The cast only started to come together about a week and a half ago, but with shooting starting next week, Michael Almereyda is having to pull together actors pretty quickly for his modern day take on Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. He’s doing pretty well as he’s already got Ethan Hawke, Ed Harris and Milla Jovovich.
Now it’s been revealed that Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Dakota Johnson (21 Jump Street) will join them on set when the film starts principal photography on August 19th in New York City.
Cymbeline unfolds as an epic battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled 21st century America. The press release describes it as being in the vein of ‘Sons of Anarchy and in the style of Romeo + Juliet, Cymbeline is a fresh take on a universal story of love, betrayal and revenge.’
Yelchin, will be playing Cloten, the son of the Queen (Jovovich) by a former husband and Johnson will play Imogen, the daughter of King Cymbeline (Harris) from a previous marriage.
A few months ago, Anton Yelchin signed up to star in 5 To 7. While it had been due to shoot in February, that’s slipped until after the actor has finished promoting Star Trek Into Darkness (which seems to have caused Diane Kruger to leave the film). Now a new start date in June has been set and so Anton needs some co-stars.
Variety reports that Glenn Close, Frank Langella, Berenice Marlohe, Lambert Wilson and Olivia Thirlby have signed up to appear in the movie.
Yelchin will play a young novelist living in New York who begins an affair with the wife of a French Diplomat (Marlohe). Lambert Wilson is set to play the cuckolded diplomat, Thirlby will be a New York book editor, while Langella and Close will play the novelist’s parents.
Victor Levin is directing the indie dramedy from his own script.
It’s been revealed that Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne are set to star alongside William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman in the music drama Rudderless, which will also mark Macy’s directorial debut.
Rudderless is described as a musical drama about the power of a parent’s love. When a grieving father in a downward spiral stumbles across a box of his deceased son’s original music, he forms a band, hoping to find peace in the wake of his tragic loss.
Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison adapted the screenplay from the original story they wrote with William H. Macy. Shooting will this April in Oklahoma.
People having affairs is usually more the preserve of drama and thriller than romantic comedies, but that’s what 5 To 7 is about, despite being designated as a rom-com. It’s been announced that Anton Yelchin and Diane Kruger have signed on to star in the film, which will be written and directed by Victor Levin.
Yelchin will play a young novelist living in New York who begins an affair with the wife of a French diplomat (Kruger). The makers of the movie suggest, “Cultures, world views, personal ethics and dietary preferences clash as love deepens, with remarkable results in this romantic comedy.”
Levin’s previous writing credits include the film Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!, and episodes of shows such as Mad Men, Mad About You and The Larry Sander’s Show However this will be his first feature film as a director. Production on the new film is planned for late February 2013. (Source: Variety)
It appears Anton Yelchin likes vampires, as after last year’s Fright Night he’s heading back into a film about the bloodsuckers, although this time with a more arthouse bent, as Deadline reports that he’s signed on to star in Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, a drama about the centuries-long romance between two star-crossed vampires.
When it was first announced, the movie was due to star Tilda Swinton, Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender in what Jarmusch describes as a “crypto-vampire love story”, following the centuries-long love story of two vampire lovers. Since then John Hurt has signed on and there have also been rumours Tom Hiddleston has stepped in to replace Fassbender.
However what isn’t certain is who will play the central vampiric lovers. Jarmusch is deliberately keeping quiet about his plans, but it certainly sound like something larger scale than he normally takes on.
Ah, young love. Like Crazy is the sort of film that will either have you reach for the sick bucket, or get you blubbing in the first 10 minutes due to the aching love on display. Anton Yelchin has been around since he was a little kid, but in the last few years he’s matured into quite a hot young man! He’s hitting UK cinemas this Friday (January 26th) in the romantic movie Like Crazy, so we thought we’d celebrate with a retrospective of pictures where he’s looking paricularly cute.
Yelchin has appeared in everything from Star Trek to Terminator: Salvation and in Like Crazy he’s Jacob. who falls in love with Anna (Felicty Jones) when they meet as students at an LA university. But Anna is British and ends up outstaying her student visa. After a visit home, she is unable to return to the United States. While fighting customs and immigration battles, Anna and Jacob must decide if their relationship is worth the distance and the hardship.

Way back in the dim and distant past of May 2011, Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen signed on to star in the drama Very Good Girls, from first time director Naomi Foner. The indie project now continues to slowly move forward, with Deadline reporting that Anton Yelchin has signed to co-star.
The screenplay, which was also written by Foner, is an updated version of the 1980 teen cult drama Little Darlings, and follows lifelong best friends who decide to spend their first summer out of high school trying to lose their virginity. They both end up falling for the same boy, who’ll be played by Anton Yelchin, which causes unforeseen problems in their own relationship.
Foner says, “The film deals with female sexuality and friendship in a way we haven’t seen before. These girls will be stunning young women in a couple of years, but they’ve struggled through high school with only each other. Most of us have been there. This is the summer where they finally get to touch real life.”
Very Good Girls will shoot this June in and around New York City, meaning Yelchin will have plenty of time to finish his role as Chekov in Star Trek 2 before then.
It may have taken them quite a while to get Star Trek 2 sorted, but things finally seem to be moving forwards on the movie, with JJ Abrams once more at the helm. Now it appears Abrams has decided who he wants as the villain, as Variety reports he’s met Benicio Del Toro about the role.
A formal offer has not been made to the actor, but Abrams and Del Toro have had a meeting and it is believed Paramount will issue the offer very soon. Abrams, who’s well known for being secretive, is said to be being so cagey about the villainous part, he wouldn’t even tell Benicio what it was when they met.
Shooting is scheduled to start in early 2012, with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin all expected to return.
