London Has Fallen For Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart & Morgan Freeman

October 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Olympus-has-fallen-posterMany had thought that in this year’s battle of terrorists-taking-over-the-White-House movies, White House Down would beat Olympus Has Fallen, but it was the latter that became the biggest hit, doing so well that a British set sequel is now in the works.

Currently titled London Has Fallen, Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell are all set to reprise their roles from the original, according to ScreenDaily.

As the title suggest, the film moves the action from Washington DC to London. US President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) is in the UK to attend the funeral of the British Prime Minister, and has taken his Secret Service head, Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), with him. They must team up again to save the day with a British MI6 agent when a terrorist plot unfolds. Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell are also set to reprise their roles as Secretary of Defense Ruth McMillan and Leah.

Olympus Has Fallen writers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt back writing the screenplay. Focus Features is currently seeking a director, as it seems Antoine Fuqua won’t return. Filming will begin on May 5th, 2014.

October 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau & Geoffrey Rush Up For Gods of Egypt

In recent years there have been quite a few films about Roman and Greek mythology, but up until now the film world has generally steered clear of ancient Egyptian gods. However Alex Proyas (I Robot, Dark City) wants to change that, as he’s been working on Gods Of Egypt and now he’s pulling his cast together.

Deadline reports that Gerard Butler is in talks to star, alongside Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, while THR adds that Geoffrey Rush has signed on.

The film is based on the mythological God of the Desert, Storms and Foreigners, Set (Butler), who kills his own brother, Osiris. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will be Osiris’ son, Horus, the God of the Sky, who teams up with a common thief and the Goddess of Love, Hathor, to get revenge for his father’s murder. Rush is set to play Ra, the sun god, who may also be in Set’s murderous sights.

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold, Flash Gordon) are on scripting duty. It’s not clear when it might shoot.

May 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mcg-directorTerminator: Salvation and This Means War helmer McG has signed on to direct the languishing action thriller Hunter Killer for Relativity Media, according to Variety. Antoine Fuqua and Gerard Butler were previously attached to direct and star, but they dropped out before they went on to make Olympus Has Fallen together.

The project is based on the novel Firing Point by Don Keith and George Wallace, which follows a new submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL unit to rescue the Russian president, and stop a rogue Russian general from starting World War III.

Jamie Moss (Street Kings), Arne Schmidt (The Express), and John Kolvenbach wrote the adapted screenplay. It’s not clear when it might shoot.

Gerard Butler Replacing Liam Hemsworth In The Raven

When The Raven was first announced, Liam Hemsworth was attached to star. He’s no longer involved and it looks like the producers are going a little older to find a replacement, as TheWrap reports that Gerard Butler is in talks to star in the sci-fi flick.

Ricardo de Montreuil is set to direct the film, which is about a man with incredible, super-human talents, who is on the run from robotic cop drones in downtown Los Angeles, while a police ship hovers in the sky, coordinating the chase.

The plan is to start shooting later this year.

Tom Hardy Wants To Go To Bed With Gerard Butler

April 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hardy-gerard-butler1 tom-hardy-gerard-butler2 tom-hardy-gerard-butler3 tom-hardy-gerard-butler4If you’ve never seen RockNRolla, it features Tom Hardy as Handsome Bob, who’s in the closet and has a semi-secret crush of Gerard Butler’s One-Two.

The moment above is one that’s great to revisit now that Tom’s a lot more famous and we can all wish he was asking to come to our beds.

It’s not impossible either, as he’s admitted in the past to having a bit of a fiddle with men in his youth, even if he’s now decidedly straight. It’s certainly enough to keep our dreams alive. (GIFs via WoW, FormerMaleProstitute & DragQueenNeame)

Olympus Has Fallen Trailer – Gerard Butler takes on terrorists

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The White House isn’t going to do well this year, as it’s being taken over by terrorists in both Roland Emmerich’s White House Down and Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen. It’s the latter which arrives first on March 22nd in the US and April 19th in the UK, and now the trailer for the movie has arrived.

It all looks very Die Hard at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, with Gerard Butler as an ex-special forces officer taken off the President’s security detail after an accident. However when international terrorists attack the White House and take the President (Aaron Eckhart) hostage. It also stars Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Ashley Judd.

While the trailer does suggest a movie that’ll be completely over the top, it could also be quite fun. We’ll have to wait and see.

Crush Of The Day: Gerard Butler

January 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac 3 Comments

Gerard-Butler-Playing-For-Keeps-slide
Playing For Keeps hits UK cinemas today, so that’s a good reason to take a look at some hot pics of Gerard Butler. The actor has been around for quite a while, starting out in small roles in the likes of Mrs. Brown and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Although he soon began to get larger parts, such as the title role in Dracula 2001 and playing Creedy in Reign Of Fire, nobody really played much attention to him until he scored the villain role in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle Of Life. That led to the likes of Timeline and The Phantom Of The Opera, but it wasn’t until 300 that he broke out into the Hollywood mainstream.

Unfortunately, since then he’s spent most of his time in middling movies such as The Ugly Truth and The Bounty Hunter, along with plenty of generic action films such as Law Abiding Citizen and Gamer. Indeed he’s in need of a bit of a hit, as in the the last few months the US releases of Chasing Mavericks and Playing For Keeps have both bombed. He’ll be hoping for better from the upcoming White House hostage flick Olympus Has Fallen, which arrives in cinemas this spring.

However, while his films haven’t always been great, Gerard’s always looked good in them, and so we’ve gathered some of his best pics below. Click on them to enlarge. [Read more…]

Gerard Butler Gets Shirtless In New Playing For Keeps Pic

November 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I have a theory that when the people marketing a rom-com start releasing shots of the male stars with their shirts off, it’s almost an admission the film won’t be great – almost as if they’re saying, ‘Hey, the film might be rubbish, but maybe you’ll be able to at least get your rocks off a little’.

Hopefully that won’t be true of Playing For Keeps, even if we do now have a random shot of Gerard Butler wearing nothing but a towel, showing off his abs and the scruff of hair on his chest.

In the movie, Gerard Butler gets his David Beckham on as a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star who returns home to put his life back together. Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy’s soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an “adult” are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive “soccer moms” who pursue him at every turn. The film co-stars Jessica Biel, Dennis Quaid and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The movie hits US cinemas on December 7th and comes to the UK on January 1st. Hopefully despite my theory about shirtless rom-com pics, Playing For Keeps will be a good one (and personally I’m hoping for more rubbish rom-coms as the images are certainly nice).

Gerard Butler Set To Be A Dynamo In A WWII Soccer Movie

October 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gerard Butler sure seems to like his football, as he’s got the soccer mom rom-com Playing The Field arriving early next year, and now Deadline reports that he’s signed up for the World War II footie drama Dynamo.

Based on Dynamo: Defending The Honour Of Kiev by Andy Dougan, the film will tell the true story of a landmark soccer game that took place between an occupied Ukrainian soccer team and their Nazi captors during World War II.

To stem a rising tide of resistance against the Nazi occupation and establish German superiority, the Nazis set up a match pitting the starving Ukrainians against a ‘super team’ of German players. Butler will play Nikolai Trusevich, the all-star goalie who served as a cornerstone and leader for his team, and ultimately inspired the entire battered city of Kiev. The game came to be known as ‘The Death Match’.

No director is attached as yet, but the plan is to shoot someitme next year.
