First Poster For Prometheus

December 15, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

What is it with Prometheus and giant heads? The first images featured a creepy big head and now it’s in the poster too, suggesting it’s got some sort of major part to play. As the plot revolves around the search for humanity’s beginnings, finding a hugh human head on an alien spaceship would be a good hint people weren’t 100% from Earth. With the film a semi-prequel to alien, that leads to a terrifying battle to save the human race.

Ridley Scott directs with Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson starring. It hits cinemas in June.

Shame Featurette – Steve McQueen talks about his movie

December 14, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shame has attracted huge amounts of praise, and despite an NC-17 rating – often seen as a kiss of death at the box office in the US – has got off to a strong start in America, with many tipping Michael Fassbender for an Oscar. It reaches the UK on January 13th, but before then it’s worth taking a look at this featurette, which sees director Steve McQueen talking about the movie.

Bale Bails Out Of Noah, But Fassbender May Be In

December 1, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Back in June it was revealed that director Darren Aronofsky wanted Christian Bale to star in his Biblical epic Noah, although since then we haven’t heard much more about casting on the movie. However, now Deadline reports that Christian Bale has passed on the movie, while Variety adds that Michael Fassbender is being eyed to star.

It seems Fassbender hasn’t officially been offered the role yet, although he has discussed the project with Darren Aronofsky. A space has opened up in Fassbender’s diary as while he was in talks to star in Londongrad, that project has been severely delayed, due to director Rupert Wyatt having to concentrate on another Planet of The Apes movie before he can shoot anything else.

With financing now in place, the plan is to start shooting Noah next Spring, although they’ll need to get the title character cast well before then.

New Prometheus Photos Revealed

November 23, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

We’ve still got over six months to wait until Ridley Scott’s sort-of Alien prequel, Prometheus, hits screens on June 1st, but EW has jumped in early by scoring some of the first images from the movie for their print edition. Luckily though the likes of Bloody Disgusting have scanned those pics and now we can take a look for ourselves.

Everything looks a bit glossier than it did in Alien, suggesting Ridley’s going for a different style this time around, although as the shot of the carved head shows, he’s keeping with some of the production design of the actual alien vessels.

Here’s the rather low-on-info synopsis: ‘Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.’ The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson.’

Rumours suggest the first trailer will also arrive fairly soon.

Michael Fassbender Circling Londongrad

November 7, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Although a film about the Alexander Litvinenko case is unlikely to help Russian-British relations, which has been frosty ever since the incident, it’s a tale that’s so incredible it’s almost tailor-made for the movies. Now Deadline reports that actor Michael Fassbender and director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) are in negotiations to join a movie about the Kremlin critic, called Londongrad, for Warner Bros.

The project is based on Alan Cowell’s book, Sasha’s Story: The Life and Death of a Russian Spy, which is about former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko (the role Fassbender will play if he signs on), who became a fierce critic of the Russian authorities and ended up living in exile in London. However he was poisoned with radioactive materials in 2006 and publicly accused Russian president Vladimir Putin of having him killed, just before his death.

David Scarpa wrote the adapted screenplay which Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt will direct from. Johnny Depp will produce through his Infinitum Nihil banner, along with Graham King.

Simon Kinberg Writing X-Men: First Class Sequel

November 4, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

X-Men: First Class might not have made quite as much money as some of the earlier X-Men movies, but it did well enough that Fox is now putting a sequel together, and they’ve hired Simon Kinberg, who wrote the First Class, to pen the script, according to Superherohype.

Kinberg  has been involved with a wide range of action films, scripting XXX: State of the Union, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Sherlock Holmes. He also has credits on upcoming high profile pictures This Means War and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

The X-Men: First Class Sequel is still in early development, but Matthew Vaughn is expected to direct the project and the original cast of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones and Jennifer Lawrence are all expected to return.

Shame Trailer

November 2, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shame has certainly got a lot of buzz surrounding it, both from enthusastic film festival audiences and from the fact its US distributor has taken the unusual step of embracing the movie’s NC-17 rating (due to sexual content), rather than trying to cut it or release it unrated. In the movie Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister (Carey Mulligan) moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control. It’ll be in UK cinemas January 12th, but take a look at the new trailer.

Brad Pitt On For 12 Years A Slave

October 26, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Steve McQueen’s Shame is causing a bit of a fuss in the US at the moment, as it’s just been given the rarely used adult rating NC-17 (meaning nobody under 17 can watch the film). Normally if that happens – which is nearly always due to sexual content – the distributor decides to release it without a rating, but apparently Fox Searchlight is embracing the rating in the hope it can change attitudes to it (currently it’s treated as if the film must be pornographic, many cinemas won’t even think about screening it and some newspapers won’t ever take ads for NC-17 rated movies).

However while Shame if proving controversial despite much praise on the festival circuit, McQueen is busy putting his follow-up together, 12 Years A Slave. Now Screen Daily reports that the film is getting an a-list star in the form of Brad Pitt, who’ll join Michael Fassbender and Chiwetel Ejifor.

There’s no news on who Pitt will play. Indeed the only role we do now is Ejiofor’s who’ll be Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man in the mid-19th Century who was kidnapped in Washington and sold into slavery. He was rescued from a Louisiana cotton plantation in 1853. The movie, which is based on a true story, could be fascinating, especially as McQueen is proving one of the most interesting directors around.

Michael Fassbender Joins 12 Years a Slave

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

You’d have thought that Steve McQueen might have wanted to leave Michael Fassbender out of 12 Years A Slave, just so he could find out whether he could actually make a movie without him. However Variety reports that after Fassbender appeared in both of McQueen’s first two films (Hunger and Shame), he’ll also now be in his third, although we don’t know what role he’ll play.

The project is based on the true story of Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man in the mid-19th Century who was kidnapped in Washington and sold into slavery. He was rescued from a Louisiana cotton plantation in 1853.

McQueen is directing 12 Years a Slave from a screenplay he co-wrote with John Ridley. Production is scheduled to begin early next year on 12 Years a Slave.
