Magic Mike Poster – The stars get their shirts off

June 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We are very excited about Magic Mike (as any site regulars will be well aware), and it’s only a few weeks until it hits cinemas in the UK on July 11th. Now Apple has debuted a new poster for the film, which is a little bit village people, and features Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Alex Pettyfer all with their shirts off.

Let’s just hope the movie is as sexy as the posters and trailers. Click on the pic above for a larger version.

Here’s the synopsis, ‘To a rebellious 19-year-old kid (Pettyfer) looking for independence from his family, Magic Mike (Tatum) seems like the perfect role model: he’s got a nice car, a nice apartment, and a seemingly endless supply of women. What’s his secret? He’s a male stripper, and when the kid dives headlong into Magic Mike’s world, his mad dancing skills and hunger for excitement make for an unforgettable summer…Sexy, funny and shocking, this film is a hedonistic thrill ride with a powerful undertow. A razor sharp cast – led by top liner Channing Tatum in a career-defining turn as the titular Magic Mike devours the up-to-the moment freight train of a script, and the result will be relentlessly entertaining and sure to be one of the most talked about films of the year…… and let’s not forget the price-of-admission dancing sequences…’

Haywire (DVD)

May 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Running Time: 88 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 21st, 2012

With a cast including Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender and Michael Douglas, alongside newcomer and MMA fighter Gina Carano – not to mention that it’s directed by Steven Soderbergh – you’d expect something pretty special from Haywire. Sadly though the film doesn’t live up to expectations, beyond a few very good fight scenes.

Carano plays Mallory Kane, a covert operative for hire who does the jobs governments and companies don’t want to admit any part of. After a mission to Barcelona she heads to Dublin for another job and soon realises something is amiss and that she’s suddenly a target herself. Knowing she’s been double-crossed, Mallory must use all her skills to stay one step ahead of those who are out to get her and work out exactly what’s going on. [Read more…]

New Magic Mike UK Trailer – Fresh look at the star-filled male stripper flick

May 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’ll be the first to admit we’ve become a bit obsessed with Magic Mike here at BGPS, but there’s been a lot of interest in Magic Mike, and not just for the prurient voyeurism of seeing the likes of Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello and Alex Pettyfer playing stripper. it’s also because it’s a rare case of Hollywood looking at men as sexual objects in a way that’s normally reserved for women. But let’s not get too sociological, as the intrigue is mainly about seeing actors gets their stripper on.

Here’s the synopsis, ‘To a rebellious 19-year-old kid (Pettyfer) looking for independence from his family, Magic Mike (Tatum) seems like the perfect role model: he’s got a nice car, a nice apartment, and a seemingly endless supply of women. Magic Mike Actors Strip For EW Cover – And Matthew McConaughey is down with the gays

May 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Magic Mike hitting the US on June 29th and the UK on July 13th, many a gay man and straight woman is already in paroxysms of excitement over the likes of Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Matthew McConaughey and Joe Manganiello getting their stripper on!

The boys have stripped down for the latest cover of EW, which you can see above. Hopefully it’ll satiate your desire for male celebrity flesh until the movie hits cinemas (or you can watch the Magic Mike trailer here)!

Matthew McConaughey has also been chatting to The Advocate, and telling them he’s more than happy with the attentions of gay men. When asked when he first realised he had a gay audience, he says “I know exactly when. It was about 1995, I go into a coffee shop on Santa Monica Boulevard, and the guy behind the counter has a picture of me from Boys on the Side (pictured) taped to the tip jar. Is that not classic? I gave that guy a big tip.”

As for his first exposure to gay people, he comments, “In high school I was a jock, popular, good-looking, in student council, had a girlfriend — I was that guy. But I also had a friend who was a gay gothic chick, so she was outcast because she was gay and because she was goth with the tattoos and the piercings. But she was also really fuckin’ cool and smart. I would always invite her out with my group, but it was hard for her to come on her own, so mostly we would hang out separately. So I crossed the tracks back and forth with her.”

He adds, “I’ve had some great conversations with a lot of gay people about being gay, when they knew, how they came out, and how they live. I’ve also talked to some gay people who aren’t yet comfortable coming out, and boy, that’s got to be more than a daily fuckin’ headache. What a weight to carry on your shoulders. It’s all very interesting to me on a human level, because we’re all in this together.”

But of course the important important question, just how sexy is his Magic Mike strip? “It wasn’t in the script,” he says, “But Soderbergh said in the beginning that if it felt right, I could strip at the end of the movie. I said, ‘I gotta dance, man.’ I would regret it for the rest of my life if I was in a male stripper movie and didn’t get up there and strip myself.”

Channing Tatum Circling White House Down

May 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Channing Tatum is getting ready to show off his action man skills, as he’s in talks to star in Sony’s action-thriller, White House Down, according to THR. Last month Roland Emmerich was in early talks to direct, and has now been confirmed to take the helm.

The story is described as Die Hard set in the White House, concentrating on a paramilitary takeover of the President’s official residence. Not too many other details about the script are known.

Sony is moving fast, as they only bought the script in March, but as it was the largest script sale this year, with James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) getting $3 million for it, you can see why they’d want to ensure a speedy return on their investment. No production schedule was revealed, but it shouldn’t be too long before it’s shooting.

New Magic Mike Pic – Channing Tatum Goes Stripping In The Rain

April 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I think it’s safe to say that we here at Big Gay Picture Show are excited about Magic Mike and have been excitedly devouring every image and trailer we can get hold for it! Now a new pic has shown up, and while it doesn’t have quite as much man-flesh as many of the other images, it’s still kinda hot, with Channing Tatum taking part in some kind of Singin’ In The Rain style strip routine.

Partly based on Tatum’s experiences as a young male stripper, the film sees Channing as the title character, who mentors a newbie (Alex Pettyfer) stripper and also has to deal with the romantic fallout of taking off his clothes for a living. The film hits UK cinemas July 13th.

New G.I. Joe: Retaliation Trailer

April 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Oh dear. It doesn’t appear London is going to survive G.I. Joe: Retaliation, as this trailer suggests the entire thing is getting destroyed. Hopefully though the Joes will get us some revenge! In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The President has disbanded the Joes, but they’re not giving up, as they’re not even sure the President really is the President. Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson join Channing Tatum in the film, which will be released August 3rd (it seems a bit mean releasing a movie that blows up London in the middle of the Olympics, but never mind).

GI Joe: Retaliation Character Banners Show Off The Manliness

April 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although many are still wondering why they bothered to make a sequel to GI: Joe, the fact is the first film was actually quite fun and there are plenty of places for a sequel to go. It has been noticeable though that while Channing Tatum is back, he’s rather been sidelined in the marketing. He does get his own character banner though, alongside the likes of new additions Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis who play Roadblack and the original Joe respectively. Take a look at them all above and below. The film’s out August 3rd.

Magic Mike Trailer – Tatum, Pettyfer, McConaughey & Bomer get their stipper on

April 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I think it’s safe to say that a lot of gay men and straight women are looking forward to Magic Mike, if only because Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew Bomer, Matthew McConaughey and more play strippers! The trailer suggests there’s some sort of romance type plot too, but I don’t think anyone actually cares about that, or that much admired director Steven Soderbergh is behind the camera. Nope, they just want the buff blokes to get their kit off! Partly based on Tatum’s experiences as a young male stripper, the film sees him mentoring a newbie (Pettyfer) and apparently having romantic problems. The film hits UK cinemas July 13th.

Mark Ruffalo Set To Be A Foxcatcher

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Foxcatcher has been in the works for years, and while it moved a bit closer to the screen last year when Steve Carell and Channing Tatum signed on to star, it still haven’t gone in front of the camera. Now it’s taken one step closer, as The Avengers star Mark Ruffalo has joined the cast.

In the based on a true story tale, Ruffalo will play Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, with the film charting his relationship with John du Pont (Carell), who shot and killed him in 1996. John du Pont was the heir to the Du Pont chemical empire, but was also a paranoid schizophrenic. Schultz was a longtime friend to du Pont, who repeatedly tried to get him help before du Pont killed him. Channing Tatum will play Schultz’s younger brother, Mark, who was also an Olympic wrestler.

Production is scheduled to begin this October in Pittsburgh, with Bennett Miller (Moneyball) directing.
