Man Of Steel TV Spot – General Zod taunts us and wants Superman to surrender

April 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Oh, that General Zod, he’s not a very nice man (or alien). When he was Terrence Stamp he was causing trouble and trying to get the world to bow at his feet, and it seems we’ll be having similar trouble now that he’s in the form of Michael Shannon in Man Of Steel.

During the MTV Movie Awards, a new viral video aired, which sees Zod appearing through static to taunt us and demand that Kal-el, aka Superman, surrenders himself. The vid also explain why the official website was covered in static all weekend.

The movie hits cinemas this June.

There’s also Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Clark Kent’s human parents, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.

The film promises a more real-world based look at Superman than earlier movies, with the trailers suggesting plenty of angst as Clark Kent tries to work out what it means to be the most powerful being on Earth.

Nicholas Hoult, Michael Shannon, Elle Fanning & Kodi Smit-McPhee Are The Young Ones

February 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicholas-Hoult-fashion-slide
It may be called The Young Ones, but this isn’t a remake of the classic 1980s sitcom. Instead it’s a dystopian sci-fi flick which has drawn together a pretty good cast, with Variety reporting that Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hoult, Elle Fanning and Kodi Smit-McPhee have all signed on to star.

Jake Paltrow (younger brother of Gwyneth) is set to direct the movie, which about about a future where water is incredibly scarce, causing humanity to turn on itself in the scramble for the precious resource. The film focuses on an a 14-year-old boy named Jake (who we’re presuming will be played by Kodi Smit-McPhee) who must use his wits to survive.

There’s no info on exactly who the new cast members will play, but presumably they’ll be split between those who have water and those who don’t.

The project has been in development for a long time, as two years ago Casey Affleck and Jamie Bell were set to star (Fanning was also involved at that stage too), with Noah Baumbach producing. Filming started a few days ago in South Africa’s Northern Cape desert.

Michael Shannon Set To Reap The Harvest For Director John McNaughton

December 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

John McNaughton’s directing career has been pretty sporadic. He first broke out with 1986’s Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, got people hot under the collar with 1998’s Wild Things, but he hasn’t helmed a movie since Speaking Of Sex in 2002.

Now he’s planning to return with The Harvest and has signed Michael Shannon, Samantha Morton, and Natasha Calis to star, according to Variety. The film, written by Stephen Lancellotti, isn about two parents (Shannon and Morton) who live in a secluded environment with their ailing son (Charlie Tahan). When a young girl (Calis) moves in next door, it gives the boy hope for a better life, but this doesn’t please his over-protective mother. Leslie Lyles and Meadow Williams also star.

McNaughton commented, “This is the first horror script I’ve been interested in in 25 years, so it’s kind of cool to return to the genre.”

Production is already underway in New York.

Hollywood has done another remake of a genre breaking, thought provoking film noir and delivered another very average film.

The Iceman Trailer – Michael Shannon just can’t stop killing

August 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Iceman is based on the true story of notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski, nicknamed ‘The Iceman’. Michael Shannon stars as the real-life hitman who in 1986 was convicted of murdering 100 men for various crime organizations around the New York area. The twist to Kuklinski’s story was that he was also a devoted husband and father whose family was unaware of his real profession until his arrest, he was also a bona fide serial killer, having started killing people long before he took it up as a profession.

Tom Hardy & Michael Shannon Take The Long Red Road

August 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Teaming up Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon is quite a potent combination, as they have signed on to star in The Long Red Road for Paul Neesan and Richard Fant’s Whipsmart production company, according to Variety.

The film is adapted from the Brett C. Leonard play about Sam (Tom Hardy), a man who tries to drink his sorrows away on a South Dakota Indian reservation. He is forced to reevaluate his life when a face from his past comes to visit. Tom Hardy will reprise the same role he portrayed in the play, which debuted at Chicago’s Goodman Theater in 2010. Michael Shannon is playing Sam’s older brother.

Philip Seymour Hoffman directed the original play, but it isn’t known if he will take the helm on this feature adaptation.

Boardwalk Empire – Season 1 (Blu-ray)

January 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, Michael Shannon, Kelly MacDonald
Director: Various
Running Time: 700 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: January 9th, 2012

Mixing fact and fiction, the past with present sensibilities and a great cast, Boardwalk Empire hit TV with a bang. Much of the initial interest came from the fact Martin Scorsese directed the first episode, and his influence is felt throughout the 12 episodes of Season 1. With the little expense spared in the creation of 1920s Atlantic City, it’s an incredibly rich world full of well-written characters, plenty of intrigue, decadence and moments of shocking violence.

The series centres around Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), a fictionalised version of a real-life New Jersey prohibition figure, who’s the treasurer of Atlantic City and one of its most esteemed businessmen – largely because he’s got the entire city in his pocket and his criminal network is pretty much untouchable [Read more…]

Winona Ryder Boards The Iceman

December 13, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

After more than a year of trying to pull things together, The Iceman is finally getting ready to shoot, although there’s had to be a bit of a cast shuffle, with Deadline reporting that Winona Ryder will step in for Maggie Gyllenhaal in the movie.

The project is a fact-based film about Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon), a serial killer whose homicidal urgings found the perfect outlet when the mob called upong him to become a Mafia hitman. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track.

Ryder will play Kuklinski’s wife, Deborah, who was unaware that he was a contract killer and thought her hubby was a businessman. Maggie Gyllenhaal was originally down for the role, and it’s not clear why she’s left. Chris Evans will also star, playing Kulinski’s protege, Robert Pronge. Ariel Vromen will be directing from a screenplay co-written with Morgan Land, based a Anthony Bruno book “The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer”.
