Parks & Recreation’s Aubrey Plaza Suggests That She Is Bisexual

July 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

aubrey-plazaA lot of people already know that Aubrey Plaza is great. It’s something she’s proved in the likes of Parks & Recreation, Scott Pilgrim, Safety Not Guaranteed, Playing It Cool and even Dirty Grandpa. Now she’s seems a little bit more awesome, as she’s suggested she is bisexual.

Talking to The Advocate, she says of the fact she knows some women have crushes on her, “Oh, yeah. I don’t mind. I know I have an androgynous thing going on, and there’s something masculine about my energy. Girls are into me — that’s no secret. Hey, I’m into them too. I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it.”

Plaza says she has long felt welcome in the world of LGBT and that it’s always been around her as, “I have a gay aunt and a gay uncle, and I grew up thinking that everyone had a gay aunt or uncle. My younger sister is a lesbian, so it’s just in my blood.” She adds that she also knows she has a bit of an LGBT following, saying, “I feel like I operate in an old-school way that only gays truly understand. So for me it’s the ultimate compliment. My tastes are like an older gay man’s, and I think that’s who I really am. Like, I grew up obsessed with Judy Garland, and I was also obsessed with how much she meant to her following.”

Plaza will be seen imminently in Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates.

Dirty Grandpa (Blu-ray Review)

May 22, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Zac Efron, Robert De Niro, Zoey Deutch, Aubrey Plaza, Jason Mantzoukas
Director: Dan Mazer
Running Time: 102 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 23rd 2016 (UK)

I suppose it’s a bit much to expect a film called Dirty Grandpa to be anything except dirty and about a grandpa. However, despite the fact he’s spent most of the past 20 years phoning it in, it’s difficult not to hold out hope that with Robert De Niro onboard it’s going to be more than just a series of slightly random gross-out jokes and comedy that’s more annoying than funny. Unfortunately, it isn’t.

Jason (Zac Efron) is an uptight lawyer, a week away from marrying an equally uptight woman. It’s also his grandmother’s funeral. He gets roped in to driving his grandfather, Dick (De Niro), to Florida for his annual vacation. However, once on the road, it becomes clear the 72-year-old isn’t intending for a couple of weeks of sun and shuffleboard while reminiscing about his late wife – he wants to get laid and party. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Red Band Trailer – Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Aubrey Plaza & Anna Kendrick cause mayhem

April 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mike-dave-need-wedding-dates-trailer-slideI didn’t think it was possible, but they’ve managed to make a trailer for a Zac Efron movie where he doesn’t take his shirt off at all! Instead it focuses on the comedy and the fact that along with Zac are the comedic talents of Adam Devine, Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick.

A new Red Band trailer has arrived, which ladles on the rudenes, so take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) place an online ad to find the perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves outsmarted and out-partied by the uncontrollable duo.’

The comedy will be in UK cinemas on August 10th. [Read more…]

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates Trailer – Zac Efron teams up with Adam Devine (and yes, takes his shirt off)

February 8, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mike-and-dave-need-wedding-dates-poster-slide2016 appears to be the year of Zac Efron comedies that don’t look all that good, but which hope to lure people in on the promise that he’s been in gym a lot of working out hard and will show us the results. We’ve already had Dirty Grandpa, and this summer will bring both Bad Neighbours 2 and Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates. The last of those now has a trailer.

And as expected, despite the presence of Efron, Adam Devine and the excellent Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick, it looks a bit naff. But even the poster shows there will be Efron nipples!

The movie will be in cinemas in August.

Dirty Grandpa Red Band Trailer – Zac Efron & Robert De Niro get a little bit naughty

November 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dirty-grandpa-red-band-slideA couple of weeks ago we had a trailer for Dirty Grandpa, but now the red band version is here to let us know that Robert De Niro is going to swear a lot in the finished movie, and that Zac Efron’s CGI undies from the first promo won’t be around in the final article.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jason Kelly [Zac Efron] is one week away from marrying his boss’s uber-controlling daughter, putting him on the fast track for a partnership at the law firm. However, when the straight-laced Jason is tricked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather, Dick [Robert De Niro], to Daytona for spring break, his pending nuptials are suddenly in jeopardy.

‘Between riotous frat parties, bar fights, and an epic night of karaoke, Dick is on a quest to live his life to the fullest and bring Jason along for the ride. Ultimately, on the wildest journey of their lives, “dirty” Grandpa and his uptight grandson discover they can learn from one another and form the bond they never had.’

The movie will be in UK cinemas on January 22nd.

Dirty Grandpa Trailer – Zac Efron gets buff & Robert De Niro, erm, doesn’t

October 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dirty-grandpa-slide1Robert De Niro is back in comedy territory, but this time he’s got a very good looking grandson, as Zac Efron co-stars in Dirty Grandpa.

Efron plays a young man who’s about to get married, but who following the death of his grandmother is tricked into driving his granddad (De Niro), a perverted former Army general, to Florida for spring break. It’s cross-generation odd couple time, as Efron’s character is uptight while De Niro likes to have fun and party.

I think you can probably already tell what direction the film is taking.

The first trailer has arrived, which actually tones down the movie a little, including adding CG underwear onto Efron at one point (previous set photos have shown he was really wearing skin-coloured ‘nude’ underpants so he should be more naked in the movie). [Read more…]

Playing It Cool (VoD Review)

March 2, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan, Topher Grace, Aubrey Plaza, Luke Wilson
Director: Justin Reardon
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 2nd 2015

It’s not often that a movie with this much star power doesn’t get a cinema release in the UK, but Playing It Cool has gone straight to VoD, despite the presence of Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan, Topher Grace, Aubrey Plaza, Luke Wilson, Patrick Warbuton, Matthew Morrison, Ioan Gruffudd, Ashley Tisdale, Anthony Mackie and Phillip Baker Hall, amongst others.

So is there something wrong with it? Well, there’s nothing really bad, but its problem is that it has a lot of ambition but doesn’t quite hit any of its marks. Even so it’s a surprise it hasn’t been in cinemas.

Chris Evans plays a screenwriter who has little interest in the romantic comedy script he’s been commissioned to write, largely because he’s not a big believer in love. With every relationship he’s had, he’s ended up telling the woman he doesn’t feel the same way she does, and he’s now essentially trying to avoid the whole thing. But then he meets Michelle Monaghan, and there’s definitely a connection. [Read more…]

Safety Not Guaranteed (DVD)

February 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Aubrey Plaza, Jake Johnson, Mark Duplass, Karan Soni
Director: Colin Trevorrow
Running Time: 82 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 24th 2014

Safety Not Guaranteed certainly acted as a great calling card for director Colin Trevorrow. His low-budget film got plenty of people in Hollywood interested in working with him, leading to rumours he was in talks to direct Star Wars Episode VII. He’s since been hired to write and helm the upcoming Jurassic World. It’s certainly a big jump from this film, which was made for less than a million dollars, and while it is technically sci-fi, for most of its running time it plays out as an indie rom com. Aubrey Plaza, Oliver Platt & Jeff Goldblum Join Mortdecai

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-goldblumJohnny Depp has been long been attached to star in Mortdecai for quite a while, and now he has some new company as Aubrey Plaza, Oliver Platt and Jeff Goldblum have all joined the cast of the action comedy. They’ve been announced partway through production, as the London shoot was wrapped and filming has now moved to Los Angeles.

Plaza, Platt and Goldblum join Depp, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany and Paul Whitehouse. David Koepp is directing the film from a screenplay by Eric Aronson.

The films sees debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist. He must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

New The To-Do List Red Band Trailer – Aubrey Plaza wants some sexual experience

June 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems The To Do List is following in the footsteps of Bridesmaids and wants to prove it’s not just the guys who can get gross-out, although this time things are more American Pie and wedding comedy.

Set in 1993, valedictorian Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza) wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to do list of all the “activities” she missed out on in high school. Quickly realizing that she’s way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends, older sister and burnt-out boss for their help and advice. If the group is going to complete the list by September they’ll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.

Maggie Carey’s film is due out July 26th in the US, with an October UK release currently planned.
