Eva Green Stares Down Johnny Depp In New Dark Shadows Image

February 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dark Shadows arrives in cinemas in May, and while we wait for a trailer, the images we’ve seen have certainly been intriguing. The latest above is from Luces Camara Blog, and shows a blonde Eva Green staring down a very pale Johnny Depp.

Green plays witch Angelique Bouchard who has a long history with Depp’s vampire, Barnabas Collins.

If you’ve been wondering what sort of tone the Tim Burton movie, which is based on a 1960s US supernatural soap opera, will have, screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith has been talking to Badass Digest and told then, “The tone of the movie is soap operatic. It’s heightened. Everything is heightened and grand. Johnny is just dug in and big. [Starts hamming it up] ‘Didn’t you see? How… could you? My god, woman!’ There’s an absurdist element to it. It’s very funny. I don’t think people are expecting it to be as funny as it is.”

Here’s the lengthy official synopsis: ‘In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

‘Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

‘Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.’

Best Look Yet At Johnny Depp In Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows

January 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Dark Shadows due out in May, the hype machine is gradually building up, in the hope that it’ll be a big breakout hit. Now a new image has arrived, giving us our best look yet at Johnny Depp’s vampiric Barnabas Collins.

Here’s the synopsis of the film, which is based on a 1960s supernatural US soap opera: ‘In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. New Pic From Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows

January 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s only a few months until Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows arrives in cinemas on May 11th, and so far there hasn’t been much hype for the movie, barring a single image released a couple of months ago. However with the new year comes a new picture, via EW, featuring Johnny Depp looking impossibly young (he is playing an immortal vampire, after all) alongside Michelle Pfeiffer.

James Frain On For The Lone Ranger

December 19, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It seems that The Lone Ranger is keen not to depart from the old Hollywood standby of casting Brits as villains. Tom Wilkinson is already installed as the main baddie in the film, and now THR reports he has some company in the form of James Frain.

Frain is one of those actors where you probably know the face even if you don’t know his name, as he often pops up in guest spots on American TV shows and has appeared in the likes of Tron: Legacy and Water for Elephants). In the Lone Ranger he’ll portray a foreman who oversees Chinese and Native American railroad workers for the villainous Latham Cole (Tom Wilkinson).

Armie Hammer will play the title character, with Johnny Depp as Tonto. Helena Bonham Carter, Ruth Wilson, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, are also onbarod Dwight Yoakam also star. After ruction over the budget that caused filming to be delayed, dhooting is due to start on February 13th with Gore Verbinski directing.

The Rum Diary (Cinema)

November 10, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, Richard Jenkins, Giovanni Ribisi
Director: Bruce Robinson
Running Time: 120 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 11th, 2011

On paper, The Rum Diary sounds like a sure-fire winner, but in practice it’s slightly more problematic than that. The film sees Johnny Depp returning to the work of Hunter S. Thompson and again playing the kind of Thompson alter-ego that he did so well in Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas. Depp has been intimately involved with the movie, to the point where he was the one who told Thompson to publish it, as the writer had stuffed it in a drawer since the early 60s and never let anyone see it. Depp and Thompson were casting around for something else they could film after Fear & Loathing, and came across The Rum Diary, which was duly published and is Hunter’s only proper novel. Bradley Cooper May Be Man From U.N.C.L.E

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Despite The Man From U.N.C.L.E. being a classic TV show and Steven Soderbergh planning to be behind the camera for a film version, it’s had a lot of difficulty finding a leading man. The likes of Johnny Depp and Matt Damon have passed on the film, and while George Clooney was attached for a while, he recently walked. Now it looks like it may have found somebody, as Variety reports that Bradley Cooper is in talks to play Napoleon Solo.

The plot revolves around two agents for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E) – Napoleon Solo and his Russian counterpart, Illya Kuryakin, who are committed to saving the world from the evil forces of the Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (T.H.R.U.S.H.). They were played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum in the original show.

Scott Z. Burns (World War Z) is on scripting duties, with Soderbergh keen to keep the classic 60s setting of the TV show. The movie is expected to go into production early next year.

Lone Ranger Gets The Greenlight

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The game of hardball between Disney, director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer seems to have come to an end, as Deadline reports that after all sorts of issues, the studio has finally given the Lone Ranger the green light.

Back in August it looked like things were all over for the movie, as Disney cancelled it when Verbinski said he couldn’t make the film for less than $250-$275 million. Disney wanted it to cost $200 million or less. With neither side budging, the studio simply pulled the plug. Since then, Bruckheimer, Verbinski and Depp have all been working on making the film cheaper, and have also taken pay cuts. Portions of the script were also revised to keep most of the spectacle, but for a lower cost. It’ll now cost $215 million, which the studio seems happy with.

Johnny Depp will star as Tonto, while Armie Hammer is set to portray the title character. Several other people, such as Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Wilkinson were cast in the film before it was cancelled, but it’s not known if they’ll stick around following the delays. A December 21, 2012 release date is still currently set for Lone Ranger, although that date seems likely to change since production isn’t expected to begin until January or February of 2012 (Disney will announce later this week exactly when the film will shoot).
