The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Trailer – Can’t Middle Earth people just learn to get along?

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hobbit-battle-of-five-armies-poster1-slideIn just over a month we’ll be going back into Middle Earth for the last time (probably) with the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. To give us a taste of what we can expect, the full trailer has now arrived, which you can watch below.

As you would expect, the trailer is big on battle (which presumably involves five armies) and suggests this instalment certainly won’t be lacking in action. Indeed rumours already suggest the final battle itself will last for more than 45 minutes.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

‘“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. The Dwarves of Erebor have reclaimed the vast wealth of their homeland, but now must face the consequences of having unleashed the terrifying Dragon, Smaug, upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

‘As he succumbs to dragon-sickness, the King Under the Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield, sacrifices friendship and honor in his search for the legendary Arkenstone. Unable to help Thorin see reason, Bilbo is driven to make a desperate and dangerous choice, not knowing that even greater perils lie ahead. An ancient enemy has returned to Middle-earth. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide—unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends as five great armies go to war.’

Bilbo Gets His The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Poster

October 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hobbit-battle-of-five-armies-poster2In the last film they found Smaug and the dragon isn’t happy. It’s only a few months until we get to see what happens next (or you could just read the book), with Laketown under threat and Bilbo stuck in the middle of it all.

Now the main one-sheet poster for the film has arrived, with Martin Freeman and his sword centre stage.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. The Dwarves of Erebor have reclaimed the vast wealth of their homeland, but now must face the consequences of having unleashed the terrifying Dragon, Smaug, upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug (Blu-ray)

April 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom
Director: Peter Jackson
Running Time: 161 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: April 7th 2014

It seems The Hobbit is determined to follow the same pattern as Lord Of The Rings. The first film was good but essentially just involved a lot of walking with a plot where much of it could have been cut out without hurting the overall arc of the story. The second is overall a better movie, but leaves things in a way where it’s difficult to fully judge it without seeing part three, as it spends so much time setting things up for that movie.

The Desolation Of Smaug picks up where the last film left off, with Bilbo (Martin Freeman), Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the band of dwarves heading towards the Lonely Mountain in order to take on the dragon Smaug, who many years ago took smote Erebor and displaced the dwarves who lived there. The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug (Cinema)

December 11, 2013 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Benedict Cumberbatch
Director: Peter Jackson
Running Time: 161
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: December 13th 2013

After the massive success of Lord Of The Rings, The Hobbit: An unexpected Journey wasn’t as well received by fans and critics. This was due to running time, the lengthy introduction to all the new characters, as well as Peter Jackson’s controversial decision to film and project it at 48fps (which many complained gave it a video feel).

So has Jackson redeemed himself with the diehard fans of Middle Earth with part two of the Hobbit trilogy? Yes, Smaug is The Two Towers compared to the slower Fellowship of the Ring. [Read more…]

October 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As we were promised, a new trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has arrived and it certainly looks pretty, showing of the visuals and action, as well as the return of old friends like Legolas and new character played by actors such as Evangeline Lily, Lee Pace and Luke Evans – the last two of which you can see in new banners above.

There’s also a few giant spider to look out for. But once again the dragon Smaug is only glimpsed in bits and pieces.

New The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Banner Arrives

September 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hobbit-desolation-of-smaug-banner
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has released a new banner, showing off Bilbo and some of the dwarves, with plenty of cobwebs to suggest what they are up against. Along with the banner, we’ve also been promised that a brand new trailer will hit on Tuesday.

And it seems there are only two colours for Middle Earth posters – yellow and brown, or tinged with blue. Seriously, take a look at the Lord Of The Rings ones and you’ll see what I mean.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit”, by J.R.R. July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are lots of people very excited for The World’s End, which reunites Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost following Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Now a new featurette has emerged showing Edgar Wright at work on the movie, with everyone stepping up to say how awesome he is.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for a third film following the successes “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) and “Hot Fuzz” (2007). In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Teaser Trailer – Including our first good look at the dragon

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is much what you’d expect. Indeed it was always in danger of seeming exactly like all the promos for the first film, so it makes sure it adds in a few new things, mostly our first looks at Orlando Bloom returning to the role of Legolas, as well as Evangeline Lilly as the elf Tauriel and a decent glimpse of the evil, treasure-loving dragon, Smaug (who’ll be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit”, by J.R.R.
