Rachel McAdams Up For Cameron Crowe’s Next

April 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rachel-mcadamsRachel McAdams is in talks to join the Cameron Crowe currently untitled upcoming romantic comedy, according to THR. Assuming she does sign on, she’ll star alongside Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone.

The rom com is about a defence contractor (Bradley Cooper) who is in Hawaii to oversee the launch of a weapons satellite. However, he ends up falling for an Air Force pilot (Emma Stone) while they work together to sabotage the launch. The story also features a talking computer and supernatural island forces, so there’s a bit of everything thrown in there. Rachel McAdams will play an ex-girlfriend of Bradley Cooper’s character.

Cameron Crowe is directing from his own screenplay, with shooting scheduled to begin this September. While there’s no official title for the movie yet, the THR report suggests it may be heading back to an old title, Deep Tiki.

To The Wonder Trailer – Ben Affleck gets passionate in Terrence Malick’s film

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life certainly divided audiences and it appears that To The Wonder is destined to do the same. It’s received decidedly mixed reviews at the Toronto and Venice film festivals, but we’ll be able to see for ourselves when the film reaches UK cinemas on February 22nd.

Now a trailer has arrived, giving us our best look at the movie yet. It’s filled with swooping low-angle camera shots, Ben Affleck looking emotional and everything being incredibly pretty yet hard to decode. It’s not going to be an easy one, as Affleck has joked that it “makes Tree of Life look like Transformers.” As with Sean Penn in Tree, it’s also been said Affleck’s role has been dramatically reduced in the actual movie compared to what he filmed.

Affleck plays Neil, who falls for Marina (Olga Kurylenko) when they meet in France. The couple return to Neil’s Oklahoma hometown, but as their passion cools, Neil is drawn to his childhood sweetheart, Jane (Rachel McAdams). While the plot is fairly simple, the execution is said to be far more complex and philosophical.to-the-wonder-pic1

Detailed Plot Synopsis For Terrence Malick’s To The Wonder Released

September 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Terrence Malick’s new movie, To The Wonder, premiered at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend to mixed reviews, ranging from the underwhelmed to those who feel the director has outdone The Tree Of Life. However in typical Malick style, the plot of the movie has been a bit mysterious, but now a full synopsis has been released for the movie, which stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko and Javier Bardem (with others like Jessica Chastain having been cut out of the film).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘TO THE WONDER, written and directed by Terrence Malick, is a romantic drama centered on Neil, a man who is torn between two loves: Marina, the European woman who came to United States to be with him, and Jane, the old flame he reconnects with from his hometown. In TO THE WONDER, Malick explores how love and its many phases and seasons – passion, sympathy, obligation, sorrow, indecision – can transform, destroy, and reinvent lives.

‘As TO THE WONDER opens, Neil and Marina are together on the French island of Mont St. Michel – known in France as The Wonder of the Western World (Merveille de l’Occident) – and invigorated by feelings of being newly in love. Neil, an aspiring writer, has left the United States in search of a better life, leaving behind a string of unhappy affairs. Looking into Marina’s eyes as the Abbey looms in the distance, Neil is certain he has finally found the one woman he can love with commitment. He makes a vow to be true to this woman alone.

‘Marina, quiet and beautiful, with flashes of a mischievous humor, is divorced and the mother of a 10-year-old daughter, Tatiana. At 16, Marina left the Ukraine for Paris without a cent to her name. There, she married a Frenchman who abandoned her after just two years, leaving her alone with Tatiana in a studio apartment. Marina was forced to work a variety of temporary jobs to make her way. Having nearly given up hope, Marina is overcome with joy to be in love with Neil, her salvation from an unhappy future.

‘Two years later, Neil and Marina are living in a small town in Oklahoma, close to where Neil grew up. Neil, having given up his hopes of becoming a writer, has taken a job as an environmental inspector. Neil is happy with his work, but his love for Marina cools as she, for her part, is frustrated by the holding pattern she feels she is in with Neil. She fears her youth – and happiness – are slipping away. In spite of her anxieties about Neil, Marina initially feels at home in Oklahoma, embraced by the open space and sky, and soothed by the sounds that come from the wind harp that animates breezes into songs.

‘Seeking advice, Marina turns to another exile in the community, a Catholic priest named Quintana. We learn that Father Quintana has come to grapple with his own dilemmas, as he harbors doubts about his vocation. He no longer feels the ardor he knew in the first days of his faith, and wonders if he ever will again.

‘Professional life throws Neil into conflict as well, when he discovers that a smelting operation in town is polluting the soil and water and threatening the health of future generations. His concerns fail to persuade his neighbors, who depend on the smelter for their livelihoods. Under pressure to keep quiet, Neil must once again weigh the consequences of his actions.

‘Neil’s doubts about Marina intensify. This, coupled with the fact that Marina’s visa is soon to expire, leads her to return to France with her daughter. In her absence, Neil reconnects with Jane, an old friend. As the two of them fall deeply in love, Neil finds this new relationship far less complicated. Yet when word comes to him that Marina has fallen on hard times and her daughter has gone to live with her father and refuses to have anything more to do with her, he finds himself gripped by a sense of responsibility for her wellbeing, and arranges for her return to the United States.

‘Neil’s entanglements with the two women in his life, and Father Quintana’s struggle with his faith, force them both to consider different kinds of love. Should the commitment they each made be undertaken as a duty, sometimes full of effort? Or should we accept that love often changes, and doesn’t always last? Can sorrow bind lovers more tightly than joy?’

No UK release date is currently set, although the film has found distribution around the world, so hopefully a date will be set soon.

Passion Trailer – Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace want to lock lips

August 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

They’re really playing up the lesbian undertones of Passion, although I have a horrible feeling it’s more to appeal to the baser instincts of straight men than because this will actually be a good depiction of women’s desire. Brian De Palma teams up with Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams for a thriller about a young businesswoman plots murderous revenge after her boss and mentor steals her idea. The movie is a remake of the French movie, Love Crime. No release date is currently set.

Passion Poster – Rachel McAdams & Noomi Rapace lock lips

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

They’re really playing up the potential lesbian undertones of Passion, although I have a horrible feeling it’s more to appeal to the baser instincts of straight men than because this will actually be a good depiction of women’s desire. Hopefully I’m wrong, but the fact that both the first poster and the first image both see Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams about to kiss does suggest this is more about men’s desire than women’s.

The poster was released ahead of the movie looking for international distributors at Cannes.

Based on Alain Corneau’s film Crime d’amour, Passion is ‘An erotic thriller in the tradition of “Dressed To Kill” and “Basic Instinct” [neither of which were exactly great depictions of the LGBTQ community], Brian de Palma’s PASSION tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé Isabelle is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… Christine takes pleasure in exercising control over the younger woman, leading her one step at a time ever deeper into a game of seduction and manipulation, dominance and humiliation. But when Isabelle falls into bed with one of Christine’s lovers, war breaks out. On the night of the murder, Isabelle is at the ballet, while Christine receives an invitation to seduction. From whom? Christine loves surprises. Naked she goes to meet the mystery lover waiting in her bedroom…’

Rachel McAdams Up For Richard Curtis’ About Time

May 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a while now, Richard Curtis has been working on his next directorial venture, a time-travel comedy called About Time. A few weeks ago Zooey Dechanel was in talks for the female lead, but it seems she’s moved on, as THR reports that Rachel McAdams is now in discussions to take on the role.

Domhnall Gleeson is set to play a young man who discovers he has the ability to travel back in time. While this might sound like a rather cool power, but it begins to cause more trouble than it’s worth when he meets the woman of his dreams (McAdams). Bill Nighy, Tom Hollander, Lydia Wilson and Vanessa Kirby are also set to star.

You’d have thought McAdams might have had enough of temporally problematic lovers in The Tim Traveller’s Wife, but if things pan out, she’ll shoot About Time this summer.

Passion Photo – Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace prepare to lock lips

May 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first image has arrived from Brian De Palma’s upcoming thriller Passion, which suggests there’s going to be a bit of homoeroticism in this tale of two women locked in a power struggle. The pic above features Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams looking rather noir.
