Nicolas Cage Sees Paul Schrader’s Dying Of The Light

July 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicholas-CagePaul Schrader’s much talked about The Canyons is finally hitting US cinemas next month, and now he’s preparing for his next film. He’s been talking to the people at The Playlist, telling them that he’s lining up Nicolas Cage to star in his movie, The Dying Of The Light.

Schrader isn’t the first to take on Schrader’s script for the movie, as in 2010 Nicolas Winding Refn was attached to helm, but pulled out when over creative differences with his star at the time, Harrison Ford. Now it seems Schrader is set to helm himself, although it appears Refn may still produce.

The movies is about ‘a C.I.A. agent who starts to become afflicted with blindness while on his last mission’. There’s no news on exactly when it might shoot.

Nicolas Cage Joins Bad Santa Director Terry Zwigoff’s Lost Melody

July 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicholas-CageNormally Nicolas Cage is signing up for film left, right and centre, but it’s been a few months since we last heard about a new film the actor was planning to make. However now Cage is in talks to star in Lost Melody for director Terry Zwigoff, according to TheWrap.

The film is about a man who’s stuck in a marriage with a shrewish woman. Then his life is upended when he falls in love with a prostitute. The man’s wife and the prostitute have not yet been cast.

Terry Zwigoff, who’s best known for Bad Santa and Ghost World, is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Melissa Axlerod.

Producer Edward R. Pressman commented, “When considering a project, I think it most important that the director and the film live in the same universe and Terry certainly achieves this with Lost Melody. I’ve always wanted to work with Terry and am excited to be teaming on a wonderful darkly-funny drama in the tradition of such classics as The Blue Angel and Sunset Boulevard.”

It isn’t known when the film might shoot.

The Frozen Ground Trailer – Nicolas Cage & Vanessa Hudgens hunt John Cusack

June 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and Vanessa Hudgens team up for the thriller The Frozen Ground, which looks both chilly and moody in this trailer.

The film follows Alaskan State Trooper Jack Halcombe (Cage), who sets out to end the murderous rampage of Robert Hansen (Cusack), a serial killer who has gone unnoticed for 13 years. As the bodies of street girls start to pile up in Anchorage, fear strikes a chord with the public. Risking his life, Halcombe goes on a personal manhunt to find the killer before the next body surfaces. When a seventeen year old escapee (Hudgens) reveals key information about the case, Halcombe is finally on the trail of the killer. But will he catch him in time to save the next victim?

It’s due out in the US on August 26th and should reach the UK later this year. [Read more…]

Milla Jovovich, Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes & Jackie Chan In Talks For Expendables 3

June 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Milla-JovovichFor a few months, it’s been rumoured that Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan and Wesley Snipes were all wanted for The Expendables 3. Today, it has been announced that they are all in “advanced negotiations” with production slated to start this August, and there’s a female name in the mix too, Milla Jovovich.

Nothing is known about about the characters characters they will play, although it’s long been rumoured that Cage is up to play the main villain. More casting announcements are also expected in the near future, with shooting scheduled to begin in August.

Relative newcomer Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) will direct from a script by Sylvester Stallone, who will also, of course, star. (Source: Deadline)

Nicolas Cage Will Be Looking For His Daughter In Tokarev

February 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nicolas-cage3With some actors, having them sign on to a movie is like a stamp of approval, but with Nicolas Cage it’s gotten to the point where his being part of a film is more likely to make people treat it with suspicion. However we’ll be generous about Tokarev, which Deadline reports Cage has signed on for.

Spanish director Paco Cabezas (Neon Flesh) is due to make his American debut with the movie, which is about ‘Maguire, a former crook trying to find his daughter’s kidnappers and avoid falling back into his past.’

It’s a passable enough premise, but you never know with Cage, who’s made an awful lot of crap in the last few years, mixed in with a few very good movies. There’s no news on when the film might shoot.

Chad Michael Murray Will Get Left Behind With Nicolas Cage

December 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chad-michael-murrayMany were surprised when it was announced a couple of months ago that Nicolas Cage had signed up to star in a remake of the evangelical Christian based movies, Left Behind. Now One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray is in talks for the movie.

There is a little confusion, as in October it was suggested that Cage would play journalist Cameron “Buck” Williams, although now Deadline says Chad Michael Murray will play the reporter. There’s no indication that Cage has exited the production, so presumably he’ll be playing a different character.

The film, based on the novels by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye (which became a film series in the early 2000s), follows a group trying to survive in the aftermath of the Rapture, which has seen all the true Christians being spirited up to heaven, leaving everyone else behind to deal with the end of days. Paul Lalonde, who wrote the original Left Behind in 2001, and John Patus, who wrote the last installment of the earlier film series, Left Behind: World at War, are writing the screenplay.

Vic Armstrong is directing for Family Screen Pictures, with a budget set at $15 million. The original novels have sold over 65 million copies worldwide.

Travelling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures – and their outlook is changed forever.’

Nicolas Cage Confirmed For Expendables 3, With Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, and Mickey Rourke in Talks

November 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago news emerged that The Expendables 3 was already in the works and producers were trying to line up the likes of Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes and Harrison Ford for the movie. Now Sylvester Stalloned has shared his thoughts on his own personal Facebook page, and has confirmed Nicolas Cage will be taking a major role in the next adventure.

He’s also confirmed that the inclusion of Harrison Ford wasn’t a pipe dream, as he, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke may all be up for the movie. There is no mention of Steven Seagal, who’s also been rumoured for the film, and the previously mentioned Clint Eastwood seems to be out of the running as well.

Here’s what Sylvester Stallone had to say, “The Expendables 3: We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I cannot guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing The Expendables. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want. Sly Stallone”

John Woo is currently being eyed to direct this latest installment, with Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham already confirmed to return.

Nicolas Cage In Talks For Biblical Rapture Left Behind Reboot

October 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Hollywood has shown a lot of interest in biblical/religion based movies recently, in the hope of raking in some cash from US Christians. Now it appears they’re looking at rebooting the Left Behind series, based on Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins novels, which were made into a successful (low budget) series of films in the early 2000s starring Kirk Cameron.

Now THR reports that Nicolas Cage is eyeing the lead role of Cameron ‘Buck’ Williams in a big screen do-over of the end of the world thriller. This will be the first theatrical feature from faith-oriented production company Stoney Lake Entertainment. The story follows a group of survivors who are left behind after the biblical rapture takes all the faithful to heaven, and they’re left to deal with the end of days.. The original trilogy became the highest grossing Christian-themed franchise ever produced.

Let’s hope the presence of some a-list talent will ensure this doesn’t delve too far into the Christian right’s hatred of gays (Kirk Cameron has become one of the poster boys of the anti-gay movement, and likes to paint himself as a martyr because people argue back against his patronising, odious views).

With a projected budget of $15 million, this reboot will shoot in early spring with a projected release date of Fall 2013.

The Croods Teaser Trailer – First look at Dreamworks Animation’s caveman tale

October 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m not normally a big fan of Dreamworks Animation’s offering, but The Croods looks like it could be a charmer. The Croods is a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world’s first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed. Travelling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures — and their outlook is changed forever.
