alice-through-character-poster2-slideA few days ago the first trailer for the sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass arrived, which has now been followed by these rather cool pics, which show us four returning characters alongside Sacha Baron Cohen’s villain new character, Time.

They’re all holding a device that is central to the plot, which you can find out a little more about in the synopsis:

Alice Through the Looking Glass Trailer – Back into Wonderland with Johnny Depp & Mia Wasikowska

November 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alice-through-the-looking-glass-trailer-slideEven Disney was surprised when Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland made over a billion dollars at the box office, but it ensured a sequel quickly went into pre-production. Although its taken longer than originally planned, Alice Through The Looking Glass is now on its way, and we have the first trailer to prove it.

Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves & Daniel Radcliffe Take On The Modern Ocean

November 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

daniel-radcliffe-what-ifNot many indie films can muster a starry cast like this, but The Moon Ocean has signed up Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves, Daniel Radcliffe, Chloe Grace Moretz, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Jeff Goldblum and Abraham Attah.

It’s certainly a step towards the mainstream for director Shane Carruth, who previously impressed many with Primer and Upstream Color.

THR reports that the film, ‘revolves around vengeance and the fierce competition for valuable shipping routes and priceless materials that converge in a spectacular battle on the rolling decks of behemoth cargo ships.’

It’s not clear what role the actors will play.

The Modern Ocean is currently looking for buyers at the American Film Market.

Dan Stevens Will Be Colossal Opposite Anne Hathaway In The Arthouse Monster Movie

October 26, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dan-stevensA while ago Anne Hathaway signed up to star in the arthouse monster movie Colossal, and now she’s got some company, as Variety reports that Dan Stevens has signed up to co-star.

Since Hathaway attached herself in May, the film has had a little trouble, with Japanese Godzilla studio, Toho, suing the makers over similarities to their property (not helped by comparisons the filmmakers themselves made). However now it seems to be moving forwards.

The film will see Hathaway as Gloria, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown. But when news reports surface that a giant lizard is destroying Seoul (which was previously Tokyo, so the makers do seem to be deliberately moving away from Godzilla), Gloria gradually comes to realize that she is strangely connected to these far-off events via the power of her mind. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.

Stevens will be the former boyfriend who ends up wanting her back.

Timecrimes and Open Windows director Nacho Vigalondo is set to direct the movie, which is already shooting.

The Intern (Cinema Review)

October 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Rene Russo, Anders Holm
Director: Nancy Meyers
Running Time: 121 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: October 2nd 2015 (UK)

I’ll come clean straight away, we have two problems here. In my humble opinion Nany Meyers’ The Holiday was a true low point in cinema, an absolutely wretched affair – lazy, clichéd, corny, utterly without charm and with dialled in performances. Problem 2 is the De Niro syndrome – what on earth happened to the actor who everyone agreed was the finest of his generation. Pacino has his many fans, but De Niro admirers simply mutter Raging Bull and that’s the argument won. So how has this man gone from that peak to decades, literally decades, of mediocre, middling dramas and simply unfunny comedies?

Actually there’s a third problem here, the film’s central idea, which has, in true Hollywood tradition, been done before, and very recently. It’s The Devil Wears Prada, but this time with Anne Hathaway in the Meryl Streep role, and De Niro in the junior position lately vacated by the over-promoted…Anne Hathaway! [Read more…]

The Intern Trailer – Anne Hathaway is Robert De Niro’s new boss

August 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-InternRobert De Niro is looking for a bit of a career change, or at least he is in The Intern, in which he stars opposite Anne Hathaway, Nat Wolff, Adam Devine, Rene Russo and Andrew Rannells.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In “The Intern,” De Niro stars as Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower who has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Hathaway).’

Nancy Meyers (The Holiday, Somethings Gotta Give, What Women Want) directs, with the film set for release in October. Take a look at the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Heath Ledger’s Homophobic Gay Uncle Inspired His Brokeback Mountain Character

July 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

brokeback-mountainHeath Ledger is probably best remembered as The Joker in The Dark Knight and as Ennis Del Mar in Brokeback Mountain. It’s 10 years since the latter movie debuted, and as part of their marriage equality special, Variety caught up with director Ang Lee and producer/writer James Schamus, to talk about the movie.

Perhaps the most interesting info to come from the chat, is what inspired Ledger’s performance as the quiet, completely closeted Ennis. Ang Lee says, “Heath came in and wanted to do it right away. He told me that he learned from one of his uncles, who is also a very macho, homophobic gay, much like Ennis, and also a rancher.”

Anne Hathaway meanwhile apparently auditioned while in costume for The Princess Diaries 2 – a far cry from the Midwest character she ultimately ended up playing in Brokeback.

Lee also talked about the difficulty he had shooting the sex scenes, saying, “I was pretty shy shooting sex scenes, so I designed a very complicated one-shot deal, with 13 points of focus. I made it technical so that no one would think about anything else except hitting their marks. Once we got past the first take, nobody was shy anymore. We tried to make it as real and compelling as possible, and they were very professional. Getting into the first take was hard, and it was the 13th take that I ended up using, which was the last take.”

It’s well worth reading the whole chat, which includes the fact Lee never thought it would be a big success. He comments, “I also thought it would be an arthouse film with a very small audience. I was nervous about the subject matter hitting the shopping mall, and I was surprised at its success. I think it has something to do with the fact that it’s a poignant love story.”
