Tom Hardy Is Looking Cute On The Arm Of Elton John As They Sell Rocketman Biopic

November 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elton-john-tom-hardy
I hope David Furnish isn’t the jealous type, as Tom Hardy and Elton John have hooked up on the eve of the American Film Market, and we have to say they make a surprisingly cute couple.

When we say ‘hooked up’, we do of course mean that they teamed up to meet potentials buyers of the upcoming Elton biopic, Rocketman, which Tom signed up to star in last week. With AFM kicking off tomorrow, Tom and Elton headed to Santa Monica to help sell the movie.

To be honest, we’re not noticing too much of a resemblance between the two, so it’ll be interesting to see what sort of transformation Tom has to go under to becoming a younger version of Elton. Or perhaps he’s just gonna be hot Elton, as he’s certainly looking good here!

Michael Gracey will direct Rocketman from a screenplay by Lee Hall. It’s previously been reported that the movie will follow Elton John’s journey from 5-year old musical prodigy who by age 11 won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, to a young man who rebelled against his strict upbringing, wore outrageous costumes and became a global icon who teamed with songwriter Bernie Taupin to sell more records that just about any musical artist of his era. It will also feature some fantastical elements and plenty of the singer’s music, in keeping with John’s larger than life personality. It’ll shoot next year.

Tom Hardy Confirmed For Elton John Biopic, Rocketman

October 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy in WarriorBack in May, Tom Hardy was rumoured to be circling the lead in the planned biopic of Elton John, Rocketman. Now ScreenDaily confirms the news, as Focus Features has just picked up the movie and says that Hardy is indeed set to star.

Michael Gracey will direct from a screenplay by Lee Hall. It will also feature some more fantastical elements and plenty of the singer’s music, in keeping with John’s larger than life personality.

Steve Hamilton Shaw of Elton’s Rocket Pictures comments, “Tom is a stellar talent who will add extraordinary depth and nuance in bringing Elton’s story to life,” said Shaw. “We are excited to have such a gifted actor on board, and equally excited to be in the hands of Peter Schlessel and the entire Focus Features team.”

Hardy is certainly an interesting choice, and hopefully it’ll allow him to show off the more playful slightly camp side that’s sometimes on display in interviews, rather than the hard man we normally see on screen.

The film will shoot during autumn 2014.

Take A Look At Tom Hardy In A Clip From The Short Film Locke

September 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy is a rare breed of actor who bulk and presence often makes you forget than underneath is an exceptionally talented actor. After all, he look like one of The Expendables but acts like he’s just waiting for an Oscar.

Now the first clip from a short film he made called Locke has emerged. The short is all Tom all the time, as it’s essentially just him driving around making phone calls.

While that may not sound that exciting, Variety’s review of the movie says it “ingeniously executed study in cinematic minimalism [with] depth, beauty and poise” and “a finely tuned showcase for Hardy’s exceptional acting skills.”

Take a look at the clip above. [Read more…]

Jason-ClarkeAussie actor Jason Clarke has been flirting with the edges of true movie stardom in the likes of The Thing, The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty and White House Down, and now he’s got another interesting role that will see him reunite with Lawless co-star Tom Hardy.

Jason Clarke is playing a man named Brodsky, who is accused of being a traitor by the MP. Noomi Rapace is Tom Hardy’s wife, with Joel Kinnaman playing the military cop’s murderous co-worker. Philip Seymour Hoffman Up To Join Tom Hardy In Child 44

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Philip-Seymour-HoffmanPhilip Seymour Hoffman recently had to go to rehab to deal with a drug problem, but it thankfully looks like he’s getting things back on track, as he’s signed to star in Child 44, according to Deadline.

Based on Tom Rob Smith’s novel, with Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa directing, the Soviet Union set thriller is about a military police officer named Leo Demidov (Hardy) who has to inverstigate a string of brutal child murders that took place during the Stalin era. As he begins to dig further and further into the case, he realises that his government is keeping a sharp eye on every move he makes, and refuses to admit that the killings are actually happening.

There’s no news on exactly who Hoffman will be playing, but he joins a cast that also includes Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Paddy Considine, and Fares Fares. Filming recently began in Prague, with a 2014 release being eyed.

Tom Hardy To Star In The Outsider, Which Could Mark Takashi Miike’s English-language Debut

June 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy

Takashi Miike is beloved by fans of Asian movies, having offered us the likes of Audition, Ichi the Killer, and 13 Assassins. He’s also incredibly prolific, often making three or four movies a year. However none of those movies has been in English. That might change though, as Deadline reports he’s in talks to helm The Outsider, with Tom Hardy likely to star.

Based on an original script developed by John Linson and rewritten by Andrew Baldwin, the film is set in post-World War II Japan, with Hardy playing an American G.I. who becomes a member of the notorious Japanese Yakuza organised crime world.

Joel Silver, who is best known for producing classics like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and The Matrix, is on-board as well. As yet, Miike hasn’t signed on the dotted line, but many people will be keen to see an English-language film from the director.

Is Tom Hardy Being Eyed For Elton John Biopic, Rocket Man?

May 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy in WarriorFor the last year or so, Elton John and David Furnish have been working on a biopic of the singer, called Rocket Man. A couple of months ago, Michael Gracey signed up to direct and it appears they’re now looking for their leading man.

If HitFix is to be believed, a perhaps surprising name is at the top of the list – Tom Hardy. It actually makes more sense than it might appear, as Hardy is far more metrosexual than his hard man image might suggest (including a small obsession with nice shoes), and if you look at pics of Elton back in the 70s, it wouldn’t be as enormous transformation for Tom as it might first appear.

At the moment it doesn’t appear a formal offer has been made, and there’s no word either of how interested Hardy may be.

It will also feature some more fantastical elements and plenty of the singer’s music, in keeping with John’s larger than life personality.

Justin Timberlake was previously rumoured for the main role, but that always appeared like it was more wishful thinking that reality. At the moment, we’ll just have to see if Hardy does end up being a Rocket Man.

Paddy Considine Joins Tom Hardy & Noomi Rapace In Child 44

May 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paddy-ConsidineTom Hardy and Noomi Rapace recently made Animal Rescue together and they’re planning to team again for Child 44 later this year. Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman have already joined them in the film, and now they have some more company, as TheWrap reports that Paddy Considine and Sweden’s Fares Fares are in talks to star in the movie.

Child 44 is set in 1950s Russia, with Hardy as a Soviet military police officer who becomes the target of his suspicious government while he’s investigating a string of child murders. Joel Kinnaman will play the killer responsible for these brutal deaths, while Noomi Rapace is Hardy’s wife. Oldman meanwhile is the head of police who becomes suspicious of Hardy’s character and starts investigating him.

There’s no news on exactly who Considine will play, but Fares will be one of Hardy’s trusted allies. Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) is set to direct.

Tom Hardy Wants To Go To Bed With Gerard Butler

April 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hardy-gerard-butler1 tom-hardy-gerard-butler2 tom-hardy-gerard-butler3 tom-hardy-gerard-butler4If you’ve never seen RockNRolla, it features Tom Hardy as Handsome Bob, who’s in the closet and has a semi-secret crush of Gerard Butler’s One-Two.

The moment above is one that’s great to revisit now that Tom’s a lot more famous and we can all wish he was asking to come to our beds.

It’s not impossible either, as he’s admitted in the past to having a bit of a fiddle with men in his youth, even if he’s now decidedly straight. It’s certainly enough to keep our dreams alive. (GIFs via WoW, FormerMaleProstitute & DragQueenNeame)

Jason Statham & Tom Hardy Rumoured For Escape From New York Remake Lead

March 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-statham-crankWe’d take this a speculative rumour at the moment, but The New York Daily News is reporting that with Joel Silver and Studio Canal recently revealing they’re teaming up for another crack at putting together a remake of Escape From New York, they’re looking at casting either Jason Statham or Tom Hardy in the lead role of Snake Plissken.

The paper’s source, who’s described as a Hollywood insider close to the film’s producers,  says the studio believes that Statham “has the physical attributes and screen presence to reprise Snake”, while Hardy’s turn in The Dark Knight Rises was impressive enough to get consideration. However it doesn’t sound like either actor has been approached, so they may not be interested. Either way, the remake is hoping to get its Plissken cast by the end of the summer.

There’s no director attached to the film yet – which is being planned as a trilogy that will take into account Snake’s origins – and it’s not clear when it might shoot.
