300: Rise Of An Empire (Blu-ray Review)

September 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, Jack O'Connell, Lena Headey
Director: Noam Murro
Running Time: 102 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 29th 2014 (UK)

Ever since 300 became a surprise blockbuster they’ve been talking about a sequel. However it kept getting put back due to the fact comic creator Frank Miller hadn’t finished the graphic novel it was supposed to be based on. Eventually they decided to go ahead anyway, and so we have 300: Rise Of An Empire.

The movie is a sidequel to the earlier film, following the men of Athens before, during and after what happened to Gerard Butler and his Spartans (and in case you’re wondering, the shirtlessness and six pack abs are back, although the Athenians aren’t quite as hulking as the Spartans). New 300: Rise Of An Empire Trailer Arrives – Sullivan Stapleton gets stylised & shirtless

January 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After several years of delays (partly to give Frank Miller time to finish his follow-up graphic novel), 300: Rise Of An Empire is heading to cinemas in March. To help get us interested once again in the world of stylised ancient Greece, a new trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

‘300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.’ [Read more…]

Sullivan Stapleton Gets Angry In A New 300: Rise Of An Empire Poster

The poster above is ample confirmation that 300: Rise Of An Empire is not going to be a happy little movie where everyone is nice to one another. Nope, as in the first movie, we can expect plenty of stylised ancient Greek violence.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, 300: Rise Of An Empire stars Sullivan Stapleton (“Animal Kingdom”), Eva Green (“Casino Royale”), Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”), Callan Mulvey (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Jack O’Connell (“Skins”), Rodrigo Santoro (“Love Actually”) and is directed by Noam Murro.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

‘“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.’

New 300: Rise Of An Empire Trailer – Sullivan Stapleton takes on stylised, homoerotic ancient Greece

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s surprising they managed to invent democracy in ancient Greece, as if the 300 franchise is anything to go by, half the times things happened in slow-motion, before suddenly going really fast. If you’d though replacing Zack Snyder with Noam Murro for 300: Rise Of An Empire would result in a different visual style, it’s clear from the trailers that it won’t.

Sullivan Stapleton stars, with a release set for March 2014. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

New Posters: How To Train Your Dragon 2 & Sullivan Stapleton In 300: Rise Of An Empire

July 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

how-to-train-dragon-2-poster1Comic-Con has seen a slew of posters released, although we’re now coming to an end of those with the release of a rather cool poster for How To Train Your Dragon 2, and one for 300: Rise Of An Empire, featuring the lead character played by Sullivan Stapleton.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 ‘brings back the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years later. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.’

As you can see, Hiccup’s a bit more grown up in this one. It’ll in in cinemas June 2014.

300: Rise Of An Empire meanwhile sees Sullivan Stapleton as Themistokles, who tries to unite all of Greece in battle against the massive Persian army lead by Xerxes and the cunning Artemisia (Eva Green). It’s out March 2014.

Rodrigo Santoro Gets A 300: Rise Of An Empire Xerxes Poster

One of the few members of the original 300 cast to return for the follow-up, 300: Rise Of An Empire, is Rodrigo Santoro, who will once more play the nefarious Xerxes. In the run-up to the film’s appearance at Comic-Con, a poster featuring the villainous god-man has been released, which you can see above.

Rise Of An Empire sees Sullivan Stapleton as Themistokles, who tries to unite all of Greece in battle against the massive Persian army lead by Xerxes and the cunning Artemisia (Eva Green). As the poster suggest, Xerxes wants Athens to burn.

Noam Murro directs the movie, which was recently delayed from an August release to March 2014.

300-rise-of-an-empire-poster3300: Rise Of An Empire may have been delayed from a Summer 2013 to Winter 2014 release, but it’s still hoping to make a strong showing at Comic-Con next weekend, and to help prepare they’ve released a new Comic-Con poster for the movie.

The follow-up to 300, which runs parallel to the earlier movie, stars Sullivan Stapleton as General Themistokles, who attempts to unite all of Greece in battle against the evil Persian ruler Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Expect plenty more stylised violence!

300: Rise Of An Empire Trailer – Hyperstylised, homoerotic ancient Greece is back

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A lot of things happened in slow-motion in ancient Greece if the 300 franchise is anything to go by. If you’d though replacing Zack Snyder with Noam Murro for 300: Rise Of An Empire would result in a different visual style, this trailer is here to show it won’t – indeed if anything it’s even more like 300 than 300 was.

Sullivan Stapleton Gets His Shirt Off In A New 300: Rise Of An Empire Poster

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

300-rise-of-an-empire-poster2
The first trailer for 300: Rise Of An Empire is set to arrive in the next 24 hours, and to herald that, a new poster has been released, which shows Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) looking a bit fed up with battle, and about to be crushed by a blood-red wave.

In the film, which runs pretty much parallel to the first 300 movie, Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece in battle against the evil Persian ruler Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro).

Noam Murro is directing, with Zack Snyder directing. While Rise Of An Empire had been due to hits cinemas this August, it’s now been pushed back to March 7th, 2014 (the same time of year the first film was released).

First Look At Eva Green In 300: Rise Of An Empire

April 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

300-rise-of-an-empire-pic3After years of delays, the follow-up to 300 is finally on its way, with 300: Rise Of An Empire due to hit cinemas this summer. We had the first couple of pics and a poster a few days ago, and now we get our first look at Eva Green in the movie, who’s looking pretty bad-ass as she stands on a ship, swords in hand.

The film stars Sullivan Stapleton as General Themistokles, who attempts to unite all of Greece in battle against the evil Persian ruler Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Eva Green plays Artemisia, the vengeful second-in-command to god-king Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), who leads a Persian armada against a Greek army. The plot is said to run parallel to 300.

The film hits cinemas this August.
