about the case almost nine years later, which leads him to think his daughter is still alive.

Mireille Enos will be Reynolds wife, who always checks in with the police on her missing daughter’s birthday. She realises that disturbing memorabilia left at her workplace are clues leading to her daughter’s whereabouts. Speedman – who’s just got a lot more spare time to take the role as his TV series Last Resort has been cancelled – will play the cop assigned to the missing girl’s case.

Both of these actors are Egoyan veterans, as Enos recently worked with him on Devil’s Knot, while Speedman appears in the Canadian helmer’s Adoration. Atom Egoyan wrote the original screenplay with David Fraser, with plans to shoot early next year in Ontario.

The Croods looks like it could be a lot of fun. The Dreamworks Animation movie ‘is a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world’s first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed. Travelling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures – and their outlook is changed forever.’

Ryan Reynolds & Jon Favreau Teaming Up For Battle for Bonneville

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It appears Ryan Reynolds is hoping to team up with director Jon Favreau for the high-speed drama Battle for Bonneville, which New Regency is currently in final negotiations to acquire.

Iron Man helmer Favreau is currently busy prepping a film based on the musical Jersey Boys (and he has Magic Kingdom on the back-burner), and the current plan is for Favreau to helm Bonneville once that film is complete.

Dan Gilroy (Real Steel, The Bourne Legacy) wrote the screenplay based on the true story of half-brothers Art Arfons and Walt Afrons. The duo used to be fierce rivals on the race track, before teaming up to break the land speed record three times, using a jet-powered race car.

Ryan Reynolds and Jon Favreau will also produce alongside Mark Ciardi, Gordon Gray, Jonathon Komack Martin, and Jennifer Fox. (Source: Deadline)

Ryan Reynolds May Hear Voices In An Unusual Thriller

October 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ryan Reynolds is a very busy actor, but it appears he may have a gap in his schedule early next year, which he’s thinking about filling with the unusual movie, The Voices, which will be helmed by director Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis), according to Deadline.

The psychological thriller is about Jerry Hickfang (Ryan Reynolds), an odd man who works at a bathtub factory and is in love with a woman in the accounting department. When their relationship takes a violent turn for the worse, Jerry consults with his evil talking cat and his kind talking dog to get him out of this situation, which eventually leads to his salvation.

Michael R. Perry (Paranormal Activity 2) wrote the screenplay, which landed on the Black List of the best unproduced screenplays.

The Croods Teaser Trailer – First look at Dreamworks Animation’s caveman tale

October 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m not normally a big fan of Dreamworks Animation’s offering, but The Croods looks like it could be a charmer. The Croods is a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world’s first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed. Travelling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures — and their outlook is changed forever. Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman lead the voice cast, with a March 22nd, 2013 UK release set.

New Poster For Dreamworks’ Caveman Tale The Croods Debuts

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although a lot of what Dreamworks Animation produces doesn’t seem all that interesting (mainly being designed to hoover up cash from kids), The Croods looks like it could be a lot of fun. Now a new poster from the film has debuted. Nicolas Cage stars as Grug, the patriarch of a prehistoric family who are forced to leave their home behind after a devastating earthquake. As they journey to find a new place to live, they encounter an intriguing nomad (Ryan Reynolds), who Grug’s daughter (Emma Stone) falls for. Kirk De Micco (Space Chimps) and Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon) direct, with the film currently due to hit UK cinemas March 22nd, 2013.

Universal Plans Safe House Sequel, With Ryan Reynolds Possibly Returning

September 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While studios normally decide whether to develop a sequel fairly soon after a movie is released, it’s taken Universal a while to put a follow-up to Safe House into development. Now THR reports they’re moving forward with one.

David Guggenheim, who wrote the script for the first film while working as an editor at Us Weekly, is returning to pen as-yet-untitled sequel. Scott Stuber is also back as producer via his Universal-based Bluegrass Films.

Apparently Ryan Reynolds is open to returning as CIA agent Matt Weston, who in the first film got caught up trying to protect/take down accused traitor Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington). No deal has been made with Reynolds as yet, and there’s no news on the story for the sequel either. Universal apparently wants Washington involved in a follow-up as well, although those who’ve seen Safe House may be wondering how (if it’s a prequel, which is a possibility, it would be easier to explain).

Whether Daniel Espinosa will be back to direct is also unclear.

New Pic From Dreamworks Animation’s The Crood

August 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dreamworks Animation is going prehistoric with The Croods, which is due to hit cinemas next March 22nd. Now a new image from the film has emerged, via EW, which is billed as a first look, although we have had this poster before.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure from DreamWorks Animation that takes us back to the beginning – to a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious – a time when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the flora and fauna we know today hasn’t evolved yet. At the heart of this comedically chaotic world is the Crood family, led by Grug (Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage), an over-protective father who, like all dads, is doing all he can to hold his family together as the world around them changes at a dramatic pace.

‘Together with his wife (Catherine Keener), kids (Emma Stone and Clark Duke) and ornery mother-in-law (Cloris Leachman) in tow, Grug guides his family through this spectacular environment, full of amazing creatures, to find a new cave to call home. Along the way, they encounter Guy (Ryan Reynolds), an imaginative and resourceful newcomer who takes risks and wholeheartedly embraces the promise of tomorrow. Audiences will relate to the hilarious family antics as Guy helps the Croods navigate their way into the bright future.’

Ryan Reynolds May Join Queen Of The Night

August 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ryan Reynolds may be heading back to his native Canada to team up with director Atom Egoyan for the kidnap thriller Queen Of The Night, according to THR. The film is due to shoot next February.

Based on a screenplay by Egoyan and David Fraser, there aren’t too many story details, other than the fact that Reynolds will play the father of an abducted child.

While Ryan is best known for mainstream comedy and action, he has been trying to show there’s more to him than that, with the likes of Buried, Fireflies In The Garden and Definitely Maybe. Teaming up with The Sweet Hereafter’s Egoyan may be another attempt to show off his range.
