Zack Snyder Confirmed To Direct Justice League

April 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-snyder-slideThere’s been a presumption that the planned Batman Vs. Superman movie will lead to a Justice League film. However until now Warner has officially confirmed that. Now though they’ve not just said it’s going to happen, they’ve announced Zack Snyder will direct.

Batman Vs. Superman begins production next month, and there’s some suggestion that Justice League will shoot back to back with that movie, although that’s not been confirmed.

It appears if they’re shooting separately we’ll get Justice League in 2018, but if it’s back to back it’ll be 2017.

Specific plot or casting details have not been revealed, but it is almost certain that Henry Cavill will return as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonderwoman. Ray Fisher is expected to make a cameo in Batman Vs. Superman as Cyborg and then appear in Justice League.

There’s no confirmation on what other DC superheroes might appear in the movie.

Christian Bale Confirms The End Of His Batman Days

July 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While it seemed that The Dark Knight Rises marked the end of Christian Bale as Batman, many having been holding onto the slim hope that he’d have a change of heart and return for Justice League.

However Bale confirmed to EW that he is not returning to play Batman. When asked about his possible involvement in Justice League, the actor revealed that he hasn’t been approached to even consider joining Justice League.

He says, “We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy. Chris (Nolan) always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well. I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”

Back in March, there was a speculative rumour that Christopher Nolan was developing Justice League with Christian Bale returning as Batman. That story turned out to be false, with Warner Bros. executive Jeffrey Robinov revealing in April that the director’s Batman trilogy stands on its own.

At the moment it seems Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is going to helm Justice League, but that has not been confirmed.

Zack Snyder Confirms He’s The Top Choice For Justice League

April 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-snyderWith Christopher Nolan ruling himself out of directing Warner Bros’ planned Justice League movie, the studio is reportedly looking at Zack Snyder to direct their superhero ensemble. The news comes from the Watchmen and Sucker Punch helmer himself, in an interview with Empire Magazine.

He says, “Warner Bros.’ long-term view has been revised to embrace this new vision, just as The Dark Knight films resisted the commodification of Marvel. Whether we get a Justice League, they say, depends on Man of Steel. If we do, they say, Zack Snyder will be asked to direct.”

It confirms what director Ruben Fleischer said when he was asked about rumours he was on the short list of candidates to direct Justice League last year. Ruben said, “Well that’s something that Zack Snyder is going to wind up doing.”

Justice League has been rumoured for years, and while the success of The Avengers gave the idea a big breath of life, it’s still far from sure we’ll ever get to see the movie. Man Of Steel will probably have to be a huge hit to make it a reality.

Christian Bale Returning As Batman For Justice League, With Chris Nolan Producing?

March 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dark-knight-rises-bd-review-slideUntil there’s anything even vaguely official, I’d take this one with a pinch of salt, but Latino Review reports that suggests Christopher Nolan has agreed to take on producer duties on the long-planned Justice League movie. They also suggest Christian Bale may return as Batman and Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman.

In recent months Justice League has been in trouble, with reports that Warner hated Will Beall’s script and that they would have to start again from scratch. Along with that issue, there have been suggestion the scope of the project is scaring many at DC. While they want to catch up to Marvel’s cinematic universe, they’re also aware that if Justice League turns out to be a disaster, it could severely harm several key characters’ chances on the big screen. Many believe that Justice League’s fate rests solely on whether this summer’s Man of Steel becomes a major hit.

With so many worries and uncertainties, one of the few things that would be likely to give everyone a bit of confidence would be getting Chris Nolan on-board in some capacity. If Latino Review is correct, he’s now agreed to do that, shepherding the project to the screen just as he did with Man of Steel.

This means that Christian Bale may return as Batman, even though he stated multiple times that The Dark Knight Rises would be his last turn as Bruce Wayne. That said, the actor did hint in a recent interview that if Christopher Nolan came to him with another Batman story, he might be interested in donning the cowl once again.

It is also being said that Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will produce Justice League alongside Christopher Nolan, and that he may possibly end up directing Justice League. The suggestion is that Christopher Nolan is going to be developing/shepherding all of Warner’s superhero projects from now on, in a similar way to what Mark Millar is doing at Fox, and Joss Whedon at Marvel. Nothing has been confirmed by the studio, so consider this information a slightly dubious rumor for now.

Has The Justice League Superhero Lineup Been Revealed?

January 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justice-leagueLast month rumours emerged that the villain in Justice League would be Darkseid, and now a new report via Comic Book News has what they say is the full line-up of supheroes for the movie. While we knew Batman and Superman would be included, the report includes various others who should be part of the movie.

Perhaps most intriguingly is that if the report is correct, it’s our clearest suggestion yet that DC wants Henry Cavill in the Superman role and may also try to get Ryan Reynolds back as Green Lantern.

Here’s what CBN says:
• Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.

• Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn’t really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written.

• Wonder Woman: She has only been in man’s world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie.

• Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold’s character from the Green Lantern movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.

• Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.

• Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.

• Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.• There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.

• Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.

• Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.

• Darkseid’s Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.

Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is writing the film, which is currently being planned for a 2015 release (the same year as Avengers 2).

Has The Justice League Movie Villain Been Revealed?

December 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s nothing official about this one and don’t be surprised if it turns out to be completely wrong, but the guys over at Latino Review say they knows somebody who’s gotten their hands on a few pages of Will Beall’s Justice League script, and that they now know who the villain is.

They say that the villain will be Darkseid, the supreme monarch of the planet Apokolips. Although he isn’t that well known to the general public, it’s said he’s the greatest threat to the DC Universe.

Here’s his official description: ‘Darkseid is the ruler of Apokolips and Darkseid’s Elite and was a major player in the cosmic war that was the Final Crisis. Unto the hell that is Apokolips came Darkseid, malice personified, a merciless tyrant who demanded unwavering devotion and abject fear from all his subjects. A being of unparalleled strength, Darkseid nevertheless preferred not to sully his gloves with combat unless provoked to action. His eyes emitted the formidable Omega Sanction, ray beams that could disintegrate, teleport, or resurrect depending on the dread lord’s wishes. His sole mission in life was to find and gain control over the Anti-Life Equation which would give him the means to usurp all free will in the sentient universe. Darkseid first appeared in Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #134 (December, 1970), and was created by Jack Kirby.’

He doesn’t sound very nice, does he? He’s certainly the sort of bad guy who’d need a team of superheroes to defeat him. We don’t know exactly which heroes will be featured in the movie, although Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are fairly certain bets. However some have already suggested that Darkseid is too similar to Avengers 2 villain Thanos, although Beall’s script may be able to differentiate him completely.

At this time, Justice League does not have a set director or any cast members lined up. Warner Bros. is waiting see how well Man of Steel does next summer, before moving full steam ahead on Justice League, which is scheduled for the summer of 2015 (the same summer as The Avengers 2 arrives in cinemas).

Will Joseph Gordon-Levitt Play Batman In Justice League?

November 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few years ago, George Miller was planning a Justice League movie that would feature Batman and Superman, but would feature completely different actors in those roles than in the stand-alone films, with a separate continuity. When Warner Bros announced a few months back they were resurrecting the idea of a Justice League film, it wasn’t clear if this would tie into Man Of Steel and Nolan’s Batman film or not.

Now it seems they might, as talking to the New York Post, Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder says about Justice League, “They trust me to keep them on course” for that film. That may be talking in the vaguest of terms, but it’s a long way from a few months ago, when he said, “What they’ll do with Justice League will be its own thing with its own Batman and own Superman.”

Although he doesn’t confirm anything, it does suggest Cavill may now be playing Superman in both Man Of Steel and Justice League – something Warner could easily do as they signed Cavill to a multi-film deal when he agreed to the role.

But what about Batman? Well, the idea of Christian Bale coming back is very, very unlikely, but what about Joseph Gordon Levitt, who after Dark Knight Rises could easily don the cowl? According to Hitfix, that’s the current thinking at Warner Bros. Hitfix says JGL is already set for Justice League (although it may not be as definite as they suggest), and could even pop up in Man Of Steel, with Warner/DC essentially starting to build their own Marvel style cross-over universe. We’ll have to wait and see though.

The Avengers has certainly shaken up the superhero world, with everyone else now racing to build their own connected universe. Even Fox is trying to find continuity by hiring Mark Millar to oversee the properties it owns, such as X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Justice League is currently planned for release in 2015.

Justice League Movie Aims For Summer 2015

October 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For the last few months Warner has stepped up development of a Justice League movie, but one big problem they faced is ongoing legal action from the estates of the creator of Superman, which would have seen certain rights to the character handed back to them. Man Of Steel was deliberately rushed into production to beat a deadline that would have seen them losing film rights to the character.

However, while it looked like everything about Superman in Action Comic No. 1 would go back to the creators’ heirs, Warner has now won a big battle that should allow them to keep the rights, based on a renegotiation of the rights in the 1990s, that the court says means the heirs can’t now claim the copyright back.

Quick on the heels of that, the LA Times reports that Warner Bros. and DC Comics are now planning to release Justice League of America in the summer of 2015. This is the same summer that will see The Avengers 2, so it’s certainly going to be a summer of suphero mash-ups.

This film should bring together Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, and other iconic characters. A script is currently in the works, with a director and actors to be announced in the near future. There are also plans already underway for a Man of Steel sequel.

Andy & Lana Wachowski Join Justice League Shortlist

August 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Warner Bros. is currently hunting for a director to take the helm on their planned Justice League of America movie. Recently it was reported that ben Affleck had been offered the job, but it’s now been confirmed he won’t take the job. he’s told the Canadian press (via THR) that “It sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.”.

Now Moviehole has word that Warner is now considering Cloud Atlas directors Andy and Lana Wachowski for the superhero ensemble. The studio is reportedly very excited about Cloud Atlas’ immense scope and its ensemble cast, two things the Justice League of America movie will certainly have.

It isn’t clear if a formal offer has been made to the siblings or if it’s just an idea the studio’s had at the moment. They also have projects such as Cobalt Neutral 9 and Jupiter Ascending in the works, although it isn’t known if either of those will be their next picture (and both may have funding issues, which have already delayed the ‘gay Iraq war story’ Cobalt Neutral 9.

Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is working on the Justice League screenplay, which will likely bring together DC Comics luminaries such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern.

Justice League Movie Eyes Director Ben Affleck

August 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last month Chris Nolan unsurprisingly turned down Warner Bros.’ offer to direct the DC superhero ensemble movie, Justice League of America, and so the studio has moved on the eyeing  Ben Affleck to helm the movie, at least according to Variety.

The actor-director, who made the upcoming Argo for Warner Bros., is expected to meet with the studio in the next few days to discuss the project. It is said that he is the only director to be given the new screenplay, written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad). However things may have already broken down in the talks, as Deadline reports Affleck’s reps say he’s not taking the job. It’s not all over yet, and Ben may yet take the job, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Although no story or character details have been confirmed, Justice League will likely bring together DC heroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. It is also interesting to note that Ben Affleck has indicated he is only interested in directing movies that he also stars in, a notion that leaves one to wonder which of these superhero characters the multi-hyphenate is interested in playing.
