Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin’s Husbands Will Hook Up In A New Gay-Themed Netflix Series

March 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jane-Fonda-lily-tomlin
In 1980 Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton teamed up for 9 To 5 and in the process became a bit of a one-off legendary partnership. Now Tomlin and Fonda are reuniting for a new series on Netflix, called Grace And Frankie, and it’s even got a little gay interest thrown in for good measure.

The comedy focuses on nemeses Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin) facing the last chapter of their lives, though not in the way they expected. When their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to get married, the women find their lives both turned upside down and – to their dismay – permanently intertwined. Eventually, to their surprise, they find they have each other.

13 half-hour episodes of the show, which comes from Friends creator Marta Kauffman and Emmy nominee Howard J. Morris, are planned. It should go live this summer.

“Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among the funniest and most formidable actresses ever and it’s an incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “The show created for them by Marta and Howard is warm, very funny and anything but wholesome. We can’t wait.”

Now we just need to get Dolly involved!

Out Actor B.D. Wong Is Coming Back For Jurassic World

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bd-wongThere have been a lot of people wondering if the likes of Sam Neill or Jeff Goldblum would return for Jurassic Park. It doesn’t look like either of them will, but that doesn’t mean there’ll be nobody from the earlier films in the movie, as director Colin Trevorrow has confirmed that at least one character from the very first movie will be back.

He told IGN, “I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go. But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world. This hasn’t been announced yet, but B.D. Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story.”

B.D. Wong’s Wu only appeared in the first movie, talking to Sam Neill and co. about how Ingen created the dinos and what they’d done to ensure they don’t breed or go on the rampage (not enough, as it turned out). He certainly makes sense for the new movie, which is said to take place on the original island which has bounced back from disaster to becomes a fully functioning dinosaur theme park.

Wong joins a cast that also includes Chris Pratt, Idris Elba, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Vincent D’Onofrio and Irrfan Khan.

Trevorrow also talked the characters being playedby Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. saying “He’s a classic hero in a very modern context. He’s the guy who will get you through the jungle alive – but like Malcolm, Grant and Sattler, he’s an expert in a scientific field that’s connected to our story. The character allows us to explore some new ideas about our relationship with these animals, without losing the humor and sense of adventure. He’s a great contrast for Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, who starts off very corporate, very controlled. Until the running and screaming starts. Then they need each other.”

He also says they’re going to be a little unusual in technical terms too, taking a step back from the digital world that moviemaking has become. “We’re shooting 35mm and 65mm film,” he says. “We’re also using an aspect ratio that hasn’t been seen theatrically in a very long time. The movie will be presented in 2 to 1. It’s basically a middle ground between 2.35 and 1.85. It allows us enough height to fit humans and dinosaurs into a single frame, without giving up that sense of scope. It’s very close to the ratio of the digital IMAX screens, so it will look great in large format. I think other filmmakers will want to give it a try when they see how it looks. It’s very comfortable.”

Love or Whatever Trailer – A gay guy has to start over when his boyfriend dumps him for a woman in the new comedy

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are an awful lot of gay-themed movies about men in relationships with women who end up going off with a guy, but what about the other way around? After all, it’s not unheard of. That’s the premise for Love Or Whatever, which you can watch the trailer for above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Corey had it all – a successful career, bags of charm and, most of all, a bright future with his boyfriend. But, when his other half commits the ultimate betrayal and dumps him for a woman, he embarks upon a wild journey of self-discovery. Soon, he meets a potentially perfect new guy but first he needs to make some life-changing choices. Sexy and genuinely funny (including a hilarious star turn from “The Brady Bunch Movie’s” Jennifer Elise Cox), “Love or Whatever” is the freshest, funniest gay comedy around.’

It’s due out in the UK on May 12th. [Read more…]

I’m a Porn Star Trailer – Why do guys decide to do the gay nasty on screen? (NSFW)

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

im-a-porn-star-cover
A quick look at the internet will tell you there isn’t a shortage of guys prepared to strip down and show everything they’ve got in the world of porn. But who are these people and why do they decide to do it? If is fun? Are they nympho perverts? Are they desperate for cash and will do anything to get it?

While there’s been a fair amount of attention paid to female porn stars – with opinions ranging from it being empowering to the exploitation of desperate and damaged women (it all depends on what the people looking wanted to find, funnily enough) – there have been fewer looks at the men of gay porn.

The documentary I’m A Porn Star attempts to redress the balance, and on the evidence of this trailer, wants to do so in a sexy way! It also suggests that with so much porn on the internet, those involved in the industry may not be as far away as you might have thought. It also includes interviews with the likes gay porn luminaries Brent Everett, Colby Jansen and Johnny Rapid.

An August US release has been set, and as you might have hoped there’s a warning that ‘This documentary is meant for adults and contains some scenes of graphic sexuality. Viewer discretion is advised.’ But I’m sure you’d only be interested in the more philosophical aspects of the doc, of course.

Take a look at the NSFW trailer below. [Read more…]

Man At Bath (Homme Au Bain) Trailer – Francois Sagat goes legit actor in the gay-themed drama

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Francois Sagat made a major splash in gay porn, but anyone who’s seen the recent documentary about him, Sagat, will know he’s a man who sees himself as a bit of an artist with his sex scenes being an extension of that. Now he’s branching out into legit acting with a lead role in Man At Bath, and we can get our first look at him in the movie with a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Emmanuel (François Sagat) is a gay hustler living with his lover, the filmmaker Omar (played by Omar Ben Sellem) outside Paris. After a quarrel between the two, Emmanuel is left brokenhearted to fend for himself as Omar makes his way to Manhattan. The film separately follows the two men, discovering how their heartbreak gives way to fresh outlooks and doleful acceptance.

‘From director Christophe Honoré (Ma mere, Love Songs).’

American Pastor Believes Frozen Is All About Trying To Make Kids Gay

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

frozen-pic7

Remember how after you watched The Lion King, you ran away from home and lived with a warthog and a meerkat? Or when Beauty & The Beast forced you to try out bestiality? No, me neither, but apparently Frozen might make kids gay, and Disney has done that deliberately.

At least that’s what Colorado Pastor Kevin Swanson believes and which he espoused in a sermon, telling listeners of his radio show, ‘Man, how many children are taken into these things and how many Christians are taking their kids off to see the movie Frozen, produced by an organization that is probably one of the most pro-homosexual organizations in the country? You wonder sometimes, I’m not a tinfoil hat conspiratorialist, but you wonder sometimes if maybe there’s something very evil happening here. If I was the Devil, what would I do to really foul up an entire social system and do something really, really, really evil to 5- and 6- and 7-year-olds in Christian families around America?’

Yep, Mickey Mouse is the Devil.

I know many people who believe that Christianity’s worst enemies are other Christians of the ilk of Kevin Swanson. And the media (and yes, I include myself) has to take some of the blame for that, for helping give these people a pulpit and making their wingnut proclamations seem more like mainstream Christian opinion than it is. Indeed many Christians are very LGBT friendly, but you never hear about them, largely because saying nice things about gay people isn’t generally as interesting as when someone suggests Disney movies can turn you homo.

And Swanson certainly seems to think us gays powerful, as apparently we (and straight people who aren’t horrible enough to us) causes the Colorado floods. And just in case we were wondering whether he’d actually read any bits of the Bible that talk about loving your neighbour, he also suggest gays should die at their weddings. What a gent!

You can listen to some excerpts from Swanson’s show below.

Tilda Swinton Believes Straight People Miss Out On The Positive Aspects Of Coming Out As LGBT

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tilda Swinton holds a rainbow flag in Moscow's Red Square

Tilda Swinton holds a rainbow flag in Moscow’s Red Square

Tilda Swinton has long been a big supporter of LGBT rights, including making a bit of a stir last year by posing with a rainbow flag in Moscow’s Red Square last year, shortly after Russia enacted its infamous ‘gay propaganda’ laws.

Now she’s been sharing her thoughts about what gay people get from the challenges they face, which straight people lack. She tells The Daily Beast, “To pass through the transitions that gay people have to in order to come out to themselves, to their families when they’re quite young, it’s a grow-bag, isn’t it?”

“I think that very often, heterosexual people miss out on that. There’s a feeling of development and sometimes, heterosexual people have never had to go through that self-examination and just knowing themselves, and that sense of coming out, coming to your own defense, and being your own best advocate, and going, ‘No! I’m going to stand by myself and say this is who I am and you can all fuck off.'”

“That is a wonderful transition to go through, and I suppose a lot of straight people miss out on that, and then maybe their relationship choices are potentially less examined. They could be lazier or less thoroughly thought-through.”

It’s a good point, as while the difficulties of coming out are often talked about, the fact LGBT can grower stronger because of that is more often ignored.

Love Bytes Gay Web Series Launches A Kickstarter To Fund Its First Full Season

March 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

love-bytes-web-seriesLast November we featured the first two pilot episodes of Love Bytes, which have gone on to have over a million views on Youtube. That’s certainly a good proof of concept and so now the people behind the show have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund more episodes to complete the season.

$12,000 will let them make two more eps and if they can make it to $18,000 there will be three more.

Award-winning queer film-makers and sisters, Tonnette and Victoria Stanford, are the creators behind LOVE BYTES, a fresh, funny and sexy new web series that lays bare the intoxicating world of LGBT dating. Tonnette and Victoria have been collaborating on queer-themed films for over 10 years and they are dedicated to increasing the visibility of the LGBT community on screen.

This ground-breaking new comedy centres on three housemates, Jade, Stacey and Michael. They are the Neapolitan ice cream of sexuality; young, sexy and single, they search for love and excitement in Sydney’s hetero-flexible dating scene only to find humiliation and hilarious misadventure.

‘Herpes of the Lips’, the first pilot, tackles what’s become a digital and universal dilemma: fake profile pictures. The second pilot, ‘Justin Beaver’ explores what happens when a precious family heirloom gets lost in the most intimate of places.

The first two episodes were made with assistance from Metro Screen’s Breaks program and the rest of the season is written and ready to go.

If you want to help out head over to Kickstarter, and you can also find out more at the show’s official website.
