Omar Sy Joins X-Men: Days Of Future Past

March 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

omar-syWith the X-Men: Days Of Future Past shoot approaching fast, director Bryan Singer is busy putting the final touches to the cast. In the last few weeks the news has been mainly about the slew of old X-Men who will be returning to the franchise, such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore (with Halle Berry likely if a few contract details can be sorted).

Then a few days ago it was revealed Peter Dinklage had joined the movie and now Director Bryan Singer has revealed yet another new cast member, with The Intouchables (Untouchable) star Omar Sy signing on for an unspecified role.

Singer tweeted, ‘Thrilled to welcome the brilliant #OmarSy from the amazing film #TheIntouchables to the cast of #Xmen#DaysofFuturePast!— Bryan Singer’

As with Dinklage’s character, the filmmaker didn’t reveal who Omar Sy will play. However there’s been some speculation that he will portray Bishop, a mutant who has the ability to absorb all forms of radiation and energy and release it through his body. He’s featured in the original comic book arc, but there’s been no confirmation he’ll be in the film.

First Class actors James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult also return, with the shoot expected to begin in April.

Bryan Singer Reveals Professor X’s Past & Future Wheelchairs

February 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

x-men-days-of-future-past-wheelchairs
We all know that Patrick Stewart’s Professor X uses a wheechair, and in Days Of Future Past, James McAvoy’s younger version will need one too. Now Bryan Singer has given us a look at both the past and present versions of the chair that both actors will use in the upcoming, time-travelling mutant movie.

Looking at them, they’re not really that different, suggesting that when the Professor finds a design he likes, he sticks with it.

Singer tweeted the pic, along with the message, ‘Hello old friends #XMen #DaysofFuturePast’.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past hits cinemas summer 2014.

Peter Dinklage On For X-Men: Days of Future Past

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

peter-dinklagePeter Dinklage is fast on his way to becoming the first little person to become a mainstream international star, especially after winning a Golden Globe and Emmy for Game Of Thrones. Now he’s heading into superhero territory as Bryan Singer has tweeted that he’s joined the cast of X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Singer says, “Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!”

Unfortunately there’s no news on who Dinklage will play in the movie, which will bring the First Class actors face-to-face with the future X-Men in a time-travelling plot. The Days Of Future Past comic book storyline sees the future under the control of the Sentinels and mutants living in internment camps. The X-Men of the past are warned about this, as well as the fact they can stop it happening if they prevent an assassination in their time.

First Class’ James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult are all set to return, with original X-Men Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore also back in the mutant fold.

A july 18th 2014 3D release has been set.

Ellen Page, Anna Paquin & Shawn Ashmore Back For X-Men: Days of Future Past

January 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

x-men-trioWe already knew a lot of the old mutants were coming back for X-Men: Days Of Future Past – such as Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen – and a few days ago Hugh promised we’d see more familiar faces too.

Now we know at least some of them, as director Bryan Singer has been tweeting, ‘Very excited to welcome #annapaquin, @ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen#DaysofFuturePast – thank you @brettratner for letting them live!’

Anna Paquin starred in the first three films as Rogue, while Shawn Ashmore was Iceman. Ellen Page meanwhile was Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand, taking over from Sumela Kay who played that part in the first film, and Katie Stuart who was Kitty in X2: X-Men United!

Although it’s not known how close the film will stick to the comic book version of the Days Of Future Past storyline, Kitty Pryde has an important role to play on the page, and it’s being speculated it’ll be the same in the film. And of course all these old faces will star alongside the First Class mutants in a time travel plot.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past should start shooting soon with a release date of July 18th 2014 already set.

Hugh Jackman Confirmed As Wolverine For X-Men: Days of Future Past

December 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hugh-jackman-wolverine-pic1A couple of weeks ago it was revealed that Hugh Jackman was in talks to play Wolverine once more in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Now it’s been confirmed that he will indeed be part of the movie, with director Bryan Singer tweeting, ‘I would officially like to welcome @realhughjackman to the cast of #Xmen Days of Future Past. Very excited!More to come…’

As Days Of Future Past is a time-travel tale and Wolverine doesn’t age very much, Jackman could appear in either the past or future sections of the plot, or indeed both. The plot sees the younger Professor X, Magneto and other mutants having to time-travel in order to prevent a terrible future from occuring. This means that James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will get to interact with their older counterparts, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

Hugh Jackman is also playing the mutant in James Mangold’s The Wolverine. The film tells the story of Logan’s samurai training in Japan. It will hit theaters July 26th, 2013. X-Men: Days Of Future Past meanwhile hits cinemas in 2014.

Halle Berry & James Marsden Wanted For X-Men: Days of Future Past

December 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If all goes to plan, there are going to be a hell of a lot of superheroes in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. We already knew the First Class mutants would be meeting up with Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart & possibly Hugh Jackman from the earlier X-Men movies, but now THR reports that Halle Berry, James Marsden and others are being sought too.

It isn’t clear if Fox has issued proper offers to the actors, although the THR story suggest others earlier X-Men are being contacted too to see if they can becomes part of the movie, although we don’t know which ones. There is said to be a lot of ‘willingness to participate’ now that director Bryan Singer has returned to the director’s chair.

So don’t be surprised if we hear the likes of Anna Paquin, Rebecca Romijn and Ben Foster are returning in the the next few weeks. Bryan Singer is directing from a screenplay by Simon Kinberg, with Matthew Vaughn still attached as a producer, despite dropping out as the director.

Hugh Jackman May Play Wolverine In X-Men: Days Of Future Past

November 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just yesterday it was revealed that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will be back as Professor X and Magneto in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, playing opposite their younger counterparts, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. Now comes the news, via THR, that Hugh Jackman is in talks to return as Wolverine for the movie.

Of course, he very briefly turned up in X-Men: First Class, where he gave short shrift to Professor X and Magneto’s attempts to recruit him to their mutant team. He would be an interesting addition to the film, as the plot features time travel, and as Wolverine doesn’t age (or at least does so very slowly) he would look pretty much the same in both timelines.

The story sees the First Class mutants getting involved with time travel in order to prevent a terrifying future from taking place. In the comic book story arc, that future sees mutants being hunted and killed, with the survivors rounded up by Sentinels and kept in concentration camps. However if a key event can be prevented, that won’t happen. Although it hasn’t been confirmed this will be the plot of the movie, it seems likely.

The likes of Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence will also return, with shooting scheduled for early next year. Bryan Singer directs, with a July 18th, 2014 release date set.

Ian McKellen & Patrick Stewart Back For X-Men: Days Of Future Past

November 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a while now people have been wondering if X-Men: Days Of Future Past would feature both the First Class mutants and some from the original X-Men trilogy, due to the fast the comic book story arc it’s based on features time travel.

Now we know that it will indeed, as Bryan Singer, who recently picked up the directing reins when Matthew Vaughn stepped down, has revealed on his Twitter account that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are returning as the older version Professor X and Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past. He also confirmed that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are returning.

Here’s what he had to say: ‘I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, & Nicholas Hoult to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast’

Adding, ‘Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @sirpatstew are joining the cast of #XMEN#DaysOfFuturePast#magneto#professorX More to come…’

As for how the older Professor X and Magneto exist alongside the younger versions played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, he simply says, ‘The movie is called X-Men: Days of Future Past, use your imagination. More to come.’

It’s believed the plot involved the First Class X-Men getting involved in time travel in order to stop a terrifying future from happening.

Bryan Singer Confirmed To Direct X-Men: Days of Future Past

October 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There was a bit of drama last week when despite the fact the shoot of X-Men: Days Of Future Past is already set to start in January, director Matthew Vaughn stepped down. At the time it was revealed that his most likely replacement was X-Men 1 & 2 helmer Bryan Singer, who up until that point was simply serving as a producer.

Now that’s been confirmed via Deadline, and Singer will indeed be in the director’s chair. Vaughn hasn’t completed severed all ties, as he is still attached to the project and is close to signing on as a producer alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner. He also contributed to the story.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are set to return in the leads as Xavier and Magneto, with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult as set to return. The original Days Of Future Past comic book storyline feature time travel, and features the mutants having to prevent a terrifying possible future. The film is set for release July 18, 2014.

Matthew Vaughn Out As X-Men: Days of Future Past Director

October 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This is a bit of a surprise. Matthew Vaughn cleared the boards back in January, including handing off Kick Ass 2 to Jeff Wadlow, so that he could concentrate on preparing to shoot X-Men: Days Of Future Past. However now word has dropped, via Deadline, that Vaughn has bowed out, although no reason has been given for why he’s left the director’s chair.

20th Century Fox is said to have Bryan Singer on the top of their short list to replace the director. Singer and Vaughn are both still attached to produce, alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and screenwriter Simon Kinberg. Singer stepping in to direct is apparently a very real possibility, although it much will depend on whether he has time to do it, as he has Jack The Giant Slayer due out next March, and the X-Men movie is due to shoot early January.

The Days of Future Past comic book story line takes place in an alternate future where mutants are hunted down by Sentinels. No concrete story details have been released for this sequel as of yet. Fox will try to move quickly to get a new director, as they won’t want to delay filming, having already ensured the entire cast have cleared their schedules for early next year.
