American Hustle (Blu-ray)

April 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner
Director: David O. Russell
Running Time: 139 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: April 28th 2014

American Hustle recently joined a select band of movies to get 10 Oscar nominations but not win a single award (although The Turning Point and Color Purple still hold the record with 11 noms and no wins). However the fact a film like this got 10 nods is a pretty impressive achievement on its own.

Christian Bale is Irving Rosenfeld, a small time hustler who finds his con man empire growing when he teams up with the smart and beautiful Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams). However things look like they’re going south after the FBI’s Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) fingers them. [Read more…]

Guardians of the Galaxy Featurette – Behind-the-scenes with Chris Pratt and co. on the Marvel adventure

April 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel has had a huge amount of success building its cinematic universe, but it’s taking a slightly bigger risk with Guardians Of The Galaxy, as few non-comic fans have heard of it. And as it’s not a directly tied into the other films, they’ve not been able to set it up in the likes of Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Therefore they’ve got a bigger job ensuring audiences are excited for the outer space movie, and one way they’ve tried to do that is including a short behind-the-scenes featurette in a recent episode of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the US.

Now that featurette has shown up online so everyone can see it.

Here’s the movie’s synopsis: ‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969). James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” releases in UK cinemas on August 1, 2014.’

Fifty Shades’ Luke Grimes Up For American Sniper

March 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Luke-GrimesLuke Grimes has recently been getting busy on the set of Fifty Shades of Grey, but that won’t be his only big movie of 2015, as he is in final talks to join American Sniper, which already has the likes of Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller and Jake McDorman attached to star.

The action movie is based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Cooper), a Texas native who racked up the most confirmed sniper kills of anyone in US military history.

However before he took the record, he was a rodeo cowboy. Tragically though, he was killed by a fellow veteran at a shooting range in February 2013 (it’s not clear if that will be included in the movie).

Grimes will play fellow SEAL team member Marc Lee.

Clint Eastwood is directing from a screenplay by Jason Dean Hall (Paranoia, Spread),.

Jake McDorman In Talks For American Sniper

March 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jake-mcdormanJake McDorman is a face many will recognise from the likes of Greek, the US Shameless and Live Free Or Die Hard, often seeming like he was about to break big but not yet getting there. Now he’s in talks for a big role, as he may join Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, starring alongside Bradley Cooper, Cory Hardrict and Sienna Miller are also attached.

The action movie is based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Cooper), a Texas native who racked up the most confirmed sniper kills of anyone in US military history. Tragically though, he was killed by a fellow veteran at a shooting range last February (it’s not clear if that will be included in the movie).

If he signs on, McDorman will be Ryan ‘Biggles’ Job, who was the sniper’s colleague during his time in the military. Several real Navy SEALS are also expected to co-star in the film, including Kyle’s really life friend, Kevin ‘Dauber’ Lacz.

Clint Eastwood is directing from a script provided by Jason Hall. Filming will start next month in Morocco.

Bradley Cooper Takes On The Witness Protection Program With American Blood

February 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bradley-cooper
Bradley Cooper seems to have become slightly obsessed with movies with the word ‘American’ in the title. He’s just come off the extremely successful American Hustle, he’s been trying to put together American Sniper, and now THR reports he’s signed up American Blood.

The film is based on an upcoming crime novel Ben Sanders, which centers on Marshall Grade (Bradley Cooper), a former NYPD cop who became a mob informant and is now part of the witness protection program in New Mexico. Despite the fact he’s supposed to be trying to maintain his anonymity, he gets involved in a missing person’s case.

The hope is that this can become a franchise, as Sanders it already planning a series of novels based around the character. At the moment the American Blood book isn’t even finished, but the idea and partially complete manuscript was enough to spark the interest of Warner Bros and another rival studio, along with several TV production companies.

Andrew Sodroski has already been hired to write the screenplay adaptation, with Bradley Cooper, John Lesher, Adam Kassan, Brendan Deenan and Pouya Shabazian set to produce. It’s not known when it will shoot, but as the novel isn’t due out until 2015, it’s likely to be a while.

Cooper will next be heard as Rocket Raccoon in Guardians Of The Galaxy, although we’re presuming he’ll be lobbying to get the title changed to Americans Of The Galaxy.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Poster, Plus Introductions To Chris Pratt’s Character & More

February 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the release of the trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy, now we get a poster along with a quartet of featurettes introducing us to the movie’s main characters – Vin Diesel’s Groot, Dave Bautista’s Drax, Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, and Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord.

It’s a smart idea as with few people outside comic fans known the Guardians, giving an early introduction to what to many may seem bizarre characters should help sort out any qualms. You can take a look at the character featurettes below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. First Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer – The Marvel movie is looking pretty cool & so is Chris Pratt

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Guardians Of The Galaxy was first announced, a few people were left scratching their heads. Most who weren’t comic fans had never heard of it, and when they found out it was set in space but featured a living tree and a talking raccoon, many were ready the pass it off as a major mistake on Marvel’s part. However now the first trailer is here and it’s looking really cool and as if it could be a lot of fun.

‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel has obviously learned a lot from their previous films, and seems to have smartly gone for an outer space look that’s grimy enough to be believable, while having plenty of humour to help keep the whole moving along. No we can’t wait to see the whole thing!

Take a look at the trailer above and some images from it below… [Read more…]

Chris Pratt & More In New Guardians Of The Galaxy Pics, Ahead Of The Imminent Trailer

February 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-pic2
Guardians Of The Galaxy is a big movie and as it’s based on a property few people outside comic fans know, it’s probably gonna need a lot of promotion. That’s started to kick into gear with the release of three new images from the Marvel movie, via USA Today, ahead a trailer that’s promised late Tuesday night US time.

It certainly looks pretty cool, although rather different to what we’ve seen from Marvel so (and certainly with a lot more CG characters). It also gives us a decent view of Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Peter Quill a.k.a. Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Drax The Destroyer (Dave Bautista).

The USA Today article tells us a bit about the movie, saying ‘[The Guardians’] stories converge in the space prison Kyln. After the characters break out, they venture to Knowhere (the severed head of a celestial being that serves as a hangout for aliens) and visit the weird menagerie of the Collector (Benicio Del Toro). They also have to avoid two villains, Ronan (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), who are in hot pursuit of Quill’s orb, which has the power to destroy the galaxy.’

The movie’s due out in August.
