Interstellar Trailer – Matthew McConaughey is heading into space for Christopher Nolan

May 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

So far the promotion of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has been pretty low key, as while the loose plot details we’ve had have suggested a big space adventure, the marketing has been pretty earthbound.

That’s true of the beginning of this trailer – but things aren’t going very well for the planet. So it’s time to send Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway into space!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), the production will travel the globe and utilize a mixture of 35mm anamorphic and IMAX film photography to bring to the screen a script based on the combination of an original idea by Nolan and an existing script by Jonathan Nolan, originally developed for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

‘“Interstellar” features a prestigious cast that includes Matthew McCaughey (“Magic Mike,” “Mud”), Academy Award® winner Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables,” “The Dark Knight Rises”), Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Tree of Life”), Bill Irwin (“Rachel Getting Married,” TV’s “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”), Academy Award® nominee John Lithgow (“Terms of Endearment,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), Academy Award® nominee Casey Affleck (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Gone Baby Gone”), David Gyasi (“Cloud Atlas”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Mackenzie Foy (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2”), Timothée Chalamet (TV’s “Homeland”), Topher Grace (“Spider-Man 3”), David Oyelowo (“Jack Reacher,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), Academy Award® winner Ellen Burstyn (“The Last Picture Show,” “The Exorcist”), and Academy Award® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy).’

The film’s due out in November. [Read more…]

December 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s just under a year until we can expect the next film from Christopher Nolan – Interstellar. Now Warner Bros. Pictures and Paramount Pictures have launched the official website for the film at Interstellarmovie.com, and along with that comes a first look at the logo. That’s ahead of a teaser trailer that’s expected to play alongside The Hobbit 2.

It’s based on a script by Jonathan Nolan, which Chris then rewrote. All that’s known is that it’s about a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

The film’s due out November 7th, 2014 and stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin, Casey Affleck, Mackenzie Foy and John Lithgow.

Dressed To Kill (Blu-ray)

July 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Caine, Angie Dickinson, Nancy Allen, Keith Gordon, Dennis Franz
Director: Brian De Palma
Running Time: 105 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: July 29th 2013

For years Brian De Palma has carried around the moniker of being a Hitchcock imitator, and it is perhaps Dressed To Kill more than any of his other movies that’s the cause of that. While it is its own beast, it’s hard to escape the fact that the movie borrows liberally from Hitchcock, particularly Vertigo and Psycho – from killing off the main character partway through to a fascination with sex and perversion.

However it’s slightly like Hitchcock on acid, as it’s far more overblown than the master, which has led to accusations of sexism and transphobia. Various people have tried to explain away these claims over the years, but it does sometimes seem like Dressed To Kill is punishing its characters for not conforming to sex and gender norms. Michael Caine Joins Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

May 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-caineIt’s starting to seem like Christopher Nolan can’t make a movie without Michael Caine, as after Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises, they’re reteaming for Interstellar.

No details are known regarding Michael Caine’s character, but Nolan usually cast him as a wise old man character, so it wouldn’t be surprising if that’s who he’s playing. Caine joins a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain.

The movie is about a voyage into outer space that tests the boundaries of science and technology. The plot is said to be based on the scientific theories of Kip S. Thorne, who believes that wormholes exist and can be used for time travel.

Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. A late 2014 release is already set.

Ben Kingsley & Michael Caine Join Eliza Graves

April 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-caineBrad Anderson’s career has certainly has its up and downs. He got major praise for The Machinist, but few saw Transsiberian, and Vanishing On 7th Street was such a disaster it was quietly slipped out with nobody noticing. However he’s had a bit of a boost with the recent The Call, and now he’s lining up Eliza Graves.

Jim Sturgess and Kate Beckinsale are already aboard to star, and now he’s added some more Brits, as Deadline reports that Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine have signed on to star.

The screenplay is based on a short story by Edgar Allan Poe called The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, and follows a Med School student trapped in a mental institution that has been overtaken by its inmates. Some of the patients are now pretending to be doctors, but it’s not clear who. Kate Beckinsale will play the title character, an inmate who has an affair with a Harvard grad. There’s no news on who Caine and Kingsley will play, although we’d bet one is a patient posing as a doctor, while the other is the real head of the institution who’s been forced to be a patient.

Joe Gangemi (Wind Chill) wrote the script, with production set to begin June 21st in Bulgaria.

Now You See Me Trailer – Jesse Eisenberg turns magician & bank robber

November 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Magic (of the stage variety) seems popular at the moment, with a Magic Castle movie in the works, Steve Carell starring in Burt Wonderstone and the heist thriller, Now You See Me, for which we now have the first trailer. It’s got an awesome cast, including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

Louis Letterier’s movie sees ‘The Four Horsemen, a magic super-group led by the charismatic ATLAS (Jesse Eisenberg), perform a pair of high-tech magic shows, first astonishing audiences by robbing a bank on another continent, and then exposing a white-collar criminal and funneling his millions into the audience members’ bank accounts.

‘FBI Special Agent DYLAN (Mark Ruffalo) is determined to make the magicians pay for their crimes—and to stop them before they pull off what promises to be an even more audacious heist. But he’s forced to partner with ALMA (Melanie Laurent), an Interpol detective about whom he is instantly suspicious. Out of desperation he turns to THADDEUS (Morgan Freeman), a famed magic debunker, who claims the bank heist was accomplished using disguises and video trickery. One thing Dylan and Alma agree on is that the Horsemen must have an outside point person, and that finding him (or her) is key to ending the magicians’ crime spree. Could it be Thaddeus? Or Alma? Or could it really be…magic?

‘As pressure mounts and the world awaits the Horsemen’s spectacular final trick, Dylan and Alma race to find an answer. But it soon becomes painfully clear that staying one step ahead of these masters of illusion is beyond the skills of any one man—or woman.’

It opens next June.

The Anderson family sure have a knack of getting lost in Jules Verne-ian places! Journey 2: The Mysterious Island UK Trailer

November 26, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To watch this video, you need the latest Flash-Player and active javascript in your browser.

Parody trailers that make a movie from one genre look like it’s from another (e.g. making The Shining seems like a comedy) are popular of Youtube, and now we have the same thing for an actual movie. The US trailer for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island hit a couple of weeks ago and painted this follow-up to Journey To The Center Of The Earth as a rather silly, fun family romp, but not the UK trailer turns everything far darker and more dramatic (until the end at least). It does look like it might be oddly entertaining though. Brendan Fraser bailed on this one after director Erik Brevig was replaced by Brad Peyton, and so this time Dwayne Johnson’s along for the ride, playing Hutcherson’s prospective stepfather, while Vanessa Hudgens and Luis Guzman also have to deal with various strange beasties on the titular island, all while looking for Michael Caine! It’s due in cinemas February 10th.
