Woody Harrelson Jumping Out Of The Furnace

April 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If nothing else, the cast for Out Of The Furnace is going to be a good one, with the latest person who’s sniffing around the film being Woody Harrelson, who Variety reports is in early talks to join the crime drama.

Christian Bale and Casey Affleck are set to play brothers, who get lured into a violent crime ring when a cruel twist of fate lands the one of them in prison. Harrelson will play the villain, Curtis DeGroat, the ringleader who Christian Bale’s character winds up seeking vengeance against. Zoe Saldana is playing Christian Bale’s love interest with Sam Shepard portraying his uncle.

Scott Cooper is directing, with production due to begin later this month.

Sam Shepard Jumps Out Of The Furnace

April 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Christian Bale and Zoe Saldana have been attached to Out Of The Furnace for a while, it’s only now that Relativity Media have closed deals with Bale and Saldana, along with Casey Affleck and Sam Shepard, to star in the film, with the last of those a new addition to the cast.

Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) will direct, with Bale as older Russell Baze alongside Affleck, who will play his younger brother Rodney Baze Jr. Saldana is Bale’s love interest Lena Warren, while Shepard will play Red, Russell and Rodney Baze’s uncle. Production is set to begin in Braddock, Pennsylvania later this month.

The film is a drama about fate, circumstance, and redemption. Russell and his younger brother live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother. (Source: Variety)

Billy Bob Thornton May Come Out Of The Furnace

March 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Crazy Heart helmer Scott Cooper signed up to direct Out Of The Furnace well over a year ago, and even by that point the script had been doing the rounds for quite a while, going through the hands of Ridley Scott and others. However now things are finally coming together, with Cooper busy putting the cast together.

Christian Bale and Zoe Saldana are already attached, and now Deadline reports that Billy Bob Thornton and Forest Whitaker are in talks to join them, playing lowlife characters. The movie is about an ex-con (Bale) who goes on a vengeful rampage right after his release from prison, in order to avenge the murder of his younger brother. Saldana is set to play Bale’s long-suffering girlfriend. Viggo Mortensen was said to be in line for the main villain role, but he’s now apparently passed, as that’s the part Thornton is being lined up for, while Whitaker will be a sleazy bookie.

Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) is directing Out of the Furnace from his own script, which is based on Brad Ingelsby’s screenplay, The Low Dweller. Production is due to start fairly soon, as Bale wants to slot it in before he sets off on a promotional press tour for The Dark Knight Rises, and then goes to work for Terrence Malick on a couple of movies.

January 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

And if you’ve been wondering whether you’ll be able to understand Bane in the movie, Nolan is still saying he won’t be clearing up the dialogue. He comments, “I think when people see the film, things will come into focus. Bane is very complex and very interesting and when people see the finished film people will be very entertained by him.” It’s also been confirmed that the film will feature a rebuilt Wayne Manor and Batcave.

Chris Nolan Only Likely To Slightly Alter Bane’s Voice

December 21, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

With a new trailer on Monday and a six-minute prologue attached to IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, the world gotten its first taste of Tom Hardy’s villainous Bane. However many people’s first reaction was, ‘What the hell is he saying?’

Many haven’t seen this as a problem, as the footage we’ve had is great and shows that the really important aspect of Bane is his physicality, not knowing exactly knowing what he’s saying. THR reports that some at Warner Bros are really worried about Bane’s comprehensibility, but insiders suggest that while director Christopher Nolan plans to alter the sound mix for Bane’s voice slightly, there won’t be a major overhaul of his dialogue.

An unnamed source is quoted as saying, “Chris wants the audience to catch up and participate rather than push everything at them. He doesn’t dumb things down. You’ve got to pedal faster to keep up.”

Nolan has also suggested that the prologue may not be the best showcase of whether we’ll be able to understand Bane or not, as while the accent and mask will always obscure things slightly, the fact the prologue takes place on a noisy plane makes things even more difficult to understand. It’ll be interesting to see what Bane ends up like in the final movie, which reaches cinemas in July.

Dark Knight Rises Prologue Script Pages Revealed?

December 19, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A six-minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises has been playing ahead of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol at IMAX cinemas in the UK over the weekend and causing much excitement. There have been a couple of problems though, as not everyone has an IMAX cinema close by to watch the footage and with the villainous Bane wearing breathing apparatus, it’s tough to tell what he’s saying.

Now script page for the prologue has shown up online, which you can read below and find out exactly what Bane is saying, as well as getting a taste for what you’ll miss if you can’t get to an IMAX cinema. It should be noted that while the pages showed up on WWTDD.com, they haven’t been confirmed by Warner Bros, so it’s possible they are wrong even if they are fairly convincing.

The Flowers Of War Trailer

December 12, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Flowers Of War gets an Oscar-qualifying release in the US later this week, ready for a big awards run, with the hope the Chinese made movie may become the first fully made and funded in that country to win the big gongs. Whether it will remains to be seen, but if this trailer’s anything to go by, it’s a powerful and visually arresting movie. While it’s Chinese made, with Hero’s Yang Zhimou directing, the film is attempt to appeal to western audiences with most of it in English, with Christian Bale starring. The film sees Bale as a priest caught up in the events following the fall on Nanjing to the Japanese in 1937, with the plot revolving around a group of Chinese sex workers who volunteer to replace university students as forced escorts for invading soldiers. No UK release is currently fixed.

New Dark Knight Rises Poster Hits

December 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The much vaunted prologue to The Dark Knight Rises will be playing in IMAX cinemas ahead of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and to prepare for that, a new poster for the movie has been released. If the image is anything to go by, things aren’t going to go well for Batman in this installment, with Bane (Tom Hardy) posing a serious threat as the movie’s main big bad.

There’s definitely a note of finality about the film, with Christopher Nolan seemingly keen to put a full stop after his trilogy of movies, and that audiences should know this really will be a true conclusion. The film hits cinemas July 20th, but for now enjoy the rather cool poster.
