Ethan Hawke & Julie Delpy Are Back In New Before Midnight Photos

January 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

before-midnight-pic1After 1995’s Before Sunrise and 2004’s Sunset, it’s now time to catch up with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy as Jesse and Celine in Before Midnight, which should hit UK cinemas later this year. Now ThePlaylist has a quartet of new images, showing the duo together again after nine years.

The images have arrived just as the movie is about to debut at Sundance, with many expecting a battle between distributors to erupt to be the one to release it, due to the cult hit value of the first two movies and therefore its in-built audience.

Not much is known about the plot, but it was shot in Greece last summer and sees Jesse and Celine once more using part of a day reignite their relationship.

Sinister (Cinema)

October 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, Fred Dalton Thompson, James Ransom, Michael Hall D’Addario
Director: Scott Derrickson
Running Time: 110 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 5th 2012

Sinister should be rubbish. The plot is rather silly, numerous things happen that make little sense (and not just because of supernatural shenanigans), and it has a title so generic its feels like they simple couldn’t be assed. However thanks to some excellent make-you-jump moments, a mystery plot that holds enough interest to keep you watching and a creepy atmosphere, it’s a surprisingly effective chiller.

Ethan Hawke plays Ellison Oswalt, a writer of true-crime books who moves his family to a small town to investigate the murder of four members of a family, and the disappearance of a small girl, for which no perpetrator has ever been found. What he hasn’t told his wife and kids is that the house they’ve moved into is the one where the family were hung from a tree in the backyard. [Read more…]

Sinister Red Band Trailer – Ethan Hawke gets creepy in the new thriller

September 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Scott Derrickson creeped us all out with The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and now he’s hoping to do it again by teaming up with the producers of Paranormal Activity for the supernatural thriller Sinister. Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror. It all looks a bit Insidious meets The Ring. The film hits UK cinemas on October 5th.

Richard Linklater Wraps Another Before Sunrise Flick

September 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Are we going to get a new Before Sunrise sequel every nine years? That seems to be the pattern, as after Ethan Hawke hinted at another movie last year and various rumours have popped up since, it’s now been revealed that not only is a third film coming, but it’s already finished shooting and will be called Before Midnight.

Hawke and Delpy are back as Jesse and Celine, this time taking in Greece (after Vienna and Paris in the first two movies). There’s no news on plot specifics, although presumably it will be another fairly brief encounter with the duo.

In a joint statement Hawke, Delpy and director Richard Linklater say, “It’s great to be back together again, this time in beautiful Greece to revisit the lives of Celine and Jesse nine years after Jesse was about to miss his flight.”

The plan is to get it in cinemas next year so that it was nine years between Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, and another nine until Before Midnight. (Source: Variety)

From the producer of the Paranormal Activity films and the writer/director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror. It all looks a bit Insidious meets The Ring. The film should be out just before Halloween.

Ethan Hawke Seeks Predestination

May 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Ethan Hawke’s film output has ranged from the great to the abysmal, one of his stronger recent efforts was the futurisic vampire flick, Daybreakers. Now Variety reports that he’s reteaming with the directors of that movie, Michael and Peter Spierig, for the sci-fi movie, Predestination, based on Robert Heinlein’s 1958 short story, All You Zombies.

The Spierig’s say, “This is one of our favourite short stories. It’s truly original, and unlike anything you’ve ever read before. It’s the mother of all time paradox tales.” The plot follows a vaguely Minority Report style agency that travels through time to stop criminals committing murders and terrorists acts before they can go ahead with them. Hawke’s agent is sent on a series on intricate journeys in the hope he can continue his law enforcement career for eternity, with complicated results involving a particularly unexpected predestination paradox and a sex change operation!

The film will shoot in Australia at the beginning of next year.

The Woman In The Fifth (Cinema)

February 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Ethan Hawke, Kristin Scott Thomas, Joanna Kulig, Samir Guesmi
Director: Pawel Pawlikowski
Running Time: 83 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 17th, 2012

Tom Ricks (Ethan Hawke) isn’t having a good time. He arrives in Paris in the hope of reuniting with his daughter, but is soon thrown out of his ex-wife’s home amid accusations of prior violence and a restraining order. After falling asleep on a bus, he wakes up at the end of the line having been robbed of his suitcase and cash.

Still in hope of having some contact with his child, Tom manages to find a cheap room in a hovel and to supplement his income with a strange CCTV job that merely involves opening a door for people, without knowing what’s on the other side. He has hopes of finishing his second novel (even though he seems to remember little about the first), and putting his life back on track. [Read more…]

Lena Headey Joins Ethan Hawke In Viglandia

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While I do think Ethan Hawke could sometimes do with taking supporting roles in higher profile films rather than trying to be always be a leading man, he does often pick interesting projects. A couple of weeks ago it was revealed he’d signed on to star in Viglandia for director James DeMonaco.

Now he’s got some company, as Variety reports that Lena Headey is set to co-star in the movie. Unfortunately the news of her casting has come with many details on the plot, which are being kept under wraps by DeMonaco and the guys at Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes (which is backing the film).

We do know that Viglandia will be a very low-budget futuristic thriller.

Headey is best known for 300, Games Of Thrones and The Sarah Connor Chronicles and will be seen soon as the villain in Dredd.

John Cusack Counts Himself In For The Numbers Station

October 25, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

One of the joys of John Cusack is that you never know what sort of movie he might come out with next, as his resume is filled with everything from mega-budget action spectaculars to tiny little indie flicks. Now he’s going action thriller again, as Variety reports that Cusack has signed up to star in The Numbers Station, opposite Malin Akerman, who was cast last month.

Although not 100% clear, it seems Cusack is taking over the role Ethan Hawke was originally going to play, as a disgraced black-ops CIA agent who gets sent to a dead-end assignment in the Nevada desert. He is told to protect a code breaker (Akerman) working at an isolated CIA broadcast station. It’s supposed to be an easy job, but gets a lot more difficult when she’s targeted by unknown assailants.

The Candidate’s Kasper Barfoed is directing with shooting set to begin in the next few months, after funding is locked down at next month’s American Film Market.
