The Boy Next Door Trailer – Jennifer Lopez goes cougar for Ryan Guzman

September 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

boy-next-door-slideJennifer Lopez seems to have accepted she’s not 21 anymore (it took her a while), as she’s turning cougar for The Boy Next Door, although it looks like this might be a bit of a cautionary tale about underestimating the obsessions of youth.

The film is about a woman (Lopez) who’s separated from her husband and becomes attracted to the teenage boy who moves in next door (Step Up’s Ryan Guzman), even though the young new neighbour becomes friends with her son. After briefly striking up a romance with the boy, she breaks it off abruptly, only to realise how obsessed he has become with her.

Rob Cohen directs from a screenplay by Barbara Curry. It’s due out in the UK March 2015. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Jennifer Lopez To Receive Human Rights Campaign Ally For Equality Award

September 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jennifer-lopezEarlier this year, Whoopi Goldberg was honoured with the Human Rights Campaign Ally For Equality Award. Now the next recipient has been named. HRC has announced that Jennifer Lopez will receive the gong at their National Dinner on 5 October in Washington DC.

“Jennifer Lopez embodies the spirit of an ally to the LGBT community and we are thrilled to present her the Ally for Equality at our National Dinner in October,” said HRC president Chad Griffin. “We recognize Jennifer for her talent, style, compassion, philanthropy and generosity, but foremost for her public commitment to LGBT equality.”

The Ally for Equality award is given to allies outside the LGBT community who stand up on behalf of equality and try to improve the lives of gay people. J-Lo has been a very vocal supporter of the LGBT community, including raising money for HIV and AIDS research, as well as for anti-bullying and anti-violence services.

She’s also recently been an executive producer on The Fosters, a TV series about a lesbian couple who take in children who are in need of a home.

“Even facing pressure from anti-LGBT groups, Jennifer stands her ground as a strident equality supporter,” Griffin said. “Throughout her career, Jennifer Lopez has always stood for fairness, justice and equality, and that’s what being an ally is all about.”

Kristin Chenoweth Joins Jennifer Lopez In The Boy Next Door

September 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kristin-chenowethThe all-singing, all-dancing terrier that is Kristin Chenoweth is in talks to join the cast of The Boy Next Door for director Rob Cohen, according to THR. She’s the second cast member to be announced, following Jennifer Lopez earlier this month.

The film is about a woman (Jennifer Lopez) who’s separated from her husband and becomes attracted to the teenage boy who moves in next door, even though the young new neighbour becomes friends with her son. After briefly striking up a romance with the boy, she breaks it off abruptly, only to realise how obsessed he has become with her. Kristin Chenoweth is playing the mother’s best friend.

Rob Cohen is directing from a screenplay by Barbara Curry. The low-budget movie is due to shoot this autumn.

Jennifer Lopez Turns Cougar For The Boy Next Door

September 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jennifer-lopezThanks to Paranormal Activity, producer Jason Blum has become a big of a micro-to-mid budget powerhouse, bringing us the likes of Insidious, The Purge, Dark Skies and Sinister. Now he’s getting slightly less horror-centric with the thriller The Boy Next Door, which will star Jennifer Lopez (Blum also produced films like The Reader, so he’s not just about scares).

It’s another low-budget effort from the producer, costing just $3-$4 million, according to Variety.

The actress will play a recently separated mother who strikes up an affair with recently arrived in town teenage boy. However, when her son befriends her inappropriate love interest, things take a turn for the worse and the mother tries to abruptly end the relationship. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this doesn’t work out well for anyone involved.

xXx and The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen is in talks to direct from a script by Barbara Curry. The plan is to shoot this autumn, before Lopez is due to return as a guest judge on American Idol in January.

Jennifer Lopez Up To Join Antonio Banderas In Chilean Miner Drama The 33

June 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jennifer-lopezWith the likes of American Idol and motherhood to deal with, Jennifer Lopez hasn’t been making that many movies recently (and some would say that’s a good thing. However she’s now signed on to star in the Chilean miner drama The 33, alongside Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Santoro, according to THR.

Last month it was revealed that Antonio Banderas will play the miner Mario Sepulveda, a.k.a. Super Mario, with Martin Sheen playing Mario’s father and Rodrigo Santoro playing another one of the 33 miners, who were trapped underground for 69 days in 2010. No details were given regarding Jennifer Lopez’s role, although we’re presuming she’ll play someone waiting for news on the surface (all those underground were men).

Patricia Riggen is directing from a screenplay by Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera. Production is scheduled to begin this fall in Chile.

Promo For J-Lo Produced Lesbian TV Drama The Fosters Released

April 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lopez is moving into producing TV shows, with The Fosters due to start airing on ABC Family in the US this June. What makes it interesting for this site is that it’s about a female gay couple raising children, focussing on school vice principal Lena, her police officer partner Stef, and their children.

Lead actresses Sherri Saum and Teri Polo are set to attend the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards in Los Angeles today (April 20th), and just ahead of that the first promo for the show has been released, which you can see above.

While Lopez is mainly behind the camera, cast member Jake T Austin, who plays one of the foster children, recently commented that she’s likely to appear in the series at some point. “She was maybe thinking about doing a cameo in the pilot…” he says. “But there was some apprehension in deciding how early they wanted to feature someone like her into the show. So she’ll definitely come on… but at this point we just don’t know when.”

As you’d also expect, there’s already a bit of controversy over the show with anti-gay harumphers One Million Moms, writing on their website of The Fosters, ‘None of this material is acceptable content for a family show. Hollywood is continuing to push an agenda that homosexuality is acceptable when the scripture states clearly it is a sin.’

The first episode is due to air June 3rd in the US, but there’s no UK date set. [Read more…]

The film follows several couples through the dubious joys of pregnancy. What To Expect When You’re Expecting Trailer

December 9, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Turning a self-help book into a movie is a bit of a strange idea if you ask me, but they’ve done it with What To Expect When You’re Expecting, which follows several couples through the dubious joys of pregnancy. Over the moon about starting a family, TV fitness guru Jules and dance show star Evan find that their high-octane celebrity lives don’t stand a chance against the surprise demands of pregnancy. Baby-crazy author and advocate Wendy gets a taste of her own militant mommy advice when pregnancy hormones ravage her body; while Wendy’s husband, Gary, struggles not to be outdone by his competitive alpha-Dad, who’s expecting twins with his much younger trophy wife, Skyler. Photographer Holly is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex isn’t so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a “dudes” support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. And rival food truck chefs Rosie and Marco’s surprise hook-up results in an unexpected quandary: what to do when your first child comes before your first date? The film’s out next May.

J-Lo Asks Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?

November 4, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lopez could do with a hit if she wants to remain a movie star. Motherhood took her away from the film biz for several years and her return with The Back-Up Plan was roundly panned and ignored by audience. She has kept herseolf in the spotlight judging American Idol, but now it appears she wants to get back on screen with a film version of he video game and TV series Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

She’s teaming up with Walden Media (the Narnia movies) for the film, and while she’s currently only attached to produce, it’s believed the project is being put together for her to star in. In the movie, when the ACME agency’s greatest detective, Carmen Sandiego, becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. Their cat and mouse game leads the partner to confront a greater mystery: is Carmen really a thief or a hero? Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? started off as an educational video game before it spawned an animated TV series.

It isn’t known when the film might go into production.
