Rodrigo Santoro Joins Portman & Fassbender In Jane Got A Gun

February 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rodrigo-Santoro-slideRodrigo Santoro will be returning to his most famous role of Xerxes in 300: Rise Of An Empire this August, and now he’s got a new role, teaming up with Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton and Michael Fassbender for Jane Got A Gun, according to Deadline.

Lynne Ramsey is set to direct the film, which is about a woman (Portman) whose outlaw husband returns home barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds. She is forced to reach out to an ex-lover (Fassbender) and ask if he will help defend her farm when her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job. Edgerton is set to play the new leader of the gang.

Santoro meanwhile is up to play a character called Fitchum, although it hasn’t been revealed exactly how he fits into the plot.

The film is set to start shooting in April in New Mexico.

Assassin’s Creed Gets Writer Michael Lesslie

January 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

assassins-creed-game-coverFor a few months now, Michael Fassbender has been attached to the lead role in a movie version of the videogame, Assassin’s Creed. Now that project is moving forward with the news, via THR, that British playwright and screenwriter Michael Lesslie has been hired to write the screenplay.

Fassbender is set to star as a bartender who is kidnapped by a shady corporation tied to the Knights Templar secret society. The man is tasked with traveling back in time to recover ancient artifacts left behind by his ancestors, who were all deadly assassins. New Regency and Ubisoft are currently seeking a director for this adaptation.

Michael Lesslie is best known as an acclaimed playwright, whose Prince of Denmark debuted at the National Theatre in London last year.

It isn’t known when production on Assassin’s Creed may begin.

First Pic Of Michael Fassbender Wearing A Papier Mache Head In Frank

January 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fassbender-frank-sidebottomNormally when we post the first pic of a major actor in a movie, you can see their face, but Frank is not your usual film. Many will recognise the figure in the middle as Chris Sievey’s comedy creation, Frank Sidebottom, but it’s Fassbender in the giant head.

Based on a script by Jon Ronson (The Man Who Stare At Goats), the Frank character is based on the man behind Sidebottom, the late comedian and musician Chris Sievey, as well as cult musical heroes Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.

What’s not clear though is whether the movie will have Fassbender wearing the Sidebottom head all the time or not. We’ll have to wait and see. Perhaps after showing so much of himself in Shame, he’s now afraid to reveal any skin at all!

As you can see from the image, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domnhall Gleeson co-star.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what a Frank Sidebottom is, check out the Wikipedia article on Chris Sievey.

Joel Edgerton May Join Michael Fassbender & Natalie Portman In Jane Got a Gun

December 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joel Edgerton is still waiting for the movie that will properly break him in Hollywood, but now Deadline reports that The Thing and Zero Dark Thirty actor has entered talks to join the cast of Jane Got a Gun for director Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin).

Natalie Portman is already onboard to play Jane Hammond, a woman in the Old West who enlists the help of a former lover (Michael Fassbender) when a band of outlaws come searching for her husband. Joel Edgerton will play John Bishop, the villainous leader of this evil group.

Ramsay is set to direct from Brian Duffield’s Black Listed screenplay. It isn’t clear when production will begin.

Hugh Jackman May Play Wolverine In X-Men: Days Of Future Past

November 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just yesterday it was revealed that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will be back as Professor X and Magneto in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, playing opposite their younger counterparts, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. Now comes the news, via THR, that Hugh Jackman is in talks to return as Wolverine for the movie.

Of course, he very briefly turned up in X-Men: First Class, where he gave short shrift to Professor X and Magneto’s attempts to recruit him to their mutant team. He would be an interesting addition to the film, as the plot features time travel, and as Wolverine doesn’t age (or at least does so very slowly) he would look pretty much the same in both timelines.

The story sees the First Class mutants getting involved with time travel in order to prevent a terrifying future from taking place. In the comic book story arc, that future sees mutants being hunted and killed, with the survivors rounded up by Sentinels and kept in concentration camps. However if a key event can be prevented, that won’t happen. Although it hasn’t been confirmed this will be the plot of the movie, it seems likely.

The likes of Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence will also return, with shooting scheduled for early next year. Bryan Singer directs, with a July 18th, 2014 release date set.

Ian McKellen & Patrick Stewart Back For X-Men: Days Of Future Past

November 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a while now people have been wondering if X-Men: Days Of Future Past would feature both the First Class mutants and some from the original X-Men trilogy, due to the fast the comic book story arc it’s based on features time travel.

Now we know that it will indeed, as Bryan Singer, who recently picked up the directing reins when Matthew Vaughn stepped down, has revealed on his Twitter account that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are returning as the older version Professor X and Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past. He also confirmed that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are returning.

Here’s what he had to say: ‘I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, & Nicholas Hoult to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast’

Adding, ‘Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @sirpatstew are joining the cast of #XMEN#DaysOfFuturePast#magneto#professorX More to come…’

As for how the older Professor X and Magneto exist alongside the younger versions played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, he simply says, ‘The movie is called X-Men: Days of Future Past, use your imagination. More to come.’

It’s believed the plot involved the First Class X-Men getting involved in time travel in order to stop a terrifying future from happening.

Colin Firth & Michael Fassbender Will Show Genius

November 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the American Film Market in full swing, news on a number of projects is emerging, one of which is Genius, which now has Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, Shame) lined up to star.

Based on the biobraphy Max Perkins: Editor of Genius, by A. Scott Berg, Genius is about the real-life relationship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe (Fassbender) and renowned editor Max Perkins (Firth). Finding fame and critical success at a young age, Wolfe is a blazing talent with a larger-than-life personality to match. Perkins is one of the most respected and well-known literary editors of all time, discovering such iconic novelists as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. Wolfe and Perkins develop a tender, complex friendship. Transformative and irrepressible, this friendship will change the lives of these brilliant, but very different men forever.

John Logan (The Aviator, Gladiator, Hugo, Skyfall) has written the script, while Michael Grandage, who recently served as the Artistic Director of London’s famed theater the Donmar Warehouse, will be in the director’s chair.

Here’s what director Michael Grandage and producer James Bierman had to say in a joint statement, “John Logan, Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender is an extraordinary line-up to work with and we are particularly delighted to bring Glen Basner and all at FilmNation onto the team to join us as we move forward. Together, we can all now look ahead to making this project a reality and bring this amazing story to the attention of audiences everywhere.”

Cameras won’t roll until early 2014, so don’t expect to see this one for a while.

Bryan Singer Confirmed To Direct X-Men: Days of Future Past

October 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There was a bit of drama last week when despite the fact the shoot of X-Men: Days Of Future Past is already set to start in January, director Matthew Vaughn stepped down. At the time it was revealed that his most likely replacement was X-Men 1 & 2 helmer Bryan Singer, who up until that point was simply serving as a producer.

Now that’s been confirmed via Deadline, and Singer will indeed be in the director’s chair. Vaughn hasn’t completed severed all ties, as he is still attached to the project and is close to signing on as a producer alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner. He also contributed to the story.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are set to return in the leads as Xavier and Magneto, with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult as set to return. The original Days Of Future Past comic book storyline feature time travel, and features the mutants having to prevent a terrifying possible future. The film is set for release July 18, 2014.

Michael Fassbender Is Set To Be Frank Alongside Domnhall Gleeson

September 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael Fassbender is a ridiculously busy man who seems to be on a mission to appear in as many films as humanly possible. He’s just signed up for another one called Frank, which Variety reports he’ll star in alongside Domnhall Gleeson.

If Fassbender has ever dreamed of being a rock star, this will allow him to fulfill that ambition, as he’ll play the leader of an eccentric pop band, who’s joined by Gleeson’s young wannabe musician. Perhaps unsurprisingly the younger man finds himself in over his head.

Jon Ronson, who wrote the book The Men Who Stare At Goats, has come up with the script along with Peter Straughan, while Lenny Abrahamson is set to direct. It’ll start shooting sometime next year.

Michael Fassbender May Join Jane Got A Gun

August 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael Fassbender is certainly a busy man, but it appears he may have time to slot another movie in, as Vulture reports that he’s in talks to join Lynne Ramsay’s Jane Got a Gun, starring opposite the already attached Natalie Portman.

The movie a woman whose outlaw husband returns home barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds. She is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm when her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job. Portman will play the main woman, while Fassbender would be the ex-lover.

Ramsay is hoping to shoot the movie by early next year, although it doesn’t appear a firm date has been set yet, with timings presumably having to fit around Portman and Fassbender’s other commitments.
