Four Weddings And A Funeral (Blu-ray)

February 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Andie MacDowell, Hugh Grant, James Fleet, Kristin Scott Thomas, Simon Callow
Director: Mike Newell
Running Time: 112 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: 2012, February 6th

“Is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed.”

It may be the most vomit-inducing line in modern cinema, to the point that it’s rather overshadowed people’s opinions of the movie. The fact is that beyond that moment, Four Weddings & A Funeral is a rather wry, witty, sweet and somewhat subversive romantic comedy. Indeed it’s the fact that it doesn’t take the usual route of generic rom-coms that turned it into a huge hit, which on its release became one of the biggest movies ever at the UK box office.

If you haven’t seen it, the title is very literal, as the film takes place over the course of four weddings and a funeral, as we chart the course of the relationship between Charles (Grant) and Carrie (MacDowell), who meet at the first wedding  and take a rather unusual romantic course through the other ceremonies. Behind-The-Scenes Shot From Cloud Atlas

December 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Cloud Atlas is certainly an unusual movie, with three directors helming two separate units, telling six tales using the same actors in each, although the stars could be playing different races and genders in each story. To celebrate production ending on the movie, Empire has debuted a behind-the-scenes photo from the shoot, which you can see above.

In the centre of the shot are directors Tom Twyker, Lana Wachowsi and Andy Wachowski, while David Mitchell, who wrote the book the film is based on, is sat towards the back. The other guys are Cloud Atlas’ producers. Interestingly, it’s believed this is the first official image released of Lana Wachowski since she started living full-time as a woman. Although a few other shots of the notoriously publicity shy Wachowskis have surfaced in the last couple of years, this is the first official one.

Here’s a synopsis of the complex but intriguing film: ‘A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilization — the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.’

Cloud Atlas stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Bae Doona and should hit cinemas towards the end of 2012.

Peter Cattaneo May Have Bridget Jones’ Baby

December 1, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Peter Cattaneo scored a gargantuan hit with The Full Monty in 1997, but he hasn’t exactly managed to follow it up with any other successful movies. Indeed his most recent credits are directing episodes of the TV series Rev. However now Deadline reports that Cattaneo is in talks to take on the third Bridget Jones movie, after director Paul Fieg bailed on the project in October.

It also appears the film will be called Bridget Jones’ Baby, which seems to fall in line with statements made by Colin Firth in August when he said, “I can tell you that Bridget and Mark can’t have children, I think that’s the way it goes on. So then she makes the huge mistake of going back to Daniel Cleaver [Hugh Grant’s character] for long enough to get pregnant. And I think he dumps her, and she’s left stranded, and guess who comes back to rescue her?”

There’s been no confirmation this is the plot (hopefully not as it seems rather contrived), but getting Bridget to have a baby does seem the logical next step for the series. Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant and all expected for the sequel. While this installment won’t be based on a Helen Fielding book, she has been helping out with the screenplay, alongside Paul Feig and David Nicholls.
